After The Ride / Re: What kind of riding do you do?
« on: July 14, 2014, 06:04:34 PM »
I'm an XC too. I like speed on rocks and mud and climbs.
Bought a Cannondale Rush 2nd hand a year ago and started to ride seriously.

I try to do twice a week 30-40km/400-600m in the woods around Brussels.
My best so far, is a 80Km/1950m track in the Vosges in France two weeks ago.

Do you think it is still possible to pass the cable once the BB is installed?
May be trough the hatch at the bottom?

Carbonal seems to have by far the fastest lead time. A week!

Their website is much more professional than the others.
And the frames geometry looks quite right.

It is surprising they don't get much attention here and on mtbr.
Good find jonxmack. I'm looking forward to see your pictures.

Where people drive on the left side of the street(UK, Australia, Japan,...)
The brakes are in fact inverted.

So your Trek and the new one are the norm where you live

I had the same anti-curve feeling when I saw the new Cannondale F-Si
http://reviews.mtbr.com/first-look-cannondale-2015-f-si-29-carbon
But it won't be ready for next week either and sits on another price range!

Some folks posted recently their 256 on mtbr.
And I think I'll be happy with it(mine is on its way to Europe).
Honsen Bikes had a slightly shorter lead time(4/5 weeks).

Thanks for the lights link!
Which flash light in particular did you choose?

brmeyer135, what is a short chainstays?

The upcoming Cannondale F-Si, has a 429mm chainstays.
They say "The shortest chainstays on the market, for incredible traction, stiffness and agility"

Does the 21mm makes a real difference, or it is just marketing?

After more discussions with mtnbikebend on mtbr.

It looks it is relatively easy to pass the cables for the rear derailleur.
The bottom hatch below the BB looks to be there to help on this.
You can re-route the cable through the frame without using the housing that came with.

And crossing the cable in front of the bar, to get a nicer bend is ok too.

In addition he used the ESI grips, and cut them to the right length to cope with the Gripshift and have the brakes at the right place.

All this is obviously still theory for me, but in a couple of weeks, I'll try!

Today on mtbr someone posted one of the first build pictures I saw:
http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/chinese-carbon-29er-640919-311.html#post11316074

But plenty of people ordered them but had to wait a long time to get it.

jonxmack, Not sure if that may help you, but someone posted this on mtbr:

The 196 looks to be the 650b equivalent of the 256 frame.
I PM'ed him yesterday, and 3+ months later, he really loves is bike with the rigid fork.

From what I understood, I don't think putting a shorter fork is about dropping the BB a few millimetres.
But you are nearer to a wheel of a shopping cart. Making the bike more unstable.
While putting a too long fork, the bike will be harder to turn.

When you meet a new culture, all people look the same initially.
Probably this is what makes you think it looks like a 256 :)

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: Favorite Carbon Finish?
« on: July 10, 2014, 02:14:03 AM »
Yeah I was surprised by the weight related answer too.
UD is a quite boring finish indeed.

For me 3k is the one that look the most "carbon" of all.
But only UD was available for the X-256 frame.

As a consolation the other carbon parts will be 3k.
And the Lefty tube is 12k.

When I ordered my HM-256 from Honsen Bikes, I asked for a 3k matte.
And Leo told me they were only doing UD (IPlay do the same) because of the weight.
UD being lighter than the other usual weaves.

Here is an old post on weight weenies about alternate grips for a gripshift.
http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=111890

It looks we can cut the grips to the size we want after all.
