(yet another) Gravel Bike Build
« on: May 10, 2024, 11:15:51 AM »
Seemingly like everyone else, I'm planning to build a gravel bike in the next couple of months. Currently in the process of rebuilding a commuter with some L-Twoo eR9 and parts, and then will get going.

My plan is to build something similar in capability to a Canyon Grizl...50mm+ tyre clearance (ideally MTB wheels), and (assuming I get on with the eR9) I'll probably plump for the eGR 1x12 (which I believe limits me to a 46-tooth rear). A screw-in BB (BSA or T47) is a must, due to previous experences with pressfit BB's. THis would be my first prmiarily chinese build...I've used wheels and occasional components before, but never a full build.

The LightCarbon LCG071S-D looks promising

...however I'm only used to ordering off AliExpress, and I cannot find a LightCarbon presence on there, so struggling to get an idea of cost. Do you have to contact the company directly?

I've also found this
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005678330464.html

Which looks good, but for this struggling to find any reviews or opinions.

Finally, I see a lot of notes on vouchers and discount codes...is there anywhere to find these?

That i Tan Tan framset I build recently. Just do not buy Kactus BB cause they do not fit Shimano properly.
Also ask for fork with hole for full internal build. I did not know they have one and got without it.

Lightcarbon is pretty well known and that model even has a topic on this forum. I'm ordering a road frame from them and considering adding one of those gravel frames too for a future build. The only think keeping me from ordering it already is that I don't like it much.. There are other better looking frames for my taste :)

I build both TanTan GR29 and a Wind GT20 in the past with no issues, both bikes still working fine.
Built process was painless.

Here the GR29 thread:

And here the GT20:

The Second bike you linked, the CWind GT30 is interesting especially since it is using T47 BB which is a good choice and leaves all crank options open. There might be different manufacturers / Distributors selling this frame under a different name. CWind is nice since they include all parts such as Headset and through axles, while at TanTan/Seraph make sure to order them matching to your frame separately.

I just put eGR on my Cutthroat where I'm running a 10-50 11s and an 11-50 11s (2 wheelsets one HG on XD) Garbaruk cassette. In that application, I was able to run the full cassette and it shifts well and the chain isn't slack nor overly tight. So, I'd say that much like a lot of Shimano RDs, it is capable of going past the rating. Your mileage may vary, I can't promise anything. My derailleur hanger may put it in a slightly different position to another. But I thought I'd share since there isn't a lot of info on this groupset.

You can see it here:   This was the 10-50 and a 32 in front

You can read more about what I've learned here: https://trbike.blogspot.com/2024/05/ltwoo-egr-results-writeup.html

I still only have three rides on it, but so far so good.

I've ordered all the parts, and currently waiting on arrival (everything is shipped apart from the frame). I'm planning to use an 11-46 12x cassette initially...I can then see if there is any scope for expansion once it's built-up.

I've been running eR9 on my winter bike for about a month (in summer it's used for wet riding), and it's been flawless. The only thing I've done is apply liquid electrical tape on the power cable connections into the mechs to improve water-proofing, so got a fair amount of confidence that the eGr will be fine.
