Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: TPU vs Latex innertube
« on: March 16, 2024, 07:46:08 PM »
From Bicycle Rolling Resistance:

"Using latex inner tubes in tubeless tires is nearly as fast as setting them up tubeless. The most significant performance penalties are the higher weight of the inner tube and the loss of the re-sealing in case of a puncture that tubeless sealant in tubeless tires offers."

Sidenote: I ordered an electronic pump from Cycplus' latest update of pumps: E-Pump AS2 Pro. Offers up to 5 inflations at 80 PSI, and weighs less than two Co2 cartridges and inflator combined. To me this is the final nail in the coffin to running tubeless for road.

Interesting but it's huge will see if they are able to slim it down in future iterations.

Have you actually tested it?
It looks very fragile and I can’t imagine it would offer a lot of protection

Similar to a bike box which is tried and true.

I personally use an Evoc bag but you do need to travel more then a few times with it to have a good return on investment.

Thank you for sharing your build!

It looks really nice I like the paintjob.

Let us know how you find 12 spd mechanical!

Great post Pat!

I think the rougher economic times on top of the world situation have led to a lot of people putting cycling aside.

I would be interested in your personal top 10 of frames if you wouldn't mind sharing something like that and include your mainstream brand frames too!

That is a different frame isnt it?

But the Winspace story does give some credibility to the notion that racing does raise the profile of these frames.

It is a different frame.

Also, I don't think the Winspace is the first UCI open mold frame either.

But great to see these getting more exposure.

They have good customer service from personal experience it's not perfect but they should work with you.

Glad you didn't take a tumble.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Which stems are good?
« on: December 22, 2023, 04:41:50 PM »
If you are getting a Kalloy Uno stem, you specifically want the Uno 7 or Uno Ultralight models made of 7050al. This is a seller I have bought from, though there are cheaper ones currently:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255799842115476.html

If you are willing to buy from Taobao, another seller I have been happy with:
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.0.0.48832e8dttqFo7&id=610916266157&_u=n20gcba5ceca9e

And if you are looking for a stem computer mount, these are really high quality. They are bolt spacing specific so you want the Type A (24mm) version:
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.0.0.48832e8dttqFo7&id=610261725473&_u=n20gcba5cec352

Nearly all the Uno Ultralight stem are 7 and 17 degrees. A 10 degree version exists, but is much harder to find for sale on Aliexpress.

Did you buy the taobao mount via Superbuy or some shopping service I wonder how much they would charge for the delivery.

This

Highly suggest you to stop riding carbon-made frames and forks then.

Here is the thread for the frame - https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3597.135.html

TLDR it's a light/stiff/ racing frame and to me it's fairly good downhill/cornering.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Speeder, Tantan or Ican

I'm guessing you're feeling a lack of compliance leading to a lack of confidence going downhill.

This is mostly down to tires and rims--excessively high tire pressure is the single largest factor in poor rear-end compliance.

You can reduce tire pressure while keeping rolling-resistance low by adopting wider tires, wider rims, higher-quality tires, and replacing butyl tubes with TPU, latex, or tubeless tires. The frame is mostly secondary to tire-setup, after all, the pros are riding Roubaix on aero-bikes these days.

What rear tire are you using? What width? What rim width are you using?

For example, I weigh 80kg, I am using 28mm Continental GP5000 with Ridenow TPU tubes inside, mounted to ICAN Aero 35 wheels, which have a 19mm internal rim-width. I run about 80-85PSI for races with high demands on cornering.

If you are really committed to buying another frame, I believe ICAN has the most solid reputation for quality, but their frames are somewhat heavy. And there's no guarantee it will be more compliant than your Winspace.

I can pretty much guarantee it won't.

I ride a Speeder RC-48D and it's just as stiff as my Allez Sprint 2019 Disc IE almost zero compliance.

It's a fast bike but not one I would chalk up as comfortable by any means.

With all the issues the eRX groupset is having, if you’re in the market for a cheap electronic group, The Pro’s Closet is selling Shimano Di2 at ridiculous prices. You can use their $40 off coupon for every $200 and build a full 105 Di2 for like $500 right now. Shifters are $100 each, brakes for $28, RD is $100, FD is $55, battery for $66.

Thanks Eddy! I also pulled the trigger no batteries left but will source that locally.

Speeder cycling will fit the job very stiff frame I have their climbing disc frame and it's not a noodle even for sprinting.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Hygge Aero Carbon Frame
« on: October 24, 2023, 04:37:26 PM »
This is probably anecdotal but...

The best quality affordable Chinese frames I've tested (stiffness, fit and finish, tolerances) have come frame companies/factories who do NOT offer up custom paint jobs and decals. Basically the OEM factories.

However, brands/agents who offer up all these crazy paint options and put a priority on aesthetics are probably hiding something in the QC department. Just spend 5 minutes the IG accounts from TanTan, Hygge, and even Elves.

I would rather a factory tell me they don't offer paint jobs because their focus is on the production and QC of their frames and components themselves.

Naked Carbon weave is the best finish anyways :D

You have hit on my main problem in buying these frames.

Some time ago I bought a Spanish brand of frame (CBK) I think manufactured in ICAN. After some time I improved my performance and noticed how in short and strong intervals it gave a flexing sensation.
I switched to Merida Scultura and buaf, new world, much more stiffness and I can't put fork and chainstays together with my hands.
Currently, I have a max power of 1300W, and I want to look for a frame with disc brakes and internal cabling, but at less than 700usd, I doubt the stiffness.

I like Elves, Hygge....

Check for the Speeder frames if you want something stiff I have their R48D and it's just as stiff or more then my allez sprint disc.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Speeder wheels
« on: October 12, 2023, 09:57:36 AM »
Thanks to this thread I saw speeder for the first time. They have really nice products, not only the wheels. I really like the handlebars they offer and the seapost is genius as they have this little knob to adjust the saddle angle which is great for saddles without cutout. nice

The reason why I purchased the wheels from them is that I got the RC48D frame new but second hand from a forum member and they weren't willing to sell/ship me spare derailleur hangers and headset.

However I am happy with the wheels and have zero regret on my purchase I'll add a pic to this thread later.
