TANTAN FM202
« on: September 04, 2023, 11:03:15 AM »
Dear all,

I bought a TANTAN FM202 to test. The Geometry looks perfect for me (not to deep)

Anyone allready any experience with this frame? TanTan told me it needed Internal t47 BB. (look like not alot of meat near the BB )

Will build it with DI2 105 + zipp 303S 30mm tyres

I am also interested in this frame - and also because the reach is a bit higher ;)

Can anyone explain (or point me to a site) how T47 measurements work?
I would like to use a SRAM setup and I asked TanTan for specifications.
Their reply was:
Quote
T47-86.5*24*24 (shimano), 24*22 or 30*30 (SRAM)

I did some research on SRAM website myself and found this: https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/compatibility-map/road/dub-choose-a-road-bottom-bracket-compatibility-map.pdf
Only a 85.5 BB is specified for threaded T47.

I am a bit lost:
T47 is the thread an defines the outer measure of the BB, right?
24*24 and 24*22 and 30*30 (does that exist for road bikes at least?) or DUB (which is 28.99mm) specifies the spindle diameter, right?

What does the 86.5 vs 85.5 specify?
And what about spindle width, is that defined for a threaded T47?
Are there more measures I need to be aware of?

take a look at this page
https://www.firstcomponents.com/t47-bottom-bracket/

if bb shell is 86.5 just take a t47 internal for dub (if sram asx crankset)

@c.etzo: I am not sure what you are saying.

I took a look at the fristcomponents page.
SRAM specifies T47-85.5 so I have a BB like this: https://www.firstcomponents.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/C47-985-85-point-5-assembly-A1.pdf
TanTan specified T47-86.5 so I would go for something like https://www.firstcomponents.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/D47-392F-86-point-5-92-FSA-assembly.pdf

There is a 1 mm difference between these BBs. Can I simply use a T47-85.5 in a wider frame shell?

This depends on the length of your spindle. If you are using a wide crankset (or rival / apex 1x) it will be fine to use the sram BB. You will need a custom pack of spacers. 2mm total on the DS and 5mm on the NDS. A regular AXS crank will not fit with this BB unless you are willing for it to be off-center. Luckily i think other brands like wheels MFG make solutions that work.

In reality always get my own spacer packs as I like to ensure that the cranks are centered to the seat tube.

86.5 or 85.5 is the width of the bb frame shell, so if tantan specify that the frame has a 86.5, i'll go for it

look at hambini guide to t47 https://www.hambini.com/engineering-guide-t47-bottom-bracket-standard/

Looking forward to see your build and ride report.
This frame ticks many boxes and with the 32mm max. tire width it would be a great allrounder.

Once more regarding the T47 BB: I think I started with a wrong assumption and would like to double-check with you...
My assumption was that the frame is 86.5 and that BB cups + BB sleeves has a fix width (86.5 or 85.5 e.g.).

But looking at the Hambini Guide (thx by the way) and a number of products and specifications, I understand that the BB sleeve is normally only fix on one cup-side and can travel (a bit) in the other cup, right?

So, we are talking about the width after installation. And if I install a SRAM BB and end up with 86.5 width, I need to correct this width by using 2 rather than 3 mm spacers on the drive side to achieve the correct chain line, correct?

same frame as???.....

Velobuild 2023 VB-R-066  https://www.velobuildmall.com/products/2023-vb-r-066-carbon-fiber-endurance-road-racing-bike-frame-disc-version

 Og-Evkin QONQI  https://ogevkinbike.com/products/qonqi-road-carbon-fiber-frame-v-brake
I think both of those are external cable while this is internal. All inspired by the Canyon Endurace. Def curious about this build, I have been looking at the VB-R-066 for a while but like the internal cabling of this one.
