So I was really keen to get one of these as a upgrade to my P9. However I was just quoted $610 shipping to South Africa. WTF? Has anyone else been hit like that?

Hi Gentlemen, there has been some brief mention of headset modifications on page 6, but that was just a spacer under the bottom race. I want to try modify the HA on mine and as far as I can see the only way to do this is by using the https://9point8.ca/collections/slack-r-kits

Has anyone tried something else?

Gentlemen

My ICAN P9 is in the market and I will buy one of these should I get it sold. Ive had it for 2.5 years and although I love it, I am quite convinced this frame quality is up there, and its just a bit more modern on all fronts.

Where did you buy from, and and can you guys please drop the email addresses of the folk you dealt with? I could go on the main website but speaking to the right person first up will save some time.

Thanks in advance!

I have been following this thread for a while now, thinking about a 3rd Chinese carbon frame, I am currently on a Ican P9.

I must say, this frame seems to have a lot of little niggles. I'm in South Africa, and currently, supply is low on a lot of stuff, so not the time to be doing anything silly.
The P9's are pretty sorted. Solid out the box. Mine is almost 2 years old and it hasn't given me a moment of issues. The Geo is slightly dated, mostly the HA.

Can anyone give some ride reviews? The SA on these also look pretty slack?

Thanks

I have a friend interested in this build. Hows it going?  I know one mtbr forum "down country" LCFS 958 looking frame cracked so I'd be interested to hear how yours is standing up ?

Really nice build. I'm still quite happy on my P9, but this frame has compatible guards chain stay protectors etc.. Which makes it really nice.

I noticed your Seat Angle is 65 deg, which is a pity, because my long legs will expose that weakness, and It ends up defining the climbing character quite a bit. One can possible take 2-3deg back by sliding the seat forward, but I'm not to keen for that.

Still, nice bike though. Wish they would get the seat tube angles right.

Hi there. Awesome build.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a P9 after owning a P8 for two years but having had it stolen, I'm replacing it with big brother P9. The seatqngle on my P8 was just a bit to slack, I'm 6ft but my legs seem longer than most. The effective seat angle therefore gets pretty slack. Can you comment on that? Also, ICAN offers a 2017 RS Super delux RT3. I'm considering this. They come in Medium compression/ rebound tune. Any Idea what yours are?

Hey Bos, not too sure about the p8 angle but the p9 felt fine with me. i'm 6,1 and felt the uphill pedals were fine. I was also considering the rt3 that ican offers but decided to go for coil instead. Now that i have the super deluxe rct, i would recommend it over the rt3. The adjustable LSC is a awesome addition to the shock.  Sorry for the Late response.

Ive had about 6 months on my P9. Im seriously happy. Its not a rocket uphill, but I'm not sure many 6'' bikes are. Ive got a fairly lightweight build, with Maxxis 2.5 inch 29er rubber. That stuff at 1kg a pop will take the zip out of most bikes. However not unhappy at all.

My question is about the tune of the rear shock. I know on my Pervious bike a ICAN P8, that going from a firm to a light tune made a massive difference. the one felt harsh on rocky rooty downhills while the light just sucked it to the ground and bumps dissapeared. It was a FOX DPS though. My new shock is a RS Deluxe RT3 with Medium tune, which is what Ican reccommended, but I'm 72kg's and about 160lbs, and Im wondering if Its the shock, or the tune.

These shocks are aparently not that straightforward to do a light tune on. Unless my tuning shop doesn't know what they're talking about.

Anyone have a medium tuned Rear airshock?

I saw this when shoping around for my current bike. I was quite interested but only found Dabomb frames so ditched it. 160mm rear travel right?

I got a Ican P9 in the end but good on you for trying something different. Keep us posted to how it comes along.

What did he say, how far is it? Hard to make out exactly what they did without seeing the hardware.

Hi Guys
This post has been dormant for a while but before I go start another, "My ICAN P9 thread", Let me ask the question here.

Has anyone put a 150mm fork on one? I see most of you have 160-170 mm forks. I'm going to be riding mine with a 210x52.5mm RS Deluxe which is internally adjustable to 55mm for 150mm travel, but I just want to see If I really need the extra travel as I will be riding all over with mine. There are no uplifts and I ride singletracks most days with the odd Enduro race thrown in.

How bad does it affect the HA? The axel to crown length is about 560mm while the geometry chart has a 570 in there.  Pity It doesn't have a High and Low setting. Perhaps something to make aftermarket at the top shock mount.

Some Hightower reviews i read mention how Santa Cruz tuned the shock for the new low link VPP. How do you think the performance of this bike will be affected by the lack of specialized tune? Will it feel really different than an actual Hightower?

Many, many bikes get a custom tune over the m/m baseline you'll usually get aftermarket. You end up with a couple options here.

1. Assume its exactly the same as the hightower and order a shock with a tune for a hightower right away (expensive and you have to buy a new shock)
2. Get whatever shock used/aftermarket and then play around with the options available to you until it's "good enough"
3. do #2 but get a custom tune done after you spend some time on the bike.

If you browse the SC hightower thread on MTBR many of them aren't happy with the stock tune anyway.

I agree.
I'd go option 3.
Custom tuning sounds so hocus pockus but in reality it's quite basic and as you say, most would have it done anyway.

Shocks are quite tunable these days, so you'll get there. Try start with a M/M and work your way from there.  The Hightower  might need a soft compression tune with volume spacers to get the sag right. Or a coil like you said.

I ordered a Ican P9 last week. But if this turns out good I will sell it and get this.

Ah darn. I just want to get going on a new build! I have everything set and it's really just the frame. What size will be done first? Large?

Are any of you going to order?

Has anyone heard anything from/about this frame?  I am about to pull the trigger on a ICAN P9 if this does not show promise.

I have owned a Santacruz and love the VPP suspension.I just cant afford them anymore.

I am in the market for a more up to date and slightly longer travel bike then the ICAN P8. However, I'm not so sure I want to own the very first one.. 19'' is my size, might wait until someone puts it through its paces, theres quite a lot to get right in a month. If the last pic they have is still the 3D printed version..
