Build Confessions !
« on: July 10, 2015, 03:42:04 AM »
Ok, so something has been nagging me since I posted a photo a while ago........

What could be better than installing one crown race ?

Two of course !!!!!!!

Before :

After :

Please keep the mocking and abuse to a minimum.   ;D

(In my defence the forks came new unused off a showroom bike,  the crown race was black and matched the steerer so I assumed incorrectly that it was part of the fork.  So on went another crown race to get them installed quickly !  After originally posting the before photo it bothered me that the forks didn't sit flush in the frame so in the process of swapping out the lower headset I had a small epiphany and face palm moment)

For my penance I am about to head out and go for a ride on a beautiful sunny morning.

I routed the chain through the RD incorrectly once- not on the initial build, but when I took my bike to England.  I had it running on the wrong side of the plate between the two jockey wheels.  It caused a fair bit of resistance, so I should have noticed it immediately, but actually rode a couple of times before I realized what was wrong.

^^^I did that too with my rear derailleur. I kept wondering why there was so much drag on my chain. Scratched up my new X0 derailleur.  :-\

I'm over it now. ;D ;D

When I installed my rear derailleur I left a lot of extra cable. On my first ride it got caught in the jockey wheels and destroyed the derailleur and derailleur hanger.
