After The Ride / Swapping hubs on a mid-depth road carbon wheelset
« on: October 01, 2022, 10:04:42 PM »
Hi all,

I have 2 carbon disc road wheelsets, one running DT350s and the other 370s (thru axle, centrelock) I would like to swap the hubs over. One wheelset is running DT Swiss spokes and alloy nipples, the other is on Pillar 1420 and Sapim Polyax alloy.

I know you can swap the internals, but for certain extraneous reasons I can't do that. To the best of my knowledge the hub shells are exactly the same dimensions so I think it should be a straight swap, and there won't be a need to change spokes.

I have access to a truing stand and nipple wrench, but not a spoke tension gauge at this point.

Would you guys have any advice on best practices to pull this off? Wouldn't want to ruin either wheelset.

Thank you all!

Hey there everyone, I recently picked up a pair of hooked carbon wheels with an 18mm internal/25mm external width rim. I've been trying to set them up tubeless with 28mm Continental GP5000 TLs but for the life of me they will not seal, and keep leaking air from the tyre around the valve area.

Lightcarbon have told me these rims are tubeless ready but the LBS is suggesting that this is not the case. They believe that due to the narrow internal diameter, when the tyre is inflated, it is lifting the valve out of place, causing the leak. Has anyone had this issue before? If so can you comment on how to fix this? I am going crazy trying to fix this, any help is appreciated! Thank you very much!!

Component Deals & Selection / Chinese carbon MTB cranks
« on: February 19, 2022, 03:48:45 AM »
Hey there,

Just wondering if anyone has experience/recommendations for a good pair of Chinese carbon MTB cranks, meant to be used for an XC bike. SRAM direct mount, boost spacing, 1by setup. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I would like to run Magura MTB calipers (MT2s) on my next gravel bike, but I'd need some adapter to mount this post mount caliper onto a flat mount frame. I plan to run 160mm rotors. I know it's possible, having seen Chris Froome run them on his race bike for the TdF haha! I just can't figure out which adapter to get..

For the life of me I can't seem to get a clear answer from our favourite store Aliexpress :o would anyone be willing to give some advice on this? Thanks everyone :)

PS I know Magura sell the adapters, but I struggle to believe something OEM wouldn't work here; maybe I can save some $$ for nicer bar tape haha!

Hi all,

I'm considering a Twitter R7 for my next bike build, chiefly because of how cheap it is, and because it uses a round seatpost. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this brand before, or if it's one to avoid. Twitter bikes are fairly common where I live, though I've never tried one before. I'm looking for a bike that can double as a road and gravel bike, and is on the faster, snappier side of things. If I were really rich I'd get a Ridley Kanzo Fast, but that's out of the price range for now.

To me the geometry looks a bit funky (72.5 HTA paired with 420mm stays sounds more like a crit racer) but I'm curious what the geometry wizards here think. Thanks all!

After The Ride / 11.11 deals from the big boys
« on: November 03, 2021, 08:56:41 AM »
Hey everyone, just curious if anyone knows whether the 'big boys' - the likes of Carbonda, LightCarbon, Haideli, etc. do have 11.11 sales? It seems like their websites aren't often updated with any information on this.

I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on some stuff from Carbonda, and was wondering if 11.11 would be a good time to do so, or if there's no need to rush. Would appreciate anyone's expertise on this.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I chanced upon the Vitus Energie bike and very much like it as a one-bike solution for both road and occasional gravel use. Does anyone know which frame this is? Attached are a photo and link. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of building an XC wheelset that (I hope) I can ride competitively on. I'm currently at around 1.4kg for a wheelset:

- Lightcarbon AD930GP XC rims
- DT Swiss 350S Hubs
- Sapim Race spokes
- Sapim Polyax brass nipples

I'd like to drop more weight, hopefully into the low 1300g-ish category, without increasing the budget too much. One area I've identified is that the Sapim race spokes seem to be a bit heavy, at around 6g a spoke. Primarily I'm looking for recommendations in this area.

I think another area where it's possible to drop some weight are the nipples. I chose brass nipples for longevity; I ride in the rain, and frequently put my bike exposed on a boat (across the sea) to get to a nearby island to ride. Currently looking at Sapim Polyax brass for corrosion resistance, but I've heard about some alloy nipples with superior corrosion resistance. Would be happy to hear your recommendations too :)

(I'm 70kg without gear, and sometimes ride my XC bike a bit bluntly, going up and down curbs and stairs and that sorta thing. Where I ride is pretty technical. )

Thanks everyone!

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Twitter R7?
« on: May 12, 2021, 11:35:53 PM »
Hey everyone,

Chanced upon this frame, the Twitter R7: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001518961776.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.249031c3KJJPD5&algo_pvid=dc875121-b74f-40fd-aa58-f3d440d26dd1&algo_expid=dc875121-b74f-40fd-aa58-f3d440d26dd1-0&btsid=0b0a555b16208802958915444eb7b0&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

Seems like a pretty good price, though without many reviews. However, some of the reviews from other sellers seem quite unhappy. Seems like it could be a hit or miss. Anyone have experience with this frame before? Thanks!
