Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: TPU vs Latex innertube
« on: March 17, 2024, 10:01:22 AM »
I'm still torn. Latex is def cheaper and easier to install but for me they never held air for more than a day. I think they'd lose pressure on a long (for me) ride. I'm gonna try tubeless and see what happens

I believe RideNow TPU tubes are cheaper than any latex tube on the market. And doesn't lose pressure nearly as easily either.

I don't think latex tube would lose enough air to worry about, unless you ride for 8 hours non-stop, but I've had plenty of times when I had to inflate tubes twice in one day - in the morning to get to the work and in the evening to take a ride after work.

They are good against flats, but they're terrible for riding - heavy, slow and a massive pain to put on. Pirelli Cinturato Velo, GP5000 All Season are better choices.

Finally build finish my bike after 4 months. Just completed 60KM on it. Smooth ride just having a bit of play at the headset while braking.

Sub 7kg with Di2 ulterga R8170, Magene PES 505 power meter, Superteam 50/60 wheelset, Ryet 3D Carbon saddle and Onirii SPD SL pedal.
What an absolute unit of the bike. Did you paint the handlebar yourself?

I have ICAN Aero 50 and Elite SLT (not edge). The Elitewheels is a proven, well loved brand and Edge is a fantastic wheelset by all means if you read reviews. However between SLT and Aero 50, the Aero is simply better in the way it rolls and sound it makes. The SLT hubs are incredibly loud. And I guess Edge also has those loud hubs. Aero's are almost silent comparatively and I love it for that reason. They have also stayed true for the longest time compared to any other wheelset I have had.

Very light, accelerate reasonably well and keep up the speed exceedingly well. Don't think you will unhappy with either. From my experience, in future if I am to choose between ICAN and Elite I think I will go with ICAN.

SLT wheelset has pawl hub, Edge has ratchet hub.

P.S. Sound is subjective, for me the louder the hub, the better. Serves as a bell for unaware people and an alarm clock for the neighbours   8)

how much have you guys actually paid for ER9? I'm seeing 475 which imo is still not that good of a deal

Around 450€ with tax (thanks to the declared value of 70€  ;D ), also paid roughly 160€ for crankset, 70-ish for Ultegra 11 speed cassette and also bought Sram rotors.

It might look expensive compared to 105 Di2, but 105 groupset costs 1000€ + I'd have to sell stock crank and buy new one (because Shimano doesn't pair 165mm crank arms with their groupsets), replace rotors with Sram or Hope (don't trust Shimano Shite tech rotors), running costs of 12 speed group are higher too

Unless the bike is dedicated aero bike, square-ish down tube is fine. Cannondale SuperSix Evo 4 has square downtube as well, yet with Cannondale's own 50mm wheels and 2 piece handlebar it is on par or better with quite a few dedicated aero bikes.

22
Noice.

It seems like it's an all-around bike like Canyon's Endurance, just bit more aggressive geometry stack-wise. Size 54 has less stack than something like SuperSix Evo 4 or BMC Teammachine.

The JH-10 looks absolutely sick, and advertised 950g is incredibly light for a frameset, and like others have said, it looks fast in all the right places--deep tubes, fairly narrow headset clean lines, shields the water bottles.

BUT as Patty and others have pointed out, the geometry is not great. 72.3 degree seat tube but no zero-setback option for the seat post? Not great. Narrowest bar is 380mm with a max stem length of 90mm? Not great. The 582mm stack for a 56 is wild to me--my Seka which is supposedly "endurance" geometry has a 571mm stack. I support it--it supports very new school "tall and long" bike fits that I like. But damn it's tall bike.

Seka Exceed isn't endurance geometry, it's just not a stupid long and low geometry, which suits only a small minority of riders. Also, sizes have always been inconsistent across different brands, there's no universal size M or size 54, that's why you should always go by geometry chart rather than listed frame size.

Size 52 JH-10 has 540mm stack, 385mm reach and 550mm top tube, which is quite in line with other aero bikes in most common size (M/54).

I.e. size M 2023 Giant Propel - 388mm reach, 545mm stack, 550mm effective top tube, 73° seat angle

Size 54 Trek Madone gen 7 - 386mm reach, 541mm stack, 543mm effective top tube, 73.7° seat angle.

Size 54 Teammachine R - 387mm reach, 548mm stack, 552mm effective top tube, 73.5° seat angle.

Size 54 Scott Foil RC - 389mm reach, 548mm stack, 550mm effevtive top tube, 73.6° seat angle.

Hey guys. I’m curious what is your view on expanders/compression plugs. Yishun provided one(see picture), but I’m unsure if it’s any good or enough, if I want to use spacers. What would you suggest?

Doesn't matter if you want to use spacers, they do not add pressure to the steerer tube, so they don't have to be countered by expander. Expander is used to prevent the stem from crushing the steerer tube. Unless you plan to put expanders above the stem of course, but I don't think it serves any real purpose

If you have a chance to get a brand new roval alpinist cl ii at the price of elite edge wheelset? Will u go with alpinist or still go with elite edge?

I'd still go with Edge. If there were widespread issues  with the wheels, they'd be documented by now and any brand can have QC slip ups

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: 2024 F14 T1100
« on: February 22, 2024, 05:49:42 AM »
RE: T1100 - technically, they can use 5 grams of T1100 fibers  at the bottom bracket area and still claim that the frame uses T1100 carbon, because it's true. It's just a marketing figure of speech

27
Regarding Seka vs Elilee - just get whichever frame looks better to you and fits you better.
IMO, companyade aero tests are just marketing, same as UCI stickers. Elilee say that their frame is just slightly worse than Tarmac SL7, but which Tarmac SL7 did they compare to? Sworks with deep carbon wheel and aero bars or the cheapest SL7 eith regular handlebar and cheap alloy wheels? Difference in parts selection can be madsive (i.e. Specialized's own SL7 marketing where they claimed massive improvements, but forgot to mention that it was SL7 with carbon wheels vs SL6 with alloy wheels).

To me, Seka Exceed looks infinitely better and geometry of Exceed is slightly better IMO.

Although both frames aren't that great of value when Cervelo Soloist exists

Farsport Hyper are 30mm external/24mm internal, available in wide variety of depths, can be specced with different hubs, steel or carbon spokes.

So I finally got the matching bleeding kit and got around to bleeding the brakes. Rear brake went completely smooth - was done in 5 minutes or so.

Front brake however - it seems like the brifter is leaking air somewhere, when I pull on a brake lever, there's a sloshing noise, similar to sound you get when you are pushing in a water bottle. The sound is coming from the top of brifter, both the oil and air screws are fully tightened. Any ideas what could be the issue? Don't have a video at the moment, apologies.

It is definitely heavily insipered by the madone, though worse in pretty much every aspect, that seatstay-top tube joind demolishes any aero performence it could have had

I'd say it is a mix of previous gen Trek Madone and Look 795 Blade RS. I do wonder how well Look twsted in aero tunnel, considering it has more or less the same rear end

Edit: seems to be 217w for older Look Blade 795. That's not very good
