- I bought a shimano BB, the OEM one looks ok, just is much heavier being in alluminium while shimano is mostly plastic; shimano bearings are sticky, OEM are loose and move easily, probably shimano is better; do I need to install the BB spacer oncrank side?

I am using a Shimano press fit BB. According to Shimano instructions when used with 92mm wide frame (which is what the frame measures) no spacer is used. However, I do have a clearance issue with a M7100 SLX crank/chainring. The 2-piece chainring bolts on the back side of the SLX ring are up against the swing arm with fraction of a mm clearance. Using the BB spacer ring would help but I would rather not go that route. I am thinking about using an aftermarket chainring without bolts. That way it won’t affect chain line.

By the way, how did you guys manage to route the lines through the rear triangle?

We had a similar discussion earlier in the thread about chain line.  If you do actually have the M7100 and not the M7120 boost specific crankset version you may have to get creative with your chainring configuration, if it is too late to return it.

Paid for August 21 received today. My new build!
Digging the orange. Looking forward to this. To all that have contributed with the challenges they’ve had and the solutions they have found thank you very much it helped tremendously getting extra parts in place to make this build go so smooth.

I finally got around to modify Santa cruz sticker and fitting them on. My shock just came in today so 1 last shipment of parts and I'll be all good to go

Do we need any disc brake adapter for this frame?  I believe it is rated for 180mm disc.  As such, is the brake adapter required?  Thank you for your confirmation advance.

hi man if you gonna be using a 180 mm rotor for your rear brake then you wont have to get an adapter

hi man if you are gonna use a 180 mm rotor for your rear brake then you wont not require an adapter.
if your question is if you need an adapter to run 4 pot brakes, you do not need an adapter. Both 4 pot brakes and 2 pot brakes share the same mounting.

I am in the same situation of slo, I bought a shimano XT 8100 crank instead of 8120, so maybe the chainline it's too inner; I found a 2,5 mm spacer for spindle, it's an option but it will probably make the QR asymmetric, even if for very small amount.
I will see later, now I'm fighting with BB; press fit really sucks, I regret I didn't order the BSA mod; I fitted the BB but something went wrong with inner tube alignment, so now I have to buy a pulling tool and remove it, and I hope I won't damage anything.
Fork update: manitou mezzer barely scratches the M size frame, so I bought the cane creek spacer: it works and it is compatible.

There are a few hollowtech, and gxp, thread together bb86/92 options available.  Wheels Mfg makes an expensive one and I believe there are various manufacturers on Amazon and Ali.  Not sure if that is what he meant.

There are adapters like this to press fit into the Bb shell and then you can screw in a BSA bb into that. But it makes the shell longer than 92mm so I'd think it be hard to find a spindle long enough .

I used the the bb the frame came with and just replaced the bearings. I really don't like the plastic shimano ones. It was easy to install with a homemade tool. Just did one side at a time .

If I remember Haideli offered a BSA version for extra money; I regret I didn't buy it.
Moreover I start to like the Haideli BB more than the shimano one: shimano ID is 23.8 mm, you have to force to spindle in, while Haideli is 24.0 mm; shimano is more protected agaisnt water but also has more drag.
At this point I think I will install Haideli and later on move to threaded together BB.

So after you took them out you confirm that original bearings are cheap?To me they are too loose and they roll too easy being new. Do you rember the size, is it a standard SKF/other manufacturer size?
OEM BB has another problem: no lip to hammer it out, you can just hit the bearing, but if the bearing will come out it will be basically impossible to remove the cup from the frame I think.
