Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: My TanTan TT912 build
« on: May 09, 2024, 10:03:52 AM »
after gettin frustrated by occasional road debris stapler n nail punctures esp on my rear gp5k 28mm, decided to slap on punture resistant clincher GP4season 32mm.
it seemed to fit, altho kinda sketchy on the non-drive side chainstay with 2mm clearance, while drive side have like 3mm clearance (may improve as tire thread wears out i guess). wheel arch has plenty clearance.
*Rim has 22.5mm internal width
tubeless tire just still silly expensive.
pumped the rear to 60psi, super comfort

(kinda off topic) i was searching for something n stumbled upon this rear seatpost storage box for cheap (tho not in-triangle storage)
if your seatpost about the same as that Java bikes, this might work for you

imo:
- carbon flat top handlebars arent meant to be clamped as it probably arent reinforced to handle squeeze force. but with flat-wide profile, user may get away without clamping with high torque as the clipon wont roll fwd or backward
- the left n right clamps might be too far apart. workaround: the left n right clamp may need to be swapped so the arm cup are inboard. I n S bars a no go, J-bar need to angle inward so hand grips are closer together.
- cant adjust tilt, thus high angle J-bar preferred

just to update, i ended up ordering the xxf case.
the eva side walls are padded over plastic or something(seemed moulded).
the structure seemed a harder material that holds it shape.
i just hope it doesnt crack on impact.

my 1st race will be cross border thru bus, so not much an issue. its travel via plane n getting manhandled by groundstaff is the worrisome part

my thin spacers arrived on Friday.
the original 2x 0.3mm wasnt enough, so i tried 1mm. it seemed to do the trick. i also solved my bta cage rubbing the arm cup by using 7mm washers to raise the bottle cage. Also changed the saddle again, this time using shortnose Racework(bontrager aeolus). Nose shorter n lil wider than the Giant Approach.

today for the 1st time this year i went to the coastal road(theres 8km stretch) to test the speed.
the bike is so stiff, but crazy fast. i could ave 39kmh solo 16km loop without hitting max hr. my cycling fitness is subpar coming after fasting month, but i beat my TCR pb by a whole minute.

with this my bike is funtionally complete n ready for race. yey

just to share, i managed to get my SS RD to work with 11-34 casette by having that chain long. its for just in case i need climbing gear on some race course. for now im mostly on 15-17cog on 11-28

currently is still having issues with headset. i believe the 2pieces micro spacers were not enough. after few rides the headset rocking again. temp solution is using my 5mm spacer till my ordered 1mm n 2mm arrives.

also turned out my Racework saddle(aeolus copy) gave best comfort. but having issue the clamp always getting loose(happens with other saddles too). am waiting for loctite blue to arrive

Hey ejump0,

Hope you're fine and still rocking that blue rocket! Thanks for all the detailed pictures in this thread, I'm considering building a Chinese tt as well and I'm looking into this frame aswell as the velobuild tt023. Could you maybe share some pictures of the storage compartment by the seatube? How large is it?

Honestly speaking, I prefer the look of the velobuild frame, but it does not come with any storage whatsoever. What other frames did you consider before going for the tt912?

Cheers!
Hi matt
the storage at the seatpost is kinda narrow. attached are references using kmc chain box. its that narrow. you can fit tpu tube n hex-keys, but not quite some-bulky multitool or e-pump. not sure co2 cartrige fits as i dont use em. if you have short-skinny handpump, maybe might fit at where they design di2 batt would go(top tube, under bento box

back then i considered these frames:
- hongfu/dengfu
- avenger tm6
- velobuild
- winow/bxt tri frame
- tt912/915

i ended with 912 as it looked the most modern, with fat forks. and this frame design also used by Yeoleo T9/T9s, so kinda larger userbase.
tantan just released tt913, check that out.

nice to see some more options for disc come to market in recent months. anyone know why there's such a sudden uptick?

well, tantan tt912/tt915 has been in market for few yrs already, n its tri frame line probably need updates.
though whats upsets me a lil was that the rep never mentioned this frame to become available when i was acquiring/ordering my tt912  :'(

/the tt913 also looks like p3/p-series but with bigger flare at toptube/downtube junction

So yesterday i just saw the TT913 posting. I never seen this one before.
It looks like prev gen Plasma5 front end and Plasma6/new foil rear end. it looks different than tt001 and tt912

Component Deals & Selection / Re: MTB hip pack?
« on: April 07, 2024, 02:41:26 AM »
i dont know whats the difference of mtb packs vs other outdoor packs, but for trail runners theres Aonijie brand storage products thats fairly good for its price at fraction of Salomon's stuff .
they have few waist pack solutions on aliEx

in my opinion, most force in aerobars are on fore-aft from pull n push on the bars for control. thus the bolt clamp.
however theres still need for sideway support, thus its recommended to fill that gap with some metal shim, at least on the top part of the 'n'. unless you install some kind of crossbar plate that connects both the armrest/aerobar

As a long-time sufferer of numbnutz, compared to my Spesh power saddle that is my reference, both are supremely comfortable for nose sitting, but will not make you impervious to numbness. I think for that you need something like a Dash saddle.
.

hey man.
thanks for your Sitero insights, and bringing up Dash saddle.

i've been trying to search that dash saddle via google img search after seeing it on pro tri bikes for the life of me with no result. super minimalist n looks padded just at right spot for aggressive positioning.

guess theres no identical chiner version of it. im also still trying to search selle Watt alternative.
i wish i could try carbon base+rail saddles(does carbon base with steel rail 7x7 exist?), but my saddle clamp wont work with 7x9  :-\

*edit: just found out if i can find matching side clamp part for 7x9 on aliEx, i can convert my saddle clamp

I researched this extensively 2-3 years ago and couldn't really find anything.

The speedmax has screws, as do some tri bikes like the P3 so your best bet is just a small tool roll with straps to secure it like the dakine hot laps gripper, or using any bottle cage extender but it never looks pretty. Something neat like the specialized SWAT has to be made custom for a frame that has mounts for it. It's a shame gravel frames don't come with more mounts and their proprietary bags to seamlessly attach to, I'd pay extra for that

yup.
i'm surprised why this kind of simple rubberized 'box' storage isnt an in-demand item for any chinese company to mass produce. simple to store some tool kit or easy access larger nutrition carry-on stuffs.
In fact why doesnt canyon sell it in their parts store section?
Theres few hard case solutions, but theyre north usd100.

to retro fit on generic frame, i was just thinking to use long perforated plate and mount to 2 bosses on seat tube n downtube. the plate itself may provide some rigidity to the bottom part of the box

13
Sup guys,
anyone know where i can find this kind of rubberized storage box ala Speedmax cf7 ?
i dont need those hard shell 3d printed ones that goes so expensive

/yes, im aware i can just cut the aero elite chrono bottle knockoff, but i like to see other options

yesterday the headset felt a lil loose(probably the bearings now has seated properly in the cups).
opened the stem cover n found my rear brake housing has been rubbing the notch. i did the housing a lil extra long anticipating easy stem disassembly to put into bag(the fork can be fully removed from head tube for easy bottom headset bearing access). put a bit of film protector tape hope it will mitigate the rubs

Any chance you can post a photo of the rear of the seatpost / saddle clamp? Curious to see if it's 10mm rail accessory compatible.

will these do?

Component Deals & Selection / Looking for Tri/Short nose saddles
« on: March 29, 2024, 11:36:10 PM »
So i recently just built a tri bike.
However as i can now slam forward my saddle to be above bb, my ism pl1.1 copy that i have been using on my TCR no longer work. the 5.5cm width now just felt too wide.

What i currently have:
- Ism PL1.1 copy: too wide 5.5cm nose, soft plastic base that sags.
- ori Giant Approach from my tcr: 3.5cm narrow 270mm long, and long nose hurts ma crotch on longer ride when holding into aggressive posi. this is what i currently use as it doesnt sag as i sit further back, felt best vs others i have.
- Pro Stealth copy, 4.5cm plastic base. nose is ok-ish, but base is soft n sags
- Racework Bontrager aeolus copy. similar as Pro stealth, even more soft n sag

Im looking for AliEx special that have hard base thas still ok for lil to no flex but no sag on longer use, long rails, short nose width 4-4.6cm tip, and widest wing part lesser than 145mm. lightweight not necessity, but bonus. not too high stack ie the rail is tall.
padding, anything thats not slippery n not too grippy destroying shorts should be fine.

I did took a look at 3d saddle thread, n it seems the 3d mesh has potential destroying shorts.

Still scouring aliEx. found these:
- Spesh Sitero copy, not sure nose width. Original sitero review however kinda 50-50. not sure about copy
https://a.aliexpress.com/_oC6GzPI
- Ztto slight modified of Sitero? 4.8cm nose :
https://a.aliexpress.com/_oDnqJi4
- same shape as ztto, carbon no padding. no nose width info. butt destroyer? :
https://a.aliexpress.com/_omY7DYo
- belugoe. i dont know this is referenced of what saddle. unknown nose width :
https://a.aliexpress.com/_oCUKrZi
- ec90 fizik copy. straight noseless :
https://a.aliexpress.com/_oFXmedQ

is there selle italia watt copy?
