29er / 140mm fork on an 036?

I've just been able to get my 036 out on the trails this year with a shorter stem and it's improved the ride vastly. I'm wondering if I threw a 140mm fork on if it would slacken up the head tube angle and make the ride even more fun during descent. Or would this completely screw up the geometry of this bike? I guess my main concern is the rear travel will only be 120mm still and that it could feel odd? I've never really looked that long and hard into the number crunching of geometry, so any input is appreciated.

Haven't stumbled across an organized thread on this forum yet of other (non-Chinese) bikes people have purchased or have laying around. I guess I'm curious to see what everyone else rides when their Chiner is at home!

To start things off... Bought this bike a few weeks ago from a guy who is selling all his stuff to move to Alaska. I've wanted a road bike for awhile because their easier to get out and ride where I live and go to school. Obviously, I didn't get a road bike.. I went to a shop to find my fit for some different frames, but was attracted to the aerodynamic qualities of the tri bikes. I didn't mind the more forward geometry and since I would primarily be riding alone so I didn't need to worry about drafting and quick braking. Going from the road bike to the tri bike was a huge difference. I could rip on the tri bike. So I started pricing things out... Wow. Pretty expensive!! So I went the chinese route, got some quotes, but the tri frames were even more expensive than the CS-036 I bought. Plus, these frames are largely unreviewed, so I would've been taking a chance with components and probably have suffered from some massive headaches. Anyways, this deal popped up on craigslist locally so I sprung on it! I don't regret it at all. Really love how fast it is and how comfortable it is. I'm now going to swim and run during the winter to try and get in shape for some triathlons this summer.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / QBP Tour (Quality Bicycle Products)

So I had the opportunity to tour QBP's Minnesota headquarters the other week to see the inner workings of their company and specifically their design team. It was fascinating to see massive warehouse rooms filled with bike stuff... Eagle drivetrains everywhere and test bikes all over. It was an awesome tour, but why would I post about it? Well we had a meeting with one of the Industrial Designers who told us that QBP doesn't patent their frame designs. I was shocked! If QBP frames aren't patented why aren't the Chinese making "inspired" frame designs around more current geometry and bike technologies? QBP owns Surly, Salsa, Heller, Foundry Cycles, etc. I just wonder why they aren't making more current designs. Granted cutting molds at each size is probably $10,000+ per mold...

Anyways. Just thought it was interesting.

Sales & Classifieds / Scott twin loc remote

I bought a twin loc lever from a bike shop earlier this summer, but don't like how it needs to be mounted on the left side of my bars. I have a dropper lever there so I didn't want to move it. The twin loc hasn't been mounted or used. I'm asking $65 and for chinertown members I'll pay shipping. If you're international we might be able to meet in the middle. I'll post pictures later, but if you google image search you should know what it looks like..

29er / Midwest's 036 Build

Very excited to finally start one of these threads for myself! I'm tired of looking through all the other threads imagining what it will be like to have my own Chiner! So I have everything on order now... All of the components besides my wheels are here so I'm probably going to do some unboxing and building Friday when I get a little more time. Hopefully this carbon wheel-set from Peter is worth the wait! For now I'll upload my build list! I have to update the list a little more with new weights for rotors and also individual parts of the groupset, but for now I'm probably looking at a 26lb bike. A little heavy, but the dropper post, seat, tires and fork aren't the lightest that I could go!

29er / Help me decide: CS-036 or CS-098 (Full Suspension 29ers)

So... I've been planning to build a CS-036 for that longest time, but today I stumbled upon some builds done with a different 29" frame known as the IP-098. The frame is very similar to a Specialized Enduro and has room for a larger fork and larger rear shock. I did a little research and was only able to find 3 or 4 builds with the frame. Not much to go off of, but most people seemed happy enough with it. Anyways, I emailed Peter with a picture of the frame and he told me that he can get it for me and the reason he doesn't list it on his site is because "the reviews are not as good as the CS-036". I think the frame is sexier and has a little more potential to be something that can be used aggressively in some more downhill technical terrain. I'll upload the geometry and image that Peter included and you guys can feel free to give me some opinions. It's definitely an interesting frame!

29er / CS-036 Build Book / Beginners Guide

Hey guys, So I've ordered all of the components I'll need for my 036 except for the frame and wheels from Peter. I expect to place my order in the next few weeks and start the build soon after. I'm a first time builder here on Chinertown, and I've found this site to be a incredible resource to someone who doesn't know everything that they need to about building a bike. I'm a designer by trade and I'd like to give back to the community with a well documented build including a step by step process of me assembling my bike, different component specs and detailed images. My goal would be to provide someone with a PDF document that they could use as a reference for their own build. I would like to compile all of the tidbits and scraps that I've accumulated from other posts and assemble them in a way so that a person can hopefully use this guide as a reference when buying parts. I'm looking to start the rough layout of the document soon and I'm going to be roughly following the order of operations that was posted by Carbon Dude. If you guys don't mind looking stuff over every once and awhile that would really help me tune this document so it's easy to understand and use.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

29er / CS-036 Build Resources and other tips?

Hello,

It's been a few years since I joined the forums, but I finally have enough financial stability (thanks college) to begin a Chiner build! I've never really completely built a bike from scratch before, so I'm looking for resources and part lists that I can steal ideas and components that I need. I'm thinking in general of building a CS-036 with SRAM XX 2x10 and carbon rims. I want an upgrade from the titanium behemoth I'm riding now. So... If you guys could point me to some threads that would help me out and just in general put up with my first timer questions that would be great!
