Seeking Advice on Road Bike Build
« on: September 20, 2016, 12:40:42 PM »
Hello Everyone,
I am a newbie here and this is my first post.
I want to build a  thru-axle, carbon framed road bike with disc brakes. I'm trying to not spend more than I have to for reasonable quality. I'd like to keep the total price under $2,000 USD.
I would like to seek the help of the collective knowledge here for advice on which frame and components to buy.
The current specs I'm looking for are:
- Carbon thru-axle frame with disc brake support. 56cm or Large
- Shimano 105 or better equivalent groupset
- 'brifters'
- Hydraulic disc brakes
- 50mm carbon clincher wheelset 28h (I weigh 210lbs) with 25mm tires.
I've had trouble finding reasonably priced hubs. So far it seems Novatec D771/D772 are the only ones I've seen at a decent price that can hold an 11 speed road cassette.
Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply carbonazza.
Some good info there.
I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a carbon thru-axle frame, bars and carbon wheelset complete for $1,000 USD.
I believe I will be able to come in under my goal of $2k complete with an Ultegra groupset.
