FM1002 shock mount
« on: August 10, 2022, 01:17:18 PM »
I am wondering what bolt and bushings I need to mount a Rock Shox Super Deluxe rear shock to the FM1002 frame.I think I am ok with the top bolt and bushings. But I don't have a way to mount the bottom connector.  And where might I purchase them. Thanks.

The bottom is trunnion, so the frame will come with bearings in the frame and the bolts, then the shock will come with threaded holes in the body.  Nothing else to purchase for the bottom mount.

If your Super Deluxe is a 205x60 Metric Trunnion, you should be all set with the supplied trunnion bolts and eyelet bolt. Though I upgraded my eyelet bolt to a 40mm BetterBolts Transition shock bolt and have been very happy with it.

Thanks a lot. I had to order a new and different shock. I was raiding another bike for a lot of the parts for this one. Hoping to use the old shack I had. But it didn't work out.

I just got a Rock Shox trunnion mount shock. But the eyelet does not match the bolt that came with the bike. What else do I need for spacers or bolts exactly to get this to work? Thanks

The shock bolt is 8x40mm, and you need bushings or needle bearings to fit 8x30.

I went with the RWC needle bearing kit since the eyelet end is the one that rotates on the FM1002 and 1001. So far it’s been great.

If you want to run bushings I’d suggest pressing out the metal ring that RS puts in their eyelets (for use with their full metal bushings) and running Fox DU polymer bushings.

If you get the RWC bearings I’d also suggest getting their installation tool — I found that my regular bushing press was too difficult to get the delicate bearings and inner metal tube into place straight enough. I messed the first set up on my initial try without the RWC tool (the needles never sat quite flat ever again) and had to buy a second kit.

Good learning experience I guess, one of a few on that build. But worth it.
