LTWOO RX and GRT compatiblity
« on: May 04, 2024, 04:07:53 PM »
Hi chinertowners... :)
I would like to build a hardtail MTB with suspension and drop bars...

Idea is also to have dropper post.
I would like to use RX levers in combination with GRT derailleur.
The left RX lever would be used as a dropper post actuator (with some modifications to the mechanism)

Does anybody know if the derailleur pull ratio of the GRT and RX levers is the same?

And another question, what would happen if I would use MTB style (2 or 4 piston) brakes in combination with any of those levers?
Since all the mounting points for the brakes will be post mount, I would prefer to use MTB specific brakes, to avoid unnecessary flat mount to post mount adapters.

So ideal combination would be RX levers, GRT derailleur, ZRACE x2 or x4 calipers.

What do you think, is there any chance this would fit together?

Without having them in hand I can still confidently say they would be compatible. It would make absolutely no sense for them to specifically make them different pull ratios

So I went on and purchased this combo...
GRT derailleur and RX shifters, ZRACE X2 calipers and combined it with 9-50 cassette from ZTTO.

And happy to report everything works fine from shifting to braking.

Did not ride the bike more than few hundred meters so far, will report back if I discover anything weird.

Its more of a "fun budget project aliexpress style" build...

Thrust carbon frame size M (should have probably gone for the L, but I was afraid it would end up being too long with drop bars). 250€
SRsuntour XCR34 forks (bought 3 years ago on Wiggle for 60€ :P)
Ryet 29" carbon wheels with Conti RaceKing tubeless tyres 260€+80€
Ltwoo RX shifters and GRT derailleur  160€+45€
ZRACE X2 brake calipers with SRAM 180mm + 160mm rotors 40€+15€
ZTTO 9-50 cassette 110€
Raceface crankset (leftower from a broken Canyon) + ZTTO PF30 BB xx + 15€
Xcadey power meter + 36T deckas chainring  220€+10€
450mm carbon seatpost 27.2mm 20€
Mixed 6D carbon saddle 20€
Bunch of other small parts from AE (tubless tape, handlebar tape, tubless valves, stem, spacers, chainstay guard ...)  30€
Stans tubeless sealant 15€
Old Look keo pedals (yeah road...) ??€

All in all its 10.6kg as it is... but the main problem is extremely heavy fork.
I'm thinking about replacing it with some AE rigid carbon fork.
Would probably suit the bike more. And drop the weight below 9kg.

It rides nice, could not test it much since I'm still recovering from a knee surgery... so I just took it for a slow 15km spin on flat gravel roads. Its very fast, on the tarmac it almost feels like a road bike.

Nice build! Do you think you could fit a bigger chainring?

Yes, no problem, there is space for at least 40T...
