Re: FM1002 / FM1166 - 150mm frame Man, bike building is an addiction. I bought a 936 frame that I WAS going to make a budget XC racer reusing a lot of parts off my current bike, but that evolved into buying all new parts for it. So now I'm debating buying one of these frames to actually reuse the older parts and make something with more travel to better handle local trails..... jeez down the rabbit hole I go...

Re: FM1002 / FM1166 - 150mm frame
A was thinking about the 1001, but I think it's to close to the fm936, don't you think?

Thats exactly my reasoning... My current training bike is 130f/120r and where I'm  at there's a bunch of trails that get real dodgy, real fast.. so I figured getting a new frame and swapping it to something with more travel will be safer.. then I have my XC-ish bike with the 936

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts

The silver aluminum spacer is what limits the stroke... like I said, I would rather add another spacer than try and cut that off/modify

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts
Hello all!  I am 6'2 with 34 inseam and can't decide between a L or XL FM936.  Any thoughts or feedback from those who have built theirs up?  Thanks!

Really depends on what you personally find the most comfortable. I'm about the same size and went for a L because it more closely matches the geo of my current bike that I intend to do all my training on....

What do you currently ride and how does it relate to this frame?

Re: Best FM909 downcountry tires Honestly, the "best" tire is different for every terrain and locality... we can recommend out the wazoo but doesn't mean it will be any good for you. Best bet is to hit the trails in your area and see what other people have/ask them questions...

Also how does one define a "down country" tire.... I know the new Forekaster was just remade with a heavier casing and categorized as "down country" (which kills me because I liked those tires because they were light-ish and most importantly inexpensive). I just got a set of Vittoria Martello's that I'll be trying here in Arizona, I'll likely be throwing on some Mezcal/Barzo's to try as well.

Re: Carbonda FM909 ooooh a 909 with the Mara... lmk how it goes. I have a Mara on my 936, I hope to get a 909 frameset eventually once I'm done abusing my 936 (If I ever finish assembling it, lol)

Re: Carbonda FM909
Oh, and anybody with knowledge of the Mara / R7 Pro that wants to suggest a tune....
Looking forward to the traction more than the comfort.

Ride it first and see what it's lacking. There is a setup guide for the forks as they can be a little harsh out of the box, they recommend that you open them up, lube the IRT and main air pistons with slickoleum and fill oil bath with 15-22cc's  of oil (iirc).

as for the shock, be sure to reset the negative pressure once installed (easiest) unless you have some kind of rig to compress your shock outside of the bike.

Re: Carbonda FM909 Well we all know that these are open molds and just about anyone can order frames out of them. Looking at it quickly the advertised weights are almost a pound different for XL. Carbonda advertises the frame as the “super light” layup, so I would guess Ican has the normal layup.

I known that ICan has a warehouse in So Cal, I wonder if you could pick up a frame in person and forgo shipping.

We need someone with a couple grand to order both frames and do a side by side comparison lol

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame
As for the optional parts, I would skip the basic 1.5” headset Carbonda offers and get one from FSA or similar. I had some issues with my Carbonda headset which others have also described: lets water in, and develops creaky play in a short amount of time.

The rear axle they offer works fine, and isn’t terribly heavy or anything so I don’t see the point in getting one from a different company.

I would at the very least get the Carbonda stuff so you aren't potentially out of luck finding other brands. There is someone on this board that decided not to get the headset and was stuck with a frame they couldn't build because they couldn't source another headset.... for the relatively little money, it's worth it for the peace of mind at the very least.
