Re: My Waltly Ti frame #2 (29er) Took it out for a short trail ride. Experiences...

  • Sluggish start.
  • Pretty good climber, although I had to compensate a bit on steeper climbs as the front wheel likes to leave the ground. But I believe this is due to the fact that I am using a much longer fork (29+) that altered my front end angle.
  • The fit reminds me of my plus bike (CS-496), which I really loved.
  • Nimble & stable on descends.
  • Pretty fast on flats. Although feels a bit heavy on the rear.

I'm loving it.

E-Bike Forum Section? I've been going down the E-Bike rabbit hole lately and was wondering if there would be interest in adding a section to the forum? Not sure if there are any good direct from manufacturer bikes/parts available yet?

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts I also received my frame this week with a stunning (IMO) paint job. Minor paint scratch at the chain stay unfortunately but I'll live with it.
I will be building it with a RS SID Select RL 120mm fork and RS Deluxe Ultimate RCT 165x40 shock.
Carbon wheels from Speedsafe and mix of XT/SLX components. Should hopefully be able to hit ~11kg if my calculations are correct.

Re: Custom Steel frames, like Waltly does with Titanuim? If you want custom steel bike frames, my suggestion is to check your local bike builders. My personal experience is that you don't need to go far for reputable steel frame builders. It'll save you a lot of trouble & additional expenses like international shipping & custom duties/taxes.

But if you really want to pursue that, you can check out Ave Maldea, he's from the Philippines (where I'm from). Very well known & established here, and had done several frames for folks from different countries. He works with hi-tensile & chromoly steel, I believed he had worked with stainless steel as well. Practically a legend to Filipino cyclists. The bad news is he's swamped, like a 2-3 months turnover. And the COVID situation doesn't make it easier. I believe he can do a hi-tensile steel frame for under US$200. Not sure if that includes paint jobs though.

ZTTO 54T Star Rachet upgrade kit for DT Swiss hubs I just upgraded my DT Swiss 350 boost hub's 18T rachets with ZTTO 54T rachets. The ZTTO's cost me around US$32.60, comes with a pair of 54T rachets & a pair of springs. No special grease. I bought it from Lazada, it's our local equivalent of Ali-Express. Actually a lot of Ali-Express vendors are also there.

For about a third of the DT Swiss upgrade kit... well, we'll know if it's worth it a few months from now. Pics below of weight & some comparisons. Vendor's weight was pegged at 16.5 grams for rachets & springs. My scale showed 18 grams. DT Swiss 18T rachets & springs from my hubs we're 27 grams. 9 grams difference. For pics 4 & 5, I placed the 54T on top of the 18T to see if the 'grooves' aligns. Not perfect but they went in the hubs just fine. The upgrade was quite easy.

I wanted to put a video comparing the sound/noise of 18T & 54T but my cellphone's had problems picking up the sound.

Will update after a hundred kilometers. Oops, I mean after a thousand kilometers.

Re: Mountain bike idiot wants to build a cyclocross bike I'm a bit taller and 58cm frame is large for me. But that seems to be what osto recommends so if you just copy their geometry it should be good.
Waltly seems to be busy right now, so contact them as soon as you've decided to get a deposit in. Shipping price quoted was a lot higher than in the past ($150-300).

21mm inner 28mm outer is fine if you run 38 tires and never plan to go bigger, but I would consider 25/32mm.
Its a tradeoff of aero vs weight.
