Re: 29er hardtail Welcome. I've been around for about a week and the basic strategy seems to be to find a popular/common model and buy the same one. If you read the forums a bit you can also get a sense of which suppliers are currently doing a good job by delivering high quality frames and customer service. Seems like Carbonda is hot right now. There used to be a good contact on here that people would use ('Peter') with predictable results but that currently doesn't exist.

I'm looking for the same thing as you and i've narrowed my search to:

http://www.carbonda.com/mountain/mtb/97.html or another one of their HT's or something from ICAN. Let me know what you figure out.

Re: 29er hardtail Here is an FM386 size XL from Carbonda I've built recently.

The bar is from Carbonda
The seatpost is an Elita One from Aliexpress
XT BR-M8100/BR-M8120 brakes
SRAM AXS
SID Ultimate 2020 100mm
LightBicycle wheels

Same good quality as usual, frame and paint.
No issue to report and the user is very happy  :)

Re: 29er hardtail $350 for the frame but $660 in the end, with axle, bar, headset, shipping.
And $90 for the paintIng.

$1010 for the wheelset: RM29C19 rims with i9 hubs(they were on sale), and SAPIM cx-ray spokes.

Re: Zrace RX - Does it play well with Shimano derailleurs? Agreed, I'm so ready to pull the trigger, but luckily they are currently out of stock for 50/36 chainsets, giving me some time to try to get some feedback on the Zrace.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168
I'm going to buy this frame. Chris answers within minutes and is very responsive! I guess it's available now, because he didn't mention they are still working on it... I will update when I receive it. (it's going to take a while because I will get it custom painted)

Hi, Last year I got the rim brake version, VB-R-068 and up to now I have done over 3000Km, a few weeks ago it developed a creak in the headset, after trying a few things I removed and checked the fork and there was a crack in the steerer tube. I have made a repair using high modulus carbon fiber and epoxy resin and it has solved the problem. I have just emailed Chris to ask about if anyone else has had an issue...and of course warranty claim for a new fork. So, just have a close look at the steerer tube near the bottom on the tapered part, it looks like a split line mark from the mold but this was a little more than a line.

Cheers
Glen
