Re: Welcome to Chinertown - Introduce Yourself! Hi there, Ludo checking in. After some 25y away from mtb and outside of biking altogether expect for the stroll around one, I am seriously considering dipping back in with a chiner project of my own. I live in Houston so I’ll be going for a hardtail, trying to keep both weight and budget down. Right now leaning toward the SPcycle M06 frame (if/when L becomes available). I’m starting to have a fair idea of what I want to put around that frame with RYET 3D seat, carbon post, one piece carbon stem/bar, probably used Rockshox fork with 100mm travel, some Chinese origin 1x11/12 group set, Chinese brakes, carbon wheels (nova technology hub?)… the sourcing and assembly are just as appealing to me as the end product at this point.
Already found a bunch of info there, thanks to all who pave the way by testing and sharing feedback!

Re: Ultralight hardtails
I had an airwolf frame in large. I'd need to check the number but that was 786g new. Mine cracked relatively quickly but it was a lively bike to ride. In the end my build was 7.6kg rigid. Lots of others had good experiences with that frame but I never have good luck. Any carbon frame and Ti frame i've owned has cracked somewhere and none of which were chiner (except the airwolf).

I don't come on here often but I think i'll give that SPCYCLE frame a go. I have lots of parts on my cannondale flash which could go over to that frame and i plan to build some 1kg wheels with those carbon/ti spokes to see if they're any good.
Sounds like we should let you beta test then lol

Rockrider ST900 20" upgrade So I got that bike for my son a couple of month ago, great bike at that price
https://www.decathlon.com/products/kids-bike-20-st900?variant=39409795104830

but suffers from the same issues as most of the kids bike:
-rotoshift, but he doesnt have the strength to rotate it (5yo), especially when loading the pedals
-gearing is for kids to mess around in driveway and paved roads, not on the trail

I had him testing mine and my wife bike thumb shifters, and that seems to work for him, so I'll upgrade to shimano TX 30 I think, it seems many people do that. For the chainring, it is currently a 34T I am thinking of changing to 32 or 30 so he can actually use more than the top two sprockets when riding on a trail. I am kind of tempted to move to 30T with shorter crank to gain some ground clearance too (135-140 instead of 145mm).

Anyone's done that and has some feedback?

Re: Rockrider ST900 20" upgrade Thanks for thorough answer! You have me doubting on crank length, I’ll check that when I get home!

Re: Rockrider ST900 20" upgrade So it is 145mm, and square hole crankset. Off to AliExpress to try and find some 30/32T with 120/130mm cranks (10%of his height according to this http://www.bikesmithdesign.com/Short_Cranks/cranks4kids.html) Crankset is one piece so no choice but replacing cranks too…

Re: Groupset News It’s juste the pace at which market moves and investors expected returns. It’s quick and easy to get a product that works 95% of the time, let the early adopters be the beta testers. Look at Tesla, and to a certain extent, bmw/VAG/Mercedes, they are not what they used to be in term of dependability because of that forced development pace…
