29+ & 27+ / Re: Can 29er MTB frame assembled with 27.5er wheels?
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:10:26 AM »
Would you really want to do it? It would bring the bottom bracket that much closer to the ground.  ???

Yeah good point. I guess it depends on the the geometry of the frame. You're probably right tho, bad idea, in general.

I actually didn't realize you could do this, or perhaps I just never thought about it. Seems like it'd be an easy way to try out the wheel size and/or bigger tyres.

Agreed. Very useful info. After this thread, I'm thinking that HR942C and Racing Ralph 2.4 combo might be exactly the I'm looking for. Have been very intrigued by 29+ option but judging from the pic you posted the aforementioned combo looks plenty big enough. Still going to keep looking at 29+ and wait to see what comes out in the next couple of months but this combo moved to the top of the list for now. Thanks!

Damn, 18.5 pounds is awesome. What size frame is it Viperdriver? .

Edit: Nevermind I see in the OP that it's a 17 inch.

I remember there was a thread on here about generic direct from China smart phones that are actually really nice phones and are way less expensive than your standard Apple/Android phones, but was wondering if there were other things you guys randomly picked up while trolling through aliexpress/ebay/alibaba?

Personally, I buy replica watches like nobody's business because they are so cheap and look pretty nice. I have one of every color of the Daniel Wellington replicas: http://www.aliexpress.com/af/daniel-wellington.html?ltype=wholesale&SearchText=daniel+wellington&d=y&origin=n&initiative_id=AS_20150627021853&isViewCP=y&catId=1511

$4 and I get compliments on them all the time.

Kinda random thread topic I guess but was just curious if there was some other cool stuff you guys bought that you thought were good deals. I know I was pumped as hell when I realized I could get these watches for so little $$$.

Great pics, thanks for sharing.

I agree that this area of the frame looks really cool. A lot "flatter" than I thought it would be. I dig it.

Yeah, I like it too. I guess nobody knows of a direct form manufacturer option in this frame? If that's the case, dud this company have it custom made or what?

Been having a hard time just viewing CS stuff ... website has performance issues and emails bouncing.

More weight over the front wheel geometry.  I am short 5' 6" and lightish (140)

I have built road racing, urban fitness (like cyclo) steel bikes, and commuter; this would be more weekend workout in bush XC trail and single track (enter citizen/senior style XC races).  So nothing highly aggressive and highly twitchy .. places I ride are flatter with sections of up or down that can be by passed if needed.

With your weight, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. I'd seriously look at the 041 or 256. But, the 057 is more of a proven frame. Pretty much zero issues have been reported on it, so that is a pretty big positive and I could understand why that would be attractive to potential buyers trying to make sense of all the various options.

I think you'd find that you'll get more help if you do a bit more research on your own and then come back with more specific questions. That said, I'll see if I can fill in a few of those knowledge gaps:

Quote
1. Are frames Coming from the same factory?

I think they most likely all come from 2-3 big factories.

Quote
2. If they do not all come from the same factory which manufacturer produced as the best OEM China frame?

Regardless of whether or not they all come from the same factory or not, as far as I know, there isn't a certain seller or manufacturer that is known within the community as provided a higher quality/better/more durable carbon. If that does exist then said seller manufacturer has done a very poor job of marketing that fact. Either way, there is no community consensus preferring the quality of one seller over the other. It usually comes down to price and service.

Quote
3. Is it best yo by from ebay or directly from the manufacturer?

Again, it comes down to price and service. To me, I wouldn't want to buy from ebay because I don't have any idea of the sellers rep. That said, lots of people go the ebay route with success. The buyers you linked to are who I'd personally go with. Hongfu, Carbon Speed, Carbonal, Iplay, Yoeleo, Dengfu, have all been around for a while and have built up decent reps.
Quote
1. UD matt finish
2. 142x12 through axel
3. Taperd head tube.
4. As much internal cabel as possible.
The following is not a requirements but a big plus.
5. 165mm rear shock (So I can reuse the one I have now)
6. direct mount front derailleur (The plan is to run 1x11, but it's nice to have the option)
7. BB92 buttom bracket (To get a newer standard.)

The 27.5 frame on Alibaba that you linked to is new to me... Never seen it before. Didn't even know they made a chiner with that type of suspension design. So I can't really say much about it. If you decide you want to go 27.5 then i personally like the one linked from Dengfu, the fm288, a lot better. just basing that on snap judgement though. The Carbonal Titan seems like a pretty sweet frame but isn't as popular as some of the other options and so less is known about it overall. It's also a bit more expensive, I believe. The frames linked from Carbon Speed and Yoeleo are actually the same frame: the 036. And that's the frame I'd probably go with. Been around for a while and there are quite a few really nice builds utilizing the 036 on this forum (Carbon_Dude's comes to mind: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4.msg7.html#msg7) and so far all reports and reviews have been positive.

Not to confuse the situation even more but there's also the 098: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,530.0.html

Hopefully that made some sense and will help get you rolling in the right direction. Just be patient and keep reading. It's really not as complicated as it at first may seem. Like I said, trim down to more specific questions and we'll be able to help out a bit more.

Obligatory congrats to cmh, but damn.. I really wanted to win these rims! Had some fat tyres picked out and everything. Lol.

Awesome drawing wheel. But I miss the pretty lady from the last drawings.

Yes. Miss Chinertown. I too am a fan  ;D

« on: June 15, 2015, 08:02:39 PM »
Thanks for the reply, yeah.. Even for more experienced riders it can be kinda difficult to describe the subtle differences in performance of the various suspension designs.

So wait.. You did swap the same shock over from the Rip? And the same shock at the same pressure felt stiffer on the 098 and thus you let some air out of the shock? I'm sure that says something about the suspension performance of the 098, but I'm not sure if I'm smart enough to know exactly what that says lol

Awesome build, thanks for sharing. How does it compare the Rip as far as suspension performance?

I'd like to know the answer to that too. Also, what size tire for a 43mm rim? 3 inch?
