Possible 30% Income Tax Credit For The Purchase Of An Electric Bike (U.S.)

(1/1)

Sitar_Ned:
Hasn't passed Congress yet, but if it does 30% is a pretty significant incentive to go for an ebike. It will be interesting to see the details of it and if it is limited to complete bikes or could be used for a frame puchase. The total max allowed credit is $1500 so a $5k bike would be $3500 and take maximum advantage of the credit. Pretty sweet deal.

Why not for regular bikes as well?  They are at least as "green" right?

It would be interesting if Congress passed an eBike incentive.

Why not a tax break for people who never leave the house and go outside? They aren't burning ant fossil fuels at all for travel. A sofa incentive would be nice.

I would be surprised if they did. Remember what Big Auto did to the buses? Personally, I am 70% sure that the reason all those crappy bicycles like Huffy and Schwinn are still being sold at grocery stores and Academy is because Big Auto wants people to buy a $200 bike, have them break in 10 minutes, and then give up cycling
