Re: Bought the Dengfu M08 complete bike - I was in for a surprise.
I agree, re: handlebar. Should I angle it down or should I cut the fork more? Also my saddle is at the completely wrong angle.

Ah, that's the grease from packing the bottom bearing in the headtube, I missed cleaning that up before taking a photo/first ride.
Before cutting just lower the stem with spacers, than you can cut it, just find your position before

Re: Race oriented gravel frame? If you mention the Carbonda 505... why not the 505?
It is available again. It's just not directly visible on the webpage.
I have seen some 505 builds recently.
But it's not less than 1kg frame weight.  Mine is about  1250g for the painted frame in size S

Re: Shock hardware from aliexpress?
Thank you! I was looking at that one. Did you use it with one of the install tools they sell on Aliexpress?

I had a used tool from Wheels MFG for years in the workshop, but I didn't know what it was for.
One day, I found out it had exactly the right diameters to hammer out the bushings from shocks.
Then I use my usual hub press to gently install the bearing into the shock.

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame You can get a titanium 8x40 “Transition” shock bolt that fits from BetterBolts. I think they normally offer it as part of a kit for a specific model of Transition but you can custom order it separately from them by email.

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame As per my info, FM1001 has flat and quite "low" leverage curve. It needs air shock with a lot of progressivity (small positive chamber) and IMHO and above average low speed compression damping. Guys at Detrail are clearly aware -> they put small chamber & highly damped Ohlins TTX1 on their most expensive build. Also, for their "Berg" model they designed & created new rocker link and market its 30% progressivity (clearly a design objective to remedy problem of zero progressivity of the origianal).

Build Log - Carbonda hard tail for daughter's birthday. Well, my wonderful child has just turned 12, and having 2 parents over 6' - she has been growing like a weed.

She currently rides a Polygon Cleo 2 in XS that she got for her 8th birthday which has rapidly become too small for her.

After joining this forum, lurking and looking at AliExpress I thought it would be a good opportunity to use the collective knowledge of the forums and build my daughter a lightweight Chinese carbon bike!

My goal is pretty simple - I want to build a 29er bike that will last a good few years, and I want to to be as light (or lighter) than her current bike (XS frame, 27.5" wheels), I want it to be comfortable and capable on suburban streets, but I also want her to be able to to come riding with me on the MTB trails.

So I have started making purchases, and should hopefully have it ready to ride in a month or so.

Frame
I have gone with the Carbonda FM1306a.
I had sent an email to Wing last year enquiring about one of these frames for myself - but heard nothing back - that is when I found out that the emails had most likely ended up in my junk mail! Wing has been an absolute dream to deal with, super quick with replies, very detailed and helpful.
The frame ended up costing a bit more than I had hoped (US$230 shipping is a hard pill to swallow), and I also paid extra for the chameleon paint scheme as my daughter had requested it.

Fork
I was lucky to snap up a second hand RockShox SID off Facebook marketplace for AU$450. It was un-used, and taken off a 2024 Giant Anthem Advanced 29 3.

Wheels
I bought some EliteWheels off AliExpress - I will add more details later.

Brakes
ZTTO MTB Team Brakes in Silver and Gold.

I will update this post over the coming days with more information - been stuck busy at work...

Re: Miracle / MIRA FS822
Hi,

nice report! I was wondering what made you choose this particular frame, compared to brands with similar offerings that you know already (e.g., Carbonda 936 or 909)?

Cheers

Good question! Mainly geometry, reputation (Mira / Miracle have been around a long time) and... I always like to try something different. We already have a Carbonda in the house (my son's bike) and I've previously had an Airwolf. Both were great, but I wanted to try something else. I am also impatient, and other brands' similar frames were not in stock at the time. The final thing for me was the very good communication over WhatsApp.

The only issue about this frame is it doesn't comes with UDH dropout. We wish that they will come out with an updated rear triangle with UDH dropout feature!

Agreed. At the moment it's not an issue because I'm running Shimano, but the option would be nice.

Re: Build Log - Carbonda hard tail for daughter's birthday. The wheels arrived today - I am stuck at work, but managed to un box them and weigh them only to box them back up so my daughter can unbox them after school :D
