RockShox Sid wc 2018 charger damper 29
« on: August 09, 2019, 12:55:15 PM »
Hi, anyone running Sid with charger damper, does your lockout fully lock the fork out or do you get sag with weight on the bars, just had my 2017 sid wc replaced under warranty by Sramtech UK with 2018 Sid wc with Debonair, if I ride in lockout on tarmac its sagging 30 - 35% fully locked out!!! 65psi in fork (I'm only 66kg) still drops regardless of low speed compression dialled in or not... Any feed back appreciated..
Thanks
Richard

I don't have experience with that specific fork, but most new forks aren't a fully hydraulic lock.  The lock will increase compression damping, which would have little affect on sag, since damping is velocity based.

I don't have this fork but my DT Swiss OPM ODL is doing exactly that in locked mode when the oil level is low. Droping the lowers and putting fresh oil/lube solves the problem for me.

in lockout mode, once it sags (to the 30-35%), does it still move/bob after that?  if it doesn't move, that sagged position would probably be beneficial.  i.e. i am assuming you'd mainly be locking it out when climbing, so tilting the bike forward would get you in a better pedaling position, especially when it gets steeper.

i am not familiar with the lockout characteristics of modern sids.  my last sid was a 26er (maybe 2011 model).

Thanks for the replies, its a new fork out the box so I'm assuming all oil levels are correct and the charger damper is fully bleed, it doesn't sad any more than 35% climbing, my previous 2017 Sid almost locked fully with about 10% when new.

Not sure how to differentiate a 2018 and a 2017, but I have the same issue with mine.
Although if I remember well, it wasn’t sagging that much when new.

By the way, do you know any resources available on how to maintain the fork?
It is my first fork, previously I had an unmaintainable Lefty, then a maintenance-less Lauf.
It is the only part of a bike that is totally unknown to me.

My 2017 Sid locked out solid with no sag to start and then developed the problem, I'd serviced and re bleed the charger damper but it made no difference, it was only when I spoke to TF Tuned in the UK they advised to send it back for warranty as It was still under 2 years olds I gave it to my local bike shop where I had bought it from and they sent it to Sramtech UK who replaced it with a new in the box 2018 Sid world cup Debonair. If you have warranty on the fork I'd send it back. Heres a complete service guide.
I'll be speaking to Sramtech re the issue with replacement fork next week.

I have a SID RLC debonair and when I lockout the fork I have no sag at all
