One piece Carbon Wheelset
« on: May 07, 2024, 02:53:35 AM »
Hi Guys,

I am looking for a one piece wheelset like Lightweight or the Syncros. Even Storck had on the Eurobike 2023 a one piece prototype. Loving the optics and it is something special.

Do you know any Chinese Brand, that offers such a wheelset? I asked Yuanan, the OEM of Storck Zeitjaeger, but they did not produce this wheelset.

Best regards
Robin

This company seems to be making something similar, but I haven't confirmed whether they are actually selling it.

Thanks guys, that is exactly what i am looking for.
The XYZ is quiete expensiv, and i dont find a lot of informations about the company. The Hookless Version is 1270 gramms and the hooked version 1300, so pretty good. Production Time around 4 weeks, but i didnot pull the trigger. Over 2000$ for a company i never heard of and no reviews about the Company is to risky. They offered a small discount but still to expensiv.

No answer right now from Tantan, hope their Wheelset is less expensiv but we will see;)

Lún MEGA wheels from Winspace are a hybrid between normal carbon wheels and one-piece carbon wheels. The whole side of the spokes is one piece that can be replaced if needed.
I've been using them for the past few months, and they are the stiffest wheels I've tested. They are not too comfy if you have a stiff bike and ride on bad county roads, but they feel fast. I have an in-depth review on my website if you are interested in learning more or feel free to ask here.  :)
Btw. They cost $2340 with a discount code.

I assume the only benefit of a 1 piece hub & spoke system vs hub & spokes is weight, right? But how much weight saving are we talking? It's bound to cost more, and warranty shenanigans between China & the west tends to be a mess, with shipping costing a lot & taking a long time.

Weight and stiffness, and for somebody, the aesthetics. But for me, the eventual hassle with repairs is not worth it.

I have a set of Winspace R33 23 edition wheels. The front wheel went out of alignment fairly quickly (within the first 300km). I visited my local bike shop, and they charged me £75 for the service. They had to remove the rim tape and reapply it, which is just so unnecessary.  I had to contact several bike shops, but none were willing to work on carbon spokes. In line with what Petr mentioned, dealing with this hassle isn't worth it. It's likely the same situation with one-piece carbon wheels. If I had been aware of the maintenance costs beforehand, I might have avoided these wheels altogether. Dealing with proprietary parts, expensive repairs, and unnecessary hassle is something I could do without.

Not even the weight. The nonexistent syncros wheels are the only ones that compete on weight, the others are all heavier than good carbon spoke wheels
