Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts Was going to order a S3 but I think I will end up with the FM936 as they have a Shock in stock, been reading the thread and you make some interest remarks on the frame. I think you are close to 1.8M and went with the M correct? I might ride a lot of gravel/dirt road how does this bike feel at top pedaling compared to a marathon bike? Also any tips on the build? I plan to go cheap either SLX or Sram NX but with Shimano brakes.

thanks

I did participate to the Grand Rallye VTT Transverdon in France with my FM-936.
80 riders, 5 days, moving camping, 16 descents, 6000m climbing and 8000 descending.

Here's my FM-936 put on steroid for the occasion, 36mm rims, Magic Mary in front and Hans Dampf in the back( wanted Maxxis like everyone else, but didn't find in stock ).
203mm/180mm disc rotors.

The bike and myself survived!
It was clearly out of our league, but I improved day by day.
I lost one pivot screw, a zip kept the pivot in place. I should have lock threaded them all...
Broke my GPS mount at the first crash( crashed 3x ).
And bent the hanger twice and put it back straight.

So if someone doubt over the solidity of this frame, don't !

I'm afraid I will need a FM1166 for the future  ::)

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Loved the color of the frame, whats the name?  it has some flakes in the paint?

The 168 will not clear 35c comfortably. I'll probably rotate but it will be very limited in clearance. The fork is the main limiting factor

33-34c is max.

Here shown with 32c WAM all-road tires

Consider the CFR-1056 as it weighs about the same, has external cable routing, and will importantly clear a 35c tire comfortably.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177 Mine is the version where the stem and handlebar are separated, also having a hard time getting the cables neutral, they keep forcing the steerer left, tried to run the cable twice so far.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
First Impressions video is live. VeloBuild also sent me an EPS latex molding of the frame, as well as a broken down cut up carbon frame to inspect the insides of the frame. I discuss this in the video. Pretty cool!

Great video! I did my first ride with the 177 and I really liked the feeling of the ride compared to the VB-099. The 177 feels more nimble/agile and compliant over uneven roads, considering most of my rides are over bad tarmac I really liked the change. As for the fork issue with the rivet not being parallel, Velobuild was nice enough to send me a new one, once I get the new fork I will update the ride experience.

My bike weighs 8.1KG with 105 Groupset and Elite DT240 Wheels (38MM)

Re: carbon dropouts are evil ?!
Greetings to all members of the forum! started thinking about buying a carbon frame from China, and found that all frames have carbon dropouts, hence the question to everyone who already operates such frames, how quickly do carbon dropouts break? I have an Italian frame Chesini modulo, manufactured in 2012, in which all the dropouts are made of aluminum, the mileage is 90 thousand kilometers, and the dropouts are still in good condition! I liked the V-BR - 068 aero frame, but judging by the photo, the dropouts are carbon fiber! Feedback from users of this frame model!

The hanger will snap before anything, I would not worry about that. A friend has the 68 he is happy with it, I had the newer disc version 99 and I loved that frame. Took a while to adjust the fit with the integrated cockpit but in the end the bike was very good to ride.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
Thanks for the feedback. Looking at the stack in the 177 geometry chart I reckon most tall people will have to order extra spacers if they are building this as an endurance / comfort kinda build. Roughly measuring from the floor to handlebars I foresee needing extra spacers to replicate my current stack on the 099/TT-X21 frame.

The front end is very low/agressive. On my VB99 frame I had one 2MM spacer, with the 177 I'm riding a 5MM and 2MM.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
. One thing to note with the separate handlebar/stem, is that getting the compression plug and expander bolt to properly take up all the slack/play in the fork has been tricky. Perhaps I just need to cut the steerer a little shorter to allow the dust cap to further compress without crushing it.

The cap doesn't sit flush with the stem, thats why its hard. I was considering buying a Deda Superbox stem because of that. Just waiting for the new fork to decide what to do.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177 Update on the headset issue, the expander kept coming off and I thought it was the expander. But after changing the expander I realized it was the stem. The screws were coming loose and pulling the expander out, they use sleeve like screws for the stem which I donĀ“t like, I used some thread lock and the problem went away.

The frame is very good but the handlebar/stem needs some work, wanted to buy the old integrated handlebar but they no longer sell those.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
I switched to this one. Works a lot better, no slipping issues.

My suggestion, check to see if the stem is not becoming loose and knocking the expander out. Are you using the one piece handlebar, are the screws a two piece thing? Use some threadlock on them

Also there are some longer expanders from Neco in Aliexpress that are quite good.
