Help a noob- bottom bracket and axle/dropout questions
« on: May 14, 2014, 06:21:02 PM »
Thanks to those that have shared their build pics and parts lists- especially carbon Dude and Sitar Ned.  They have been a big help in figuring out just what I'm getting into.

I'm planning to get an XT M785 crankset, and wanted to be sure I specify the correct BB shell.  Is the BSA the correct one to specify?

For the wheels, I'm planning to go with regular QR skewers, so I assume I need to ask for the 135 mm rear.

I'm leaning toward the IP-057- am I correct that it can be setup for the regular 135 wide QR wheels?

Yes, 73mm BSA (English) bottom bracket is what you would specify as well as standard QR135 dropouts for your IP-057.

as well as standard QR135 dropouts for your IP-057.

Wouldn't that technically make it an 056? I thought that was the only difference between the two. The 057 has 142x12mm rear axle and the 056 doesn't?

I don't think XMIplay sells the IP-056 anymore, I think you just order the IP-057 and specify either QR or 142 dropouts.

Oh.. Gotcha. Sorry to add to the confusion.

Hey Patrick, have you already purchased the wheels? Here's the wheels I got: http://www.bikewagon.com/sun-ringle-charger-expert-29er-mountain-bike-wheelset-15mm-black-red  (looks like they are almost sold out though)

Get the rear 142x12mm adapter for $20 and your in a quality wheelset with thru-axle front and rear for $300. Just thought I'd throw out some options for you. Either way, i'm sure you'll be happy.

Heck, mine may even be up for sale here pretty soon if I can't shake this urge to get some carbon hoops.

SN go for the carbon hoops if you're able.  You'll shave 500 grams of rotating weight which will be a night and day difference in your ride.

Then you're where I am.. The consensus seems to be 30mm hookless.

One more question- for those of you that got painted frames (is Carbon Dude the only one?), how did you choose the color?  Peter sent me a link that supposedly has the colors ( blog.sina.com.cn ) , but no images show up and all the text is Chinese.

I explained to Peter what I wanted and he sent me a picture that I approved.  Not too difficult.

Thanks- I'm asking for a solid color, so it's pretty simple if I can find the right one.

Probably ordered already but it helps to have a HEX# of your color. Just send them a few pics of what you want from as many angles as you can if it includes stripes or multi colors.

Metallic orange would be cool  8), if I had to choose a color.

The page Peter sent didn't work on my iPad, but on a regular PC browser it shows up fine-

I ordered an IP-057 painted in Pantone Red 185C.  It shipped yesterday, about 1.5 weeks from ordering.  Peter sent pics-
