Xmcarbonspeed CS-057 cracking
« on: December 07, 2019, 10:35:18 AM »
Well she had a good run. But I think it's time to retire this frame? The cracking around the bottom bracket is not good. Anyone else have any issues with the same frame or Xmcarbonspeed?

I did have the same issue on one of my kid's frame, CS-106 if I remember well.
And at that time, Peter did replace it, as it was under 2 years old.

While waiting for the replacement frame.
I did buy a cold chemical weld and glued everything back, the best I could.
The frame is still there in the garage, and did work without issue until the replacement.

Seeing how poorly done is that aluminum shell, I advised people who want a bike built to go with PressFit.
Yes it may creek sometimes, but in the end it is a simpler and more robust interface with carbon fibers.

Thanks for the information. Looking for Peter to respond. I have contacted him but I have had no reply back yet. Pretty disappointed because I did not plan on purchasing another frame at the moment. And I do not feel safe to continue to use this one.

I agree with Carbonazza, Pressfit is a better option then an aluminum shell. I've also had the same issue (not CarbonSpeed frame) and fixed it with epoxy. No creaking since then.

Not sure if I'd jump to the conclusion that these BSA BB shells in Chinese frames are problematic enough to steer clear of them.  Not sure how liberally you guys grease the threads and faces of the BB shell, and what kind of resultant torque is required for you to install and remove the BB, but the BB setup on my '057 has been nothing but faultless, totally quiet, easy to maintain.  Coming up to 6 years soon, probably close to 2000 rides now - bought it off Peter when he was at xmiplay.  If I needed another hard tail frame (which I guess would only be required if this one got stolen), I'd get this exact one one, with BSA BB.  Heard too many issues with noisy BBs on the press fit version - then again, that's probably just due to bad maintenance, which will cause issues with any setup.

Have you heard from Peter?  I am looking to get a couple of replaceable derailleur dropouts for my 197 fat bike frame.  I have emailed him as well as messaged him on Facebook but no response.

Hey guys, may I know what cold chemical weld or epoxy did you used?

My CS-496 just suffered the same fate. Although still a mild crack but it creaks pretty much on every climb (even those not so steep) and sprints. And it's gonna take me a while to get a replacement, so I'm looking to just extend it's service a little long.

I used Pattex Repair Express 64Gr
It is a bi-component pasta that you mix and apply.

However you need access to the inside of the frame.
I was able to get the shell out, apply the pasta to the frame and put the shell back.
