Re: Are AliEx/open mold carbon bikes common in your area?

I currently have 3 bike builds. I only run Shimano RD/FDs, but I've been experimenting with Sensah/Ltwoo shifters, AliEx cranksets and brake calipers. I have an itch to build a lightweight 1x disc climbing bike, but just using affordable components. I like the idea of building affordable lightweight mechanical bikes tuned to perfection.

I did just build a climbing bike using the velobuild 066 frame.  I went rim brake and 2x but it will be sub 6.8kg.  it had the Sensah 2x12 groups on it originally and I actually really liked it.  performance was great and it shifted just as I would have expected.  I got a wild hair and switched stover to shimano 9100 mechanical rim brake.  I figured this may be my last change to get a rim brake non-electric group set in my lifetime.  hahaha.

Re: LightCarbon 918? Wheels are built and everything is ready to ride.  Total weight is 23.5lbs.  The light carbon graphene rims make for some seriously light weight wheels.   Together with Pilar spokes and the Venfort hubs I am at about 1270g.  Super happy with this build.

Best grams/$$$$ upgrade has to be all the titanium bolts. Hahahahaha.  I know it is a waste but it is also the most fun part of any bike build.

Re: LightCarbon LCG010-D Anyone have one?
It also has tubes molded into the frame and fork for the hydraulic hoses, so you can just stick the hose in on one side, and it will come out the other, without the need for cable routing tools or placeholder tubes.

Oh hell yeah!!  I love when they do that.  No farting around with the foam tubing either.  God I wish that was a law for all frame manufacturers.   Thank hat makes me so happy!!!!

I would actually get more excited if I see someone with an open mold/AliEx bike. I ride on the occasional group rides and it's always the same LBS purchased or direct-to-consumer brand bike. I'm more interested in the custom builds. Nothing irks me more when someone has a $6k plus bike and you can hear a poorly tuned derailleur! Even in a big city like LA, it's always the same name brand stuff everywhere I go.

I always love the trek 9.9 what ever or the S-works what ever that you can hear the rusty squeaky chain on from 100yds away.  They spend $3k on aero wheels to save 4 watts and then runs drive train so dry and gritty it is costing them 30 watts.  I have never understood that one.

Re: Fake eeBrakes G4 I received the email from Cane cmCreek about their limited edition $800 brakes that we can be so lucky to buy.  While I'd am not buying those I was noticing they sell small parts for the EEbrakes.  They actual sell the pad bolts and spacers for like $5-$10.  Everything is sold individually but for $30-$40 you could get actual EEbrakes parts for the only part that I have ever heard complaints about.  If my titanium bolts don't work out how I want I will be going this route.

They also sell the brake pads for a shockingly reasonable price.  Not allot and carbon compounds.

Re: Fake eeBrakes G4
Nice hack! Stick it back to them lol. Those are getting crazy honestly. Last month I was selling an All-City bike locally and someone proposed a trade offer for CK components. Just out of curiosity I asked what does he have to trade and guy says limited edition CK brakes from 2019 but since my bike was only $900 he said it's not an even trade and wanted me to pay $100 on top. Per him those brakes "will only go up in price" because every year there's a new limited edition and old ones keep getting rare :-X

Yeah when i am buying and selling bikes i avoid anything with Pauls, Chris King, Enve, etc. components.  nothing really wrong with the parts (other than ego driven elitism and over pricing) but the people that put them on their bikes generally have an emotional attachment to the bikes and the perceived status it gives them.  not exactly sure but they always think that they are worth big $$$ even when on a shit bike.  and they usually get very offended when i offer a realistic price.  Also with the CK headsets, i still dont know what you are paying for.  I am going year 7 now with my NECO Chinese one that was $15.  and it is on a fat bike that sees salted roads and lots of moisture.  a CK would have to last 1000 yrs to make the cost worth it.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-066 Rim brake (not dead yet?) Sorry to everyone as i still have no new wheels.  however i do have a set of old wheels and some calipers to measure the clearances.  i have installed a tireless wheel so it is easier to see and the results look.  there is a little over 41mm in width where the tire would be and 32mm from the rim to frame in the front (the tires height)  So i am pretty confident that i will be able to sneak 30mm tires in there.  28s will definitely fit

Re: Velobuild VB-R-066 Rim brake (not dead yet?) Full bike pic. Don’t judge the odd tires.  Just needed something to measure clearances.  30mm tires of any flavor are hard to come by.  Seems to be a popular size.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-066 Rim brake (not dead yet?) One thing you could look at doing is getting a longer but steeper stem and then flip it up.  hard to tell from the pics but it looks like your stem is a 6 degree and is angled down.  if you went with a 17 degree stem you could remove a few spacers and have your bars end up in the same spot.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro" I am also looking at this for a DH build.  Anyone have experience with going to a longer shock?  Maybe pushing 190 or 200mm rear travel?   Also, has anyone confirmed with Carbonda if this frame will take a dual crown fork?  Or more importantly if it specifically won't take one.
