Wide Carbon Deep Wheelset options
« on: February 10, 2024, 12:51:25 PM »
Does anybody have any recommendations for full Carbon Wheelsets with deep (50+mm) depth and 30mm outer rim width?

The Exar Ultra DB508 would be perfect but Magene don’t ship to the UK, so it would be from Ali Express which poses potential uplift on duty.

Considering the CRW works from Panda Podium but not sure I can justify the price.

9velo also seems a good option especially as their hub design is bomb proof but outer rim width is only 28mm.

The roads are so bad around where i live I wouldn’t ride any tyres less than 30c again. Currently have some lightbicyle AR56 on dt350 hubs and the transition between tyre and rim is perfect. Just hoping to get something slightly more weight weenie!

Any options I’ve overlooked?

Definitely look at Light Bicycle Falcon AR56 or WRs. WR65s are little deeper than you want but are fabulous by every report I have read.

Amazing how you can look at a seller and completely miss what they are offering. Have Farsports Gravel Wheels and they are excellent. Looks the way to go! Thanks all

Farsport Hyper are 30mm external/24mm internal, available in wide variety of depths, can be specced with different hubs, steel or carbon spokes.

Elitewheels has a set of 45x31 DxW wheels that are decently priced. I forget the exact model but they are gravel wheels. Hard to go wrong with Light Bicycle WRs though

I've bought from Farsports for years. The last 5 wheelsets i bought i bought from Peter (whom you can find on the forum). He's got a new mould with 34mm rims at the widest point, 32 at the edge of the rim, they're AWESOME. 58mm deep.

I got these wheels from https://serenadebikes.net/
This shop is a reseller and they’re sourcing their stuff from various manufacturers.
The wheels are 31wide/55deep and 24mm internal. They’re perfect for 28mm tires which pump up to about 31-32mm. Weight is slightly over the claimed 1450g. I think it was 1470.
Hubs are DT Swiss 36T Ratchet straight pull copies just like the Goldix hubs. Pillar Wing20 steel bladed spokes.
I paid 519 USD including tax free shipping with DPD.

I put 1500km on these wheels so far and I’m very happy with them. The only issue were the bearings in the front hub. They were basically dry and ended up rusting pretty quickly due to the VERY wet weather here in Germany during winter. I had to replace the bearings. The rear hub is still fine. Overall, I’d buy again and I’ll probably buy a set of gravel or MTB wheels from this shop. Also, everything is customisable if you just ask them. They also build with carbon spokes if you want them.

I have the 50mm DT 240 hubs & Sapim CX, no regrets so far, also I was able to customize nipples and no access holes for super easy tubeless setup.

Who is this Peter? Is this from farsports?
It’s so clearly a LARP of an aero bike.
