Hardtail 29er Advice Needed

Hi Guys,

Nice forum, lots of info around. Almost too much haha.

I need some direction. I'm convinced that I'm going to get a Chinese carbon frame to build up. It's main use will be a commuter, but I'll also show it some dirt. My other bike is a Giant Trance X 29er. I'm looking for something I can build up with my spare/replaced/superseded parts.

I'm stuck between: Tideace M009, Workswell 062, IP-057 IP-M901 (this looks really nice).

Things I would like:

31.6mm seat tube (someone talk me out of it, I only really want the option of running a dropper later on).
2.3 inch tyres
Changable rear dropouts (spare wheels are 135mm, but I have some 142mm wheels which might end up on it)
Fun/Fast - not looking for a race bike, but it would be good to have a faster bike than the Trance.

What can you recommend me?

I can get a tideace off ebay for AUD$400 delivered which is the most tempting so far for my first Chiner.
Should I do it, is there something better?

Hi Tom,
I just recently bought a tideace fm-m101. My priority was for a BSA bottom bracket.
Took about two weeks to get to Australia. I haven't put it together yet, but the paint job was good, and the carbon work looks fairly neat. The headset fits perfectly too.
I actually bought it via their AliExpress store- it was a little cheaper and I could choose different colours.

Ok, good to hear. Is the M-009 only pf30?

It looks to be only PF yes.
BSA being better is a sticky legend.
PF is generally lighter, have the same longevity and are as serviceable as BSA.

Is there a max tyre size for the frames I listed?

I remember reading that one of the frames is 2.2 max.

Also the M901 has caught my eye as an option. Any comments on this frame?

I have the WW 062 and I've been very happy with it. It's currently set up as a single speed with a SID XX at 120mm. Definitely a lot more fun than I would have expected. Running Bontrager XR2 29x2.2 tires with plenty of clearance so 2.3's should be fine. Seatpost is 27.2 though. If you can live with that, I would say go for it..

The M901 is the BSA version of M-009 isn't it?
Did you ask Tideace if they provide a BSA version?

Labeling a frame S-works is misleading.
As it isn't a Specialized frame at all.
It is not a good sign to me IPLAY is doing that.

No, I havent asked, but it would seem unlikely that they would do a BSA as all their models seem to be PF30

Well, for those following I scored an Avanti Competitor Team Carbon frame and a fairly worn out DT Swiss XXM fork and xtrail cranks for $100.
Weighed it this afternoon and it was about 2.75kg with cranks, xt clip in pedals sram x9 Rd and a brake calliper.
It's a little rough, but hey, for $100 why not!

Dropper posts comes in 3 popular seat post size nowadays.

This is true, though the options for 27.2 are more limited compared to 31.6mm.

Hi everybody,

I'm searching for a carbon frame.

The most important thing is that the frame should be proven to be good quality. I have heard the CS-057 might be a good option? I'm 183cm in height and with 85cm inseam. What would be the correct size, 17,5" or 19"?

I also like a quite relaxed/upright riding position. Are there some other frames that I should consider? I have also had 27,5" frames in my mind but I really don't know does the tyre size matter for me. I mostly ride commute and we have a quite bit of snow 5 months a year here where I live.

I think I'll order the frame from Xmcarbonspeed. Would a FK019 fork be suitable? What headset do you guys recommend? Something that lasts a long time but isn't too expensive.

I have an 057 and love it! It does have a bit more of an upright ride you're requesting. I am the same size as you and ride the 19" frame. The 17.5" would be too small for you. I would stay with a 29er. With your size and winter riding. that makes the most sense to me. If you were talking about a boost frame with wide tires than a 27.5 might be a consideration but for the the riding you're talking about i would stay with the 29er.

As far as the headset goes on all of my Chiner bikes, i have three of them, i have been using the Neco headset that came with them. I have never had an issue and to this day they are as smooth as they day they were installed new! On my 057 that bike has been through a ton of water and mud and cleaning is all the maintenance it's required.
