Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
« on: August 25, 2021, 07:41:28 AM »
Hi guys,

I've got my frame a couple of months now and I think it's amazing! The only downside I have is that I don't have a lot of control on cobblestones. On normal roads it's absolutely amazing! Maybe the cobblestone problem is because of my low weight (58kg) and the stiff frame. When I ride with my trek emonda I don't have this problem... So I'm not sure why I have the problem with this bike. Maybe anyone has some tips for this?

Hey Zoc,

I also have a few questions and see you already have a VB-R-168 if you wouldn't mind helping  :)

Does the seat post come with a rubber cover that sits over the post and frame to stop any dirt/liquid seeping in to the seat tube?

Do you know what the offset is on the seat post that is supplied or if they have the option of a 0mm offset seat post? Also on the seat post, does it come with fixings for standard 7mm x 7mm saddle rails and 7mm x 9mm oval saddle rails?

Like Tiny_pina I'm also planning on building this frame with mechanical disc brakes (105 shifters with TRP HY/RD callipers - I already use these on my current bike and will just be moving all parts over to the new frame). Can you definitely not use the internal cable routing with mechanical discs through the forks? I wonder if Velobuild would be able to increase the diameter of the hole to accommodate a larger outer cable?

HI,
There is no cover for the seatpost, so dirt can come in there. (I only ride mine in dry weather, so for me it's not a problem).
For the offset you can look at the sl7 geometry, it's identical to the velobuild one.
I use semi hydraulic discs and the hose fits perfectly, I had really no problem to fit it.

I used the sensah 12sp shifters. Those are also working great (shifting is perfect on al gears except 1, but I guess that problem will be gone after I reinstall the cassette) ! I will post a review of my build later this week ont the vbr 168-thread

Hi!

I finally got my bike ready. I mounted these brakes and they actually work very well, only about 15min of work to place them and get them to work perfect! I wouldn't say they work as well as my full hydraulic set up but they come very close (I guess around 90% of the braking power)! I used Shimano disc rotors and pads and fully internal cables (jagwire compressionles housing). The brakes are very responsive and they work very well. Especially for the price!

I was kind of worried because of the bad reviews they are getting lately but as long as you set them up right they are brilliant!

Hi, it will take a couple of days. (in my case it was 4days) but when dpd picked it up it was at my home the day after that! It arrived yesterday and looks awesome!

Hi,

I went with 2 colors and decals for the price of 3 colors. Normally the decals cost you 30 USD. Plus the price of your colors. So it still is very cheap.

Hi, also ordered 2/2 and got an email yesterday that they will send between wednesday and 22/4. Hope it's true! I really want to build up the bike and ride it!

That is an event in itself. Getting components right now is a pain.
Where did you get them from ?

HI carbonazza, I see you're from Belgium. They still have some groupsets at futurumshop. But they don't have Shimano anymore...

I confirmed my order (custom painting) 3 Feb, estimated shipping date was 15 March. He said they still needed to build the frame smso that means they don't have frames laying around.

Little north of GENT - > Belgium

I think the only thing to worry about is the Zrace crankset. But if it was crap sigeyi wouldn't want to co-operate with them because it wouldn't be good for their reputation

Hi,

I think we are literally building almost the same bike!

I also ordered 1 with custom painting! They would start with painting asap after the holidays (so I think next week). I will also keep you updated!

Would you recommend a supplier of sintered pads.
Do the Zrace brakes work for 140mm and 160mm.

I will use shimano 105 rotors and pads, you can order the brakes with the converter to get them to work with 160 rotors. (that's what I will do) I ordered via "discount bike store" without the rotors but with the converters.

As mentioned in the other post, I ordered mine. I guess it will probably take a month or so to arrive to me. (Chinese holidays + 3-4 weeks shipping) I will keep you updated when they arrive.
