Trainer frame
« on: May 23, 2025, 04:01:29 PM »
Hey everyone,

I might be overthinking this a bit, but I'm looking for some recommendations for a simple, larger frame to dedicate to smart trainer use. My current thought process is "relaxed geo," almost like a Decathlon Triban RC 500 in XL – something comfortable (for me) for long indoor sessions. Preferably, I'd like to stick with a metal frame. My plan is to source a 1x derailleur, handlebar, and bottom bracket from AliExpress to keep costs down. Crucially, I'm looking for the total cost, including shipping to Europe, to be reasonable.

Any suggestions for frames that fit the bill?

Cheers!

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I'm in your same boat and I just bought a 10 year old steel frame for $50 (was actually listed for $150) from my local classifieds. The bike came with all of the old components, mid-level 10-speed sram apex double tap with 50-34 double chainring, 10-32 cassette and crappy wheels.  My plan is to ditch the wheels and eventually switch everything out for a 1 x rim e-group (from Wheel Top or Magene).  If you are just looking for a frame, you could probably find something really cheap in the used market that you would just need to clean up.
