You might look to book an appointment to get your glasses checked, Jeff.

That was the issue.  After my visit I noticed the linkage was different.   ;)  That tucked shock and rear triangle had me fooled.

I know people have called out the scor 4060 as a possible clone but doesn't Santa Cruz have a bike just like this too?  I think the mega tower looks identical

How are you liking the durolux?  i have the same fork and after a bit of messing around with it, i have found my happy place and it is really performing great.

the bike looks great!!

is it just me or does the reach seem super short on this frame.  i have looked at it a few times as i am looking for a DH bike and i am a big fan of lightcarbon.  the geo just seems so far off all the current DH bikes.  unless i am missing something.

29er / Re: Light Carbon LCFS713 or TanTan FM08 - Looking for Rider Feedback
« on: September 18, 2023, 09:27:46 PM »
I built a LCFS713 for my wife last year and now im planing my own, nex build.

One idea is to build a LCFS713 with a Slackerizer Angle Headset - 2 Degree and if possible, build it as a mullet. Is this a bad idé or could it be fun?

Looking at going this route for a 27.5 park /play bike.  i am curious though if there are any geometry differences from running either the 210mm or the 200mm shock.  i know the travel changes with the different strokes but the geometry must be affected by have a 10mm longer or shorter shock.  or is there a flip chip or something to account for this?  also how does it ride?  any feedback would be great.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Light Saddle and bottle cage
« on: September 16, 2023, 09:15:21 AM »
i don't have a seat recommendation but for bottle cages i have ordered these.  they are crazy light at 7-8g and they are shockingly rigid and have great holding strength.  they are easily able to handle XC to trail riding.  i would not take them to the DH park (have not actually tried) but i have been very happy with them.

I use parcelsapp.com.  Tracks most companies

The resale is kind of what prompted me thinking about this. I want to sell my current build to start my next one. It has some really nice components (some DA9000 stuff, Quarq PM), but I feel like I'm gonna have to basically price it as the sum of the components with the frameset for free to get it to move. A name brand bike of the same spec would cost more upfront but def have higher resale. So it kind of feels like a false economy unless you plan to buy and hold.

I have sold quite a few of my open mold frames.  they actually sell reasonably well in my area.  i am able to get 60-75% of the price i paid.  people are getting more curious about the value proposition that open mold frames provide.  i like to split up the frame and group set when i sell though.  i find that people either want a name brand group set for what ever they are doing or they want an open mold frame to build their own thing.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Re: Grease / Thread lock / Anti-seize
« on: September 10, 2023, 10:09:12 AM »
What will you apply to the screws instead of blue thread ?
I would recommend the purple thread locker which has more of a anti-vibration role than a thread locker.  also anti seize goes anywhere you want to remove something later and then proper torque.  there is no need for thread lock on anything if you torque them to spec.  this is assuming they are new parts and are with in spec for their application.

Carbon past on anything that is carbon to carbon or carbon to metal.  (seat post, bars, stem, expander plug)

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Re: Hydraulic shifter "blocks"
« on: September 05, 2023, 10:48:05 AM »
i have only ever seen them on new components.  i am sure bike shops may have them or could set some aside for you if you asked.  i dont generally buy from bike shops so not sure but online retailers have always shipped levers with them in there.

71
looks fine to me.  have you tried to fit the headset bearings and I assume the other pcs are of the bottom bracket?  if there are fit issues then i would reach back out to LC.  what i see there is not ideal but by no means is going to compromise the frame in any way.  i would glue the headset bearing seat just so it does not tear off.

72
they do make them in batches by size so to wait a few weeks is not out of the ordinary.  if you have emailed them once and gotten a response i would wait until next week to email them again.  I have purchased close to 10 frames from them and have always gotten what i ordered.  some time they ship next day, some times it takes a bit.

One thing to be aware of is US custom may hold it for a while.  i have had frames go through in 1-2 days but i have had them sit for 2 weeks.  tight time frames and ordering from china are not things that go well together.

this is the thread i did on my build.  definitely some room for improvement.

having done this recently, i used the Velobuild 066 frame as i wanted a more relaxed geometry.  the frame is not going to be where you save the weight. you are talking maybe 150-200 grams between the lightest open mold frames and an average one.  mine was a size L and was around 1050g.  the components are going to be where you win or loose.  winning is very expensive but there are some options.  seat post and handlebars, stem as well as cassette are where you can make up a lot of weight.

29er / Re: Lefty fork on chiner?
« on: August 31, 2023, 03:49:33 PM »
if you are asking if it will fit, then you need to look at the lefty's distance between top and bottom clamp.  as long as that is larger than your head tube then the fork will fit.    the forks are great and very supple so if you have a line on a good deal for a lefty i would recommend taking it.
