26er & 27.5 (650b) / Re: John's 26er Build for the Kiddo

One more question. Any chance this frame will fit a 27.5 wheel/tire setup?

I'm pretty sure I am going to get at least one 14.5" frame but I am unsure which frame / size to get for my oldest. Peter's CS-016 in the 14.5" size might work as it's a bit longer and she is a few inches taller than her sister. Or maybe get two of these, one 14.5 and one 16. But if I go with the 16", it would be nice to throw in a 27.5 wheel when she can handle it. I'm thinking they will be roughly 4'6" and 4'10" or more when they will be riding these next spring.

So basically I have at least 4 months to collect parts and over analyze the frame choice. Over and over again....

I would guess that a bearing is bad or the assembly is incorrect. How do the bearings feel when you spin them in your hand without being installed on bike? Also, post some photos of your installation order.

I have 4 of these. 1 on the wife's road bike and 3 on my mountain bikes. One of the 4 was a little rough but nothing a little file and sand paper couldn't take care of.

Just a cow. The mountains of northern Italy aren't bad either.

I believe there frames are somewhat unique. The have a HT plus frame that is quite similar to ICAN's frame. Frame geo is slightly different if i remember correctly.

Survey:

062 on a Niner RDO fork?

Purpose: touring bike with marathon supreme tyres 2.0

Any comments my chiner brothers?  :-\

I'm running the Workswell rigid fork with a A2C measurement of 482 on mine with great results. I can't see why the Niner fork wouldn't work great too.

Hey, a fellow Stache owner!  Upgrading wheels is in the plan but for now I am sticking with the Mulefut alloy wheels.  I figure I'd drop about 600 grams if I did an upgrade to 50mm carbon wheels with DT Swiss hubs which would be sweet as Im not too crazy about the single wall alloy wheels that come on the Stache but so far no problems.

Did you get a weight on the stock wheel set? You have the 7 correct?

Hey bxcc,

Love the pics of your bike built up. Looks great, and is ridiculously light!

Was wondering about the carbon wheels you had built up for your bike. How do you like them?

I went ahead and got a great deal on a Stache 9, am loving it so far! Don't think I could go back to my 29er or even 27.5+. The reason I'm asking about the wheels is that's the next upgrade to the bike. Would like your feedback if posssible.

Thanks

Thanks, I am very pleased with the final product. The only thing that is a concern is the steep head angle. I really want to try it with a 120 fork to get it around 69.5 or so. But a new fork isn't in the cards right now. Especially since this bike was intended to be a winter / crappy weather bike. I'm not sure what it is but I am having more fun on the 062 single speed. The measurements are all pretty close expect for the head angle and 3 pounds of tires and gears. Which the 062 is at 70.5 with the rigid fork. Maybe it's all in my head.....

As for the wheels, so far they have been great. I am down to about 13psi or so and I still haven't had much for rim strikes and my riding weight is about 180 pounds. They don't feel heavy when I'm riding but I can notice a difference when I get back on the 5010 or WW-062 SS. But to be honest, I still have less than 250 miles on the bike. Now that the weather is nice and the trails are dry, I have been riding the SS and 5010. For reference, the SS wheel set weighs roughly 1725g and has 29x2.2 Bontrager XR2's and the 5010 wheels are 1750g and have 27.5x2.35 Bontrager XR3 (rear) and XR4 (front) tires.

For a start I find it wrong that I have to pay for something that I truly believe should be a no-nonsense task. If Peter wants a deposit prior to shipping of the new parts that clearly are defective/wrong, fine by me but hello - Is that fair ?

Karsten

I'm not saying I would be super excited about this option either, just that for me it would be acceptable. Well that depends on the cost of the chainstay. I would hope that it would be well under $100 and that would be acceptable to me to get it up and running in a timely fashion. I've had two Santa Cruz frames break. They have great customer service and took care of me quickly. But I still had to send the frame back on my dime before they would send a new one. Thankfully the second time I was able to cut the BB area out and send in just the BB shell with the serial number on it. But back on track, I do agree that for something like this, it should have went smoother.

So 4'8" is doable. Perfect. I'm thinking something a touch bigger for my 9 year old who is 4'8" now. My 7 year old is 4'4" now and she has ridden her sisters XS 26" wheeled GT on pavement without issues. The frames would be Christmas presents and they wouldn't be ridden until this time next year. Obviously I have some time to spare but I'm trying to find frames that would work. I'm thinking some 12k weave options would be cool.
Thanks again

Any updates on how the frame fits him? I'm thinking of getting a couple of frames for my daughters for this coming Christmas. How tall is your son and how is it working for him?
Thanks

Here is an option. What if Karstenhorn buys the replacement parts for a small fee and waits for them to arrive. Once they arrive, he then sends the faulty parts back to Peter. While Peter sorts the mess out with the factory, Karstenhorn can be riding his bike. Once the situation is resolved, Peter can then refund the money for the parts purchase. Or send some replacements and karstenhorn would have a spare in case something happens in the future. There will still be some down time until the replacements arrive but no one will be out any significant money and Karstenhorn will be riding sooner. I know it's not the best solution but there is minimal risk on both ends. If the factory can't replace them, at least the bike is up and running and Karstenhorn isn't out $750 or more on an unusable frame.

On another note, what is the lower headset size? I need a new lower unit (or at least a new race) so I can run a straight 1 1/8 steerer. I know it's a fully integrated unit but unsure of size.

Something like this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/J-L-1-1-8-to-1-1-2-Tapered-Steerer-Crown-Ring-fork-Headtube-Adaptor-Headset/271266207368?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Dd6140e9173fe4fbf83f99f31a4734a4d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D361257317902

Yup exactly like that. But aren't there different widths (49mm vs 52mm) for the lower headset?

I have 760's on the trail bike and the plus bike. The 062 SS has 720's. I like 760's despite the fact that I still hit stuff. Nothing to cause a crash yet but I've lost at least 5 bar end plugs.

I have the matching fork from Workswell / Sobato and I've been very pleased with the handling of the bike. It's short at 482mm and has the 45 degree offset. If you're not set on the new Fox fork, I have a new 2014 Sid I would let go for relatively cheap. I got it for my daughters bike then found a better suited Reba for cheaper. Now I'm debating about putting it on my 062 or sell it. Here is the Pinkbike link for anyone interested. That price is the PB price not the Chinertown price.  ;D
