I have just received my new LCFS917 frame and slowly going to built the bike. I'm calling it a "Down Country" MTB since with its 120 mm travel, rear and front, and the way i´m building it its not built to be a XC racer.
As always the frames from Light Carbon looks great. Well put together and great finish. This is the 5th bike I'm building, i have built two LFCS 911, one LCFS958 and one LCFS 947. It so fun to build bikes:-)
What I have to decide before starting is if I should paint the frame or not. The previous bikes I have not painted, just put my own stickers on. But I can imagine hos nice it would look in "RAL 6018 Yellow Green".
I will keep you posted as the project goes on.

Good to hear that lightcarbon has good quality; two questions:
in the last purchase did you notice price increase due to covid, raw material crisis?
And as you built XC, trail and enduro bikes: geometry is ok? Can you feel the difference? The enduro one is still good for pedaling uphill?
Thanks and good luck with last project!

Nice build.
Short reach, 73° STA, 67° HTA, long chainstay and small BB drop.
It looks like a marathon xc bike rather than a pure "down country" (NS Bikes Synonym, Transition Spur and so on).
-
I can't find it on their website, where did you get it from?

The LCFS911 I have built for my wife and son, so I cant really evaluate them since they are too small.
The LCFS947 is a great climber when its technical and speed is not important. I think its my first choice to really go technical places. It when its time to go down again its super stable , no drama at all.
The LCFS958 is the great all-rounder. If i think that I will need to try and keep up with biking friends on trail-riding I take the LCFS958. Its faster, it climbs well, its good on the descents but compared to the LCFS947 need a little more concentration to be safe. And when its flat it can cary good speed. If i had to choose one of the, that's really, really hard. but i think it would be the LCFS947.
The LCFS917 is far away from that and i really dont know what to do with it. But it so fun to build that I caould not stop myself when Light Carbon offered me the frame. I wantet to order a LCFS911 in my size but the delivery time was so long so they offered the 917 instead.

Stefan,
Thank you very much for clarification; it's very important to get these feedbacks. Moreover all reviews always stresses the downhill performances but they almost never describe how a bike climbs; if you aren't using lifts 80% of the time you are pedaling; my idea was to build an enduro hardtail, but then I fell in love with the new haideli am831 frame and I ordered it. Being a "new" frame the associated risks of defects are higher; still I hope it will end up in a bike where long climbing is possible. In my project the weight should be around 13 kg, so not crazy high.
the LCFS947 was one of my option, I like the geometry, maybe I found a bit weird the aesthetic of the finished bike, but this is personal taste.

The figures are close to the Specialized Epic Evo 2019 so I hope the ride will be in that category

Hi Stefan, I asked earlier with no reply so I'll try again, feel free to pm me the answer if it's not for public consumption.
Where did you get the frame, it is not listed on the LightCarbon website.
Thanks
-
I got it from Light Carbon.
The last 1.5 years I have ordered for myself:
2* LCFS911
1* LCFS958
1* LCFS947
And for my friends:
2*LCFS947
1*LCFS713
So when I wanted to order a LCFS911 for myself in size L they said that the delivery time was long but they instead offered med the LCFS917 in size L that they had in stock. I liked the way it looked and the geometry was interesting, so i ordered the LCFS917.
-
Thanks, I wonder why they aren't listing it.
Any chance you have a geo chart you could share?
-
Easily googled.

Thanks Chamomile but this thread is all that comes up when I google it.

How much is that frame?

Attached a PDF with all info I have of the frame.

Starting to look like a bike:-)

Haha, Stefan can post a build pic in nearly every thread. Hope you ordered an AM831 so we can see that build.

Thanks for the report. How do you compare this VS LCFS911?
I´ll buy it ASAP, with a Downcountry intentions. I have a Bos Dizzy 120mm, a 125mm reverb, XT 12V, and hope Tech Brakes to start with it. Need, Frame and wheels only ::) ::)

Slowly starting to put the bike together again.
What chainstay protector and downtube/bottom bracket protectors are you using? Mine came with a less protective chainstay protector and nothing on downtube.

Well, I just could not resist it, so I ordered a AM831 :-)

Had any more experience with this frame now that you can share with us?
I see that you have painted the frame self, can you talk me thru the process? Finish good, cans or spray?
I see that every frame is black matt when we order it, do we need to specify unpainted when we order it or is this "coat" something that every frame has/need anyway?
-
Hi. The frame was black matte when delivered. This was the first and last frame i painted. It costs more in paint and wears of easier then when painted at the factory. After this experiment i have order my frames painted, is woth it.
Good luck. /Stefan

I got mine built up in May of 2020. I now have 4570 miles on it. Where I live is pretty flat. It climbs well on the hills I have ridden. I've taken it off some jumps and drops up to 4 feet and it's fine so far. I have it set up with a 120mm SID ultimate (previous generation with 32mm stanchions) and a Fox Nude 165x45 off a 2017 Scott Spark with the twinloc set up.
I'm about 5'8.5". I have a wingspan of 6'0" so my fit is weird. I have a 90mm, -6 stem with 740mm bars to try and get a long enough reach. The only issue I've had so far is the lower rocker bolt sheared off the head and worked it's way out the drive side. I didn't notice until it started pushing my chain off. When Light Carbon sent me the backup I bought a full backup set of all hardware and a couple more extra derailleur hangers. They are a shape I haven't been able to find anywhere else.
-
Stefan how does it work ordering the frames to Sweden? Thinking about building a gravel bike for my self. Also from Sweden.
-
it works fine. Now you pay the shipment with all handling, VAT, taken care of by Light Carbon and you get home delivery. I think I have ordered 2-3 frames this year and I am right now busy building myself a new LCFS 947.

Mounted a 917 and weight
-
I am informed it is now called 919 with UDH and larger headtube 1 1/2in straight headtube.
Pondering whether to get this one or 918. I do like two bottle cages in the 918, but this one can officially support 130mm/120mm travel which I also prefer
Anyone tried this new 919 model yet?

There is a good thread on the 918. I have the UDH version and so far I love it. I wish it did not have the cables through the head tube as that is a pain in the butt and serves no real purpose or provides no benefit. But it is what it is. I am tempted to just make my own holes in the frame. Other than that it is great. I have built up 4 frames and all of them are running great.
-
Jeff, any lesson learn on headset cable routing? I will receive my frame (spcycle) in a few weeks and I have to route through the headset as well

I prefer to go opposite side so right side controls go in left side of headset. that worked for me but no promises there. the other thing is i tool a round file to the inside of my headset pieces where the cables go in and made sure there was nothing sharp and all the edges were nice and rounded off and smooth. this lets them slid a bit and keeps them from getting cut up.

Sorry I meant 919. I've updated my original post.

Does anybody know if i could potentially just exchange the back part (Chainstay..?) on my 917 with the 919 to have a UDH instead? After having a SRAM Transmission on my 947, i would want it as well on my 917, but i can't since it's not UDH...
-
yes, the traiangle of LCFS917 and LCFS919 is same, only LCFS919 with DUH hanger, you can use the new to instead of old LCFS917.
now LCFS919 can be booked, rear triangle with DUH hanger, in front triangle, the head tube will be staight 1 1/2", for inner cable routing,.

the 919 still isnt shown on the website, is it for sale elsewhere?

I would bet they meant the 918, their other XC frame that has been out for a while.
-
They showcased the lcfs919 add a bike show, cant find the link. I remember it sand the 919 was basically a 917 with UDH hanger.

Now that is something I'd be interested in! Aside from new AXS compatibility, I've been trying to move to bikes that all run UDHs so I can simplify what spares I need to have around for them all.

Lucky you. My 919 rear triangle shipped out the day you posted your pic. I have a 917 and the rear insert on the rear brake broke so I got the 919 rear. Just waiting for it to arrive and then when swapping the triangle I'm going to replace the bearings in the trunnion mount, near the bottom bracket, and on the seat tube.

I have to say this has been one of the major pains as well, as I am building my 919.

Finally finished my LCFS 919 "budget" build, very pleased with the outcome. Will be taking a maiden ride to my fav trails this weekend!
