29+ & 27+ / Re: Carbon Speed "CS-M04" 27.5+ FS w/boost

Had a friend help me build a workswell 29er, but this would be my first FS build.  What rear shocks would be compatible with this frame?  It doesnt seem like theres a ton of room for a shock there.

Do you think 140-150mm fork would throw off the geometry too much?

I am a big fan of getting the vendor to provide some custom paint, my IP-057 turned out really nice and adds a nice bit of customization for a low price.  It may depend on who paints your frame, my IP-036 wasn't painted quite as nicely as my IP-057.  Hopefully the paint work would turn out nice for you.

I hope so...i was originally going to paint it like a niner, and use the wording "chiner" in the same niner font (axiom regular)...but i didn't want to buy the font, and it just came off as almost racist to me (from an outsider/non mtn biker perspective), so that got scrapped.

I went with UD topweave with gloss coating to save money on black paint :D

not trying to derail, but I just purchased a frame (so no actual riding experience yet) but i did choose WCB-M-062 over this CS-041 in part due to the shorter chainstay's on the 62.  Something to consider, its basically a carbon copy of the stumpjumper world cup it seems.

Regardless if you chose IP-057 or IP-256, or even some other model, I highly recommend the following options when people order their frame:

Bottom bracket -->  My recommendation is to choose BSA if possible.
BSA has proven reliability, large bearing surfaces, works with most all crank options, no press tools required, far fewer instances of creaking or bearing problems.

UD/3K/12k carbon weave --> UD is said to be the lightest but is very plain looking (no weave), 3k is the typical, classic, tight carbon weave pattern and is what I like, 12k is a wide weave.  See picture below:

Matte/Glossy Finish:  This is personal preference, both look great.

Don't forget, many of the Chinese vendors will also paint your frame a custom color/pattern for around $75 extra.  Rather than getting a plain black frame, consider a custom paint job, they have some great colors available.

Two questions:

1.) My mechanic friend tells me PF30 is the better BB style to use.  Is it generally passed over by most due to needing press tools to install the cups/bearings?

2.) Are all of these bikes built with a UD base weave, then the top most layer is customized for the look of certain weaves?  I heard that UD was the strongest of the weaves, and thats why most new CF bikes are UD?

Just ordered my frame last night.  Paid an extra $40 for some custom paint...well see how it actually turns out.  I figure even if its sloppy, it will add "chiner quality" character to the bike...lol.  I will post some pics when I get the frame and while building the bike.

Still like it. Rides awesome.

Did you happen to buy any of the carbon fiber components when you bought the frame?  Things like the CF Stem, bars, seat posts etc?

Hi Dawnkeeper,

Do you have any news or updates regarding this frame?  I am considering building out the 098, but am struggling to figure out the differences between the two frames.  Is it more of an all-mountain bike, or is it more of a cosmetic difference?

Anyone riding the 098 model?  I'm trying to choose a FS 29er chiner frame, and would appreciate any feedback.

Hello,

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself as you may see me popping in for some questions here and there.  My name is Brian and I am trying to get back into mountain biking as a hobby.  I was very active in mountain biking 15 years ago, but life seemed to get in the way of all the fun.  Well i'm back and am eager to get started building a new bike.  I will be working on a 29er very shortly, and hope to hit the trails soon.
