Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: TanTan TT-X21 frame
« on: April 04, 2024, 11:51:23 AM »
I bought this frame back in 2020 with this custom design, and only the frame from Tantan. I built the bike by myself.

About the groupset, it's a full mechanical Ultegra R8000... A real pain in the a** with the handlebar but it works flawlessly!

Frame 599$, custom design 70$, thru axle 24$ and shipping fees (to Switzerland) 85$

The current configuration is:

TT-X21 size 52
Full mech Ultegra R8000
Magene P505 powermeter with 52/36 Spécialités TA chainrings
Prime Primavera 56 wheels
Conti GP5000S TR

Same size as the one I built for my son but 105/ultegra groupset mix with 160mm cranks, aliexpress saddle, look pedals, 4i crank based power meter, Farsports wheels set up tubeless, vittoria tyres.

Hi everyone,

I'm refreshing this topic to show you my future bike!

This is my first experience with TanTan and I'm very satisfied with the service so far. I had very specific requirements for this turnkey bike, and Rose from TanTan was very helpful.  Here are the photos I received today.

Description :
TT-X21 custom paint Size 56
50mm carbon rims with Continental GP500
Shimano 105 Di2

They should ship it this week, I can't wait to receive it.

I will update as soon.

When it arrives can you share where the battery is placed?  Is it inside the seat post like most bikes or in the down tube.  I am thinking of going Di2 on a x21.  If it is place in the seat post is there a custom braket to make it stay there?  If it is in the down tube what stops it rattling around?  Thanks much.

@max_the_rider Did you buy this as a complete bike, painted by TanTan?  What groupset is on it and can you share how much this cost?  Thx much

I am thinking of putting di2 on a tt=x21.  Can someone share how they connected the battery into the seat post on their bike?

Good afternoon: For my part, no problem in that matter.
The only thing about the entire assembly that is giving me any problems is the issue of anchoring the saddle. I had an Elita One carbon saddle installed but it was giving me some discomfort so I changed it for a Prologue Scrath M5 with round rails. I have tightened it to 15N and even today when I went over a bump it moved a little. It occurred to me to use blue Loctite applied to the entire area and see how it goes.
Blue loctite is for threaded applications.  Will not help you with this.
Generally carbon saddle rails are 7x9mm dimension and steel are 7x7mm so your seatpost saddle clamp might not be sized right for your saddle rails.  Some seatpost saddle clamps are specific to 7x9mm or 7x7mm and some are not.

Hello everyone,

I just ordered the x-21 frame. Getting all the stuff together for the build right now. In case of the saddle I am a bit unsure. Does the seat post provide a round or oval clamp?

Thanks for your help!

How did it work for you?  Any pictureds of the complete bike?  How did the build go?

My son has grown.  He currently has a size 52 and I am thinking of purchasing him a 56.  My customer service experience with tantan has not been good with small parts missing from shipments and then them insisting that I made a mistake, extra handlebars I purchase missing etc.

Hey, sorry didn't see your message earlier, TanTan actually had nothing to do with my parcel lost since i forwarded it to different warehouses, they delivered the package to the first warehouse without any problems.

Yes I understand tantan did nothing wrong.  I was interested in how you went about selecting a carrier adn communicating all the at info to tantan etc.

29er / Rigid 29er boost fork with long axle to crown???
« on: August 27, 2023, 04:53:44 PM »
I am looking for a rigid carbon fork with boost spacing and 160mm brake mounts to replace a fox 32 stepcast with a 505mm axle to crown measurement.  All the ones I find are 480mm (axle to crown) apart from a tideace model Mf-F-005 which I purchased on ebay.  Unfortunately with that one the fork is a bit flexible which causes the brakes to rub when I lean the bike over to the left hand side.  I would take 490mm axle to crown but it has to be stiff - I can't deal with brake rub!  Recommendations very welcome.
Thx,  Lloyd

I would really advise against getting anything from OG-Evkin. I have a cracked BB (after only 500km) so I asked about warranty and the seller (OG-Evkin Official Store) is very uncooperative.
It has been going on for more than a month now but is is just a series of false promises and long silences from their side. Very frustrating They have been promising a new frame for weeks but nothing concrete... I have mails Aliexpress customer service 2 times and it looks like they are a little more prone to answering the days after that.
The latest communication was last week and they said it would be shipped this week (they have been saying that for weeks. I will have to pay for shipping). They have not been answering messages since then so I am not getting my hopes up. If things would change I will keep you updated.
Presumably you paid aliexpress with your credit card so I would reach out to your credit card company either by calling them or disputing the charge.

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: True CX frame (not gravel)
« on: August 27, 2023, 03:48:49 PM »
Frames I've seen so far that meet my idea of a good CX geo (high BB, short chainstays):

-Flyxii FE-806 AKA Tan-Tan/Seraph GR029

-Velobuild CX002

-honorable mention goes to Yishunbike GR095, but it's hard to get one since it's Yishun

My favorite has to be the Flyxii FE-806. Cheap, super light frame, and the geo is somewhat progressive (a couple mm more bb drop and slightly longer headtube than Cervelo R5CX or Canyon Infinite), but not so progressive it becomes a gravel bike. If you overlay the frame against a R5CX on bikeinsights.com the Flyxii is pretty much bang-on except the headtube is slightly longer and taller, which are good things IMO.

Why is Yishun hard to get??

I've had my eye on the Kocevlo handlebar, only reason I haven't gotten it is because the stem is only available up to 110mm and I need 130mm. My friend has bought a set and I gotta say they're quite nice given the low price https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804787569282.html

Airwolf sells them up to 120mm stem: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805079402621.html

Premium-tier options include Farsports F1: https://www.pandapodium.cc/product/farsports-f1-classic-handlebar/

@dsveddy  did you ever find a 130mm stem 360mm width combo in an integrated handlebar?  What did you go with in the end?  I am looking for the same dimensions to keep my son riding on his bike a bit longer while he is still growing.

After almost two weeks of fighting with courier, they were able to deliver the package thanks God.

How did you go about organizing this with TanTan.  I am thinking of buying a frame from them and don't have a particular hurry and don't want to pay their huge shipping fee.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Frame recommendation
« on: August 24, 2023, 07:26:53 PM »
You must be very good at building bikes and "gebugging" problem frames and at the same time have a lot of luck with that.
I had not enough, and my bike shop told me get out of with the trash frame - they were not going to build it.
Went with Winspace and used frame, since they are sold everywhere around the world till the new batch.

Very sad when bike shops behave like that.  Sad for them really.  At my local bike shop, Bicycle Outfitter, in Los Altos California, a guy with a bushy beard and looking like he wants to live wild in Alaska, asked me "What is that?" when I came in with a TanTan X-21 with a broken stem expander plug/wedge.  And then he would not even bother to think about possible alternative solutions to the problem other than saying to get a replacement from the manufacturer, when I needed a ride for my kid's race the next day.

Anyway as someone else suggested I voted with my wallet a couple of days later when I needed brake mounts to be faced on a open mould xc mtb frame and fork.

Depending on how the dimensions match up, maybe drill the second hole in one of these caps?

Thank you so much.  Dimensions will ft almost exactly and I think I will be able to modify it as I need with a bit of sandpaper.  Two are on teh way from Aliexpress.
