Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame The velobuild cage I had on the seat tube (of an 099) also broke during the first ride I actually stuck a bottle in it lol. The little tab at the bottom just snapped. I guess the vertical mounting puts way more stress on the retainer. The downtube mounted one is still working well for me.

Re: I Am Slowly Getting Fed Up (Crybaby Rant) Yeah I basically expect next to zero post sale support. It's also really difficult (well just expensive) to send anything back. And if you can't send it back, what are the manufactures gonna do? I think it's a little unrealistic to expect insta-refunds or replacements for budget alternatives on the other side of the world.

Re: My experience with Velobuild wheels and requesting after sales support.
I have a story to contribute as well.

I ordered their wheelset (VB-RC-50 25mm tubeless) for my first build. At the time, I had never done a TL setup before and asked Chris if I needed rim tape thinking maybe the TL sku for the wheelset made it unnecessary.

Chris confirmed that I did not need rim tape. I used a floor pump and pumped the tire to about 60psi before there was a loud bang, carbon shards flew, and the rim wall delaminated. I was shocked.

I assumed I had done something wrong. I went to an LBS and explained what had happened, and asked them to setup my other wheel TL. If all went well, I would simply order another wheel to replace the one I had presumably messed up.

Unfortunately, the LBS pumped it and it exploded again sending one of their employees to the hospital (non-serious injury but another shock to me).

Clearly, the deep section cavity cannot take pressurization. On my ICANN wheelset, this is impossible as there's clearly a hole that would release build up if any leaked past the rim tape.

The final disappointment was Chris being unwilling to give me a refund and instead trying to get me to accept new rims and rebuild using the leftover spokes and hub. I kept demanding a refund until Chris stopped responding. I did a chargeback but was so sick of the situation that I didn't follow through with the back-and-forth and see what their lame excuse was.

Fast forward a year later, the R-168 frame has been great to me. I wasn't aware of the general negative sentiment (one year ago, VB was known as having the best post-sales support) and assumed I was a one-off. I followed up on my old thread with Chris asking if he'd honor a refund if I ordered another frame (I also needed a refund for the bottle cages that never came). He agreed but he refunded only one wheel (the cheaper one!) of the wheelset.

The new frame has worked well. I paired with an ICANN wheelset again. I'm still not sure if one should use rim tape with the VB wheelset or not, but either way, it's a serious design flaw for the rim to delaminate at moderate pressure.

This is by far the craziest story lol. Had to be a google translate mishap. Also probably(hopefully) the last time VB forgot to drill the little hole in a wheelset.

Re: LCFS947 - 160mm 4-bar 27+/29
I would try to patch it up with a carbon fiber repair kit that can be had on Amazon for $50.  It is just 2 part epoxy with carbon fiber fabric.  Prep the area with alcohol and knock off any loose paint.  Make a slurry with the epoxy kit and some chopped strands of carbon fiber and apply it to the damaged area.  Wrap it tightly with some shrink wrap to compress and allow it cure.

I looked into this, actually doesn't seem like too difficult of a repair. But there's no kits in Canada that are cheap. The Amazon ones are 100+, and I checked to buy the items individually and it'd be 150ish.

But Wendy @lightcarbon sent me an invoice for a new front triangle for $432 shipped. Pretty tempted to just go with that. Little bit more expensive but then I won't ever be concerned about it. Plus a downtube protector haha.

Re: Velo Build R-099 Build Straight seatpost finally showed up. Looks pretty good! Haven't gone on any rides with it yet, first one tomorrow. They also forgot to send me the new compression ring, at least my micro-spacer solution has been holding up fine.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro"
Could you please tell me which big brands offer alu frames at this price? i have a friend looking for something like this and all he finds is considerably higher cost :(

I think the closest option is probably the propain spindrift AL? https://www.propain-bikes.com/en/product/framesets/frameset-spindrift-al-29/ At least if you're in Europe, it's more expensive in NA.

It's mentioned earlier in this thread, but the Bird Aeris 9 is an interesting option, however with the 180mm link it ends up at just under1600usd https://www.bird.bike/product/aeris-9-frameset/#configuration

I've been considering the 1003 for a while now, but the lack of a bottle cage is holding me back. It'd just be a park/lift day bike, and in that case a full dh bike might just make more sense.

Re: Tideace 2022 New Enduro Mold FS838 Being Production Looks cool. 180mm seatpost insert is a little short, but a oneup 150mm will have 5cm exposed. Should be no problem, my 947 has 7cm exposed with a 120mm post.

Would love to see a partially built frame with a shock and idler installed. All the geo numbers look pretty solid.

EDIT: There's a few more renders and the 'test report' on the haidelibikes site: https://www.haidelibikes.com/marketing-products/enduro-29e-suspension-mountain-bicycle-frame.html

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro" I stumbled onto this pinkbike listing: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3574226/ and the company page: https://www.cachetbikes.com/product-page/downhill

Looks like a dh version of the 1003? Slightly different geometry chart, different shock size, but looks very similar otherwise. I've been looking for a dh frame lately and this would be a decent option.

Re: Spcycle 2023 New Travel 120mm Super Light 29er full suspension frame Headset routing is a marketing play to make maintenance of traditional cable pull systems so annoying people just break down and throw away money on wireless systems lol. Headset routing sucks, especially on mountain bikes.
