XM Carbon Speed - "Gran Tourismo" Frameset
« on: May 28, 2025, 11:45:10 AM »
Hi everyone,

In this other thread (https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4173.0.html) an aero frameset with high stack, low reach was requested and Peter delivered. It seems like I've got the first one so here's the facts:

Size 56
Unpainted
Parts delivered: frame, fork, seapost, mounting hardware (2 different) for saddle, UDH hanger, front mech hanger, thru axles, grommets

Weights on the pictures include mech hanger (front and rear)

Thoughts: looks extremely well made. Seapost looks a little thin for my liking, would have preferred 27,2 - but aero...

Planned components:
Wheels: Ninevelo GV45
Tires: Conti GP5000 or Vittoria Corsa, would like to go for 34 or 35s
Headset and stern: not sure, probably ritchey Switch
Handlebars: Easton EA90AX - 42
Chainset JKT 150mm
Groupset: im a bit clueless in that... Most likely R8000 but I'm lacking STIs and disc breaks
Breaks: actually thinking about mounting Magura MT7 Just for fun

It's either gonna be painted or coated with cerakote...
I've already had a friend who's a painter lined up with everything... Since I can't reach him for a week now (and I'm not in s hurry anymore due to injury)... A bit undecided...

I have some nitpicks, as always, but for what it is, this is a pretty alright design. Although I will probably always be a T47 hater

T47-68 is pointless, it does nothing better than BSA, is heavier and less aero. T47-86 moves the bearings inboard, which is better from an aero and load path standpoint, but the former is kinda meaningless for the forces a human can produce. It comes with the downside of interfering with the mounting of some power meter spiders and the spline flanges have to be tiny which worsens tool engagement. Also since the splines on it run all the way through the flange, it's easier to scratch the frame with the tool during installation. T47-77 is just the advantages and disadvantages of each on their respective sides. All still heavier than BSA.

I am also a T47 hater for these reasons as well. And no problems ever running BB86 either. Whether Shimano 24 or even DUB standard.

Folks shy away from press fit, but a proper bearing tool always gets the job done.

T47 is not supposed to use 6806 bearings instead of 6805 for BSA which is usefull for SRAM Dub.

Bigger bearings = Long lasting.

Edit : 47 instead of 57, typo error.

I think you may have had an accident while typing that sentence, but you can get a BSA BB with 6806 no problem
