Has anyone purchased a CS-156 27.5er from Peter at all? I ask because I have encountered an issue with the frame. Basically, the rear brake caliper is not sitting correctly. Even with different brake calipers, the frame's left seatstay is not allowing for any caliper to be mounted correctly or inline with brake mount bolts. I have emailed Peter numerous times peter@xmiplay.cn and I am not obtaining any resolution from him.

Did you buy your frame at XMIPlay ?
Peter is not working at XMIPlay for years, here is his email address: petercycles@foxmail.com
Sometimes there is an excess of paint or varnish and you need to gently remove it with a file for instance.
What brand of caliper do you try to put ?
I had once to file the inside of a Hope caliper hole to be able to align it correctly.
If you can, send a picture it helps better to understand.

Hello Carbonazza,
I have attached a picture of the issue. Also, thank you for pointing me in the correct direction to Peter. I just sent an email to Peter who I originally purchased the CS-156 from.

Thanks for the advice. I owe you one

Hello Javi,
Sorry, I have missed your reply.
Did you solve the issue finally ?
Could you provide other angles pictures ?

Hey guys,
My issue still isn't resolved. Peter told me to ask what type of brakes everyone else has used on their CS-156 27.5???
This is what my bike mechanic said:
If you look at any full suspension bike the brakes are mounted on the seatstay. I've tried putting on Avid bb5, Shimano BR315, Avid Juicy, and Magura. The brake caliper won't sit flush with the holes because the seatstay is preventing the brake to sit correctly. None of the rear brake calipers will sit correctly because the left seatstay is not allowing any caliper to mount correctly or inline with the brake mount bolts.
Any help is appreciated!

I'm sorry to read it isn't solved.
What diameter is the disc ?
Is it this disc size compatible with that frame without an adapter ?
-
The diameters of the rotor discs that have been tried are 140mm, 160mm, and 180mm. The caliper still doesn't fit.
Should the actual brake mount be on the seatstay and not on the chainstay?

Depending the frame. All disc sizes need an adapter but one the frame is built for.
I had a similar issue with my first build, as I didn't know an adapter was needed.
But here it is very strange.
Do you have a two piston caliper you could try to fit there ?
Should the actual brake mount be on the seatstay and not on the chainstay?
Most frames here, if not all, have the brake mount on the chainstay.
I think having read recently that for carbon frames the generally tiny seatstays aren't strong enough to handle the brake power.
-
Hello.... both 2-piston and 4-piston calipers have been tried to fit with no success. Also mechanical and hydraulic with no success.
What type of adaptor could be utilized? Thanks.
-
For instance if the frame is designed for a 140mm disc rotor.
You can use a 160mm with this adapter:

Hi Carbonazza,
I'll look into your suggestion. What type of caliper would be used with this adaptor? Thanks for your continuing support!
-
That is odd. At first I was thinking that it might be the caliper that is restricting the fit but you mentioned that you tried various calipers. Will the caliper fit with the wheel removed? It appears that the caliper is hitting the seat stay and restricting proper placement of the caliper??
-
Yes exactly! Even with the wheel removed the caliper does not fit. The caliper is hitting the seatstay and the seatstay is restricting the proper mounting of the caliper.
-
This is getting very strange.
Can Peter ask his factory, what they think?
What is the expected size of the rotor, and if anyone of his customer( you can contact for information ) mounted it without problem ?
-
I had a quick Google of the frame 156 and found the exact problem on this thread:
http://forums.mtbr.com/27-5/chinese-carbon-frames-650b-edition-820784-11.html
Search 156 or post #1092.
Some responses:
" I am running Shimano xt's. no fitment issues at all".
" I did find the single piston Magura MT6 does fit. I also contacted the product manager at ICAN cycles and he let me know the Shimano BR-M615 will also fit"
-
I have asked Peter for his help and he initially responded to my emails, but these past 2 weeks he has been silent. I have requested if he could ask his design engineers about what specific brake calipers should be used or if Peter can send me some pictures of a completed bike with brakes. Peter hasn't sent me any information. He told me to ask on Chinertown and on MTBr forums.
My Impression of Peter was that he was honest, but his recent actions are painting a different picture. :( All I want is his assistance to find the correct resolution. As of right now it appears there is a design flaw in my specific frame.
-
Thank you Gareth79! I will look into that caliper. I still am waiting for Peter and his design engineers to inform me on the specific brand(s)/type(s) they know will fit their frame. I sure hope Peter comes through!
-
My kid uses this frame from Shenzen though and have no problems with Shimano namely slx/xt 2 pots calipers. His frame is even smaller as its a 26er in 15.5in size.
-
I finally found a brake caliper that fits through much trial and error. Finding a caliper that fits on this frame should have been made easier by Peter and his design engineers. :(

Any chance you can post a link, details or description to make it easier for those coming after you?
