Interesting discussion regarding the use of 50+ tooth cassettes with the eGR.

Just yesterday I shuffled some wheels and installed a  one with a Shimano microspline Casette 10-51 which came with my girlfriends new gravel bike.
Since I only have HG cassettes flying around, I gave it a try and installed the wheel as is. After some readjusting of the end stops and the B-Screw the shifting works quite well and even the 51 cog works.
My egr is from March 2024 so not sure if this already has the long derailleur cage or not.

Will try some outdoor ride to confirm there is no issue using this 10-51 cassette in the coming weeks and report back.

I bought mine end of Nov. 2024 and it came with the shorter cage. I'm presuming your B-screw is all the way in?

I need to re-test my setup with adjusted gear fine tuning. I was also running a newly waxed chain, so that might have accounted for me not catching the gear adjustment prior to riding. I also have the mechanical GR9 bike to compare as a base comparison. That RD has far more leeway for bigger cassettes and can probably do a 52t cog no problem.

As far as I have been able to figure out, the longer cage made an appearance in the first months of 2025. No documentation to be found. Confirmation from LTWOO that it exists when I asked in April. Mine arrived in March. Many reports of short cage arriving since.

So unclear if it is a running change in the base eGR configuration (I question that because the web still says 46t here in June) or if it is an option that is undocumented (strange given the lack of markings/part numbers).

I think it is a running change but they made no effort to clear inventory in the channel and since they don't sell direct to consumer, aren't worried about the website. Odd though.

Search upthread for the dimensions of the two if you want to see the measurements to try to ask a seller.

I'm okay with the performance using the original stock cage. I think it works fine with at least a 36t or smaller chainring. Since the majority of my gravel is uphill dirt climbing, running a larger chainring does me no favors. Since I can run a 9/10t cog, that allows enough speed for me when on the flats (not racing). Though performance might differ if I need to run a larger chainring setup and chain, hence the need for a longer cage.

Yeah, I'm using HG so I'm limited to 11t as smallest cog, so I keep a 38t front chainring. I would be fine with a 46t or 48t max cassette, but there are no such cassettes I could find for 12sp. So, 50t is what I have and am pleased with the quality, price, and lightness of the cassettes I have, but the less-than-optimal shifting is a bit annoying at times (especially since I used to run my eGR with a smaller 10sp cassette so I know how good it can be).

Too many alloy cogs on that one, I prefer as few alloy big cogs as possible. I prefer this ZTTO HG cassette. I'm currently using the XD 9-50t  11 speed version and it's been good so far. Only problem is TACO tariff pricing sucks balls for US customers! Shop around and definitely use coupons if possible.

So must be the short cage given the date I bought the eGR set.
The B-screw is not completely maxed out yet but close, the distance between the 51T cog and the cage cog looks good and the chain clears well when shifting.
I am using an original Shimano chain that I rund with "Effetto Mariposa" fluid wax.

I think the trick here is the position of the end stop. My end stop is not 'correct', but it's in a position that allows flawless shifting to my 50t, and that's with the OG short cage.
