Re: Wax your chain or die tryin I switched to waxing about 6 months ago and I love it. I ruined my first cassette and chain on my new bike after 1000km because of heavy wear of the oiled chain. Cassette was beyond saving so had to replace that one too.
That was when I decided to go for the waxing. I got a new cassette and 3 new chains. Degreased a with white spirit and alcohol and waxed in a cheap crockpot. I love it. I have a gravel bike so do some offroading and you have to rewax a little more often. 200km I gues.. But I just swap out the chain with a clean one and when all 3 are used I rewax all at once. Going strong for 1700km now.

The big plus is that is indeed A LOT cleaner. Before waxing I had to use degreaser on my bike to get everyhing clean. Now soapy water is enough.

Re: ZRace Disc Brakes After about a year with the ZTTO brakes, I must say they are really bad. I have changed the pads to metal a long time ago and that did give some improvement, but nowadays the brakes are simply dangerous. Yesterday there were 2 times during a ride I was afraid I would miss a corner because the brakes were so bad...

I am fed up with the ZTTO brakes and have now ordered the Onirii BR-05 brakes. These should be an improvement over the old BR-02 brakes. Will keep you updated when they get here...

My experience with the Ztto Xd 11 Speed Cassette 9-42T In summary: Do not buy it...

I got the first one when I built up my gravelbike about a year ago. After 1000 km chain and cassette were worn so bad I had to replace both...

I then got 2 new cassettes (the same ZTTO ones) for both my wheel sets, thinking it was my fault for not checking the chain sooner... I also started with 3 new chains that I wax and rotate every couple 100 km. I only used one cassette that I switched between wheelsets.

So after about 2000km the cassette is not worn yet, but is starting to make a lot of noise. Really loud creaking. Took me a lot of time before I found out it was the cassette. After reading the reviews on Ali I do not seem to be the only one... (but most of the reviews are very positive because when the cassette starts creaking you can't leave a review anymore). The problem are the rivets that hold the cassette together come loose and there is play in the cassette and this starts to make a lot of noise.

I had the other new ZTTO cassette laying around so I put that one on with a new chain, hoping I would be released from the noise for at least some time... But the first ride this cassette also started to make a really loud noise every pedal stroke. It really drove me crazy. I have since ordered a SRAM 10-42 cassette, but in the meantime I applied a lot of oil to the cassette and the previous 2 rides it has been silent. But it will only be a matter of time...

When this cassette starts to make noise I will bin all the ZTTO cassettes, mount the SRAM cassette and never look back...

Financial analysis: 3 ZTTO cassettes at 45€ each vs SRAM cassette at 85€ is not really a lot of savings...  :-\

Re: ZRace Disc Brakes So yesterday the BR-05 brakes arrived and they look like indeed a step up from the old ones. The "lever" is longer, so i guess there is more force on the cilinder. Another great thing is the construction and setup is different which make for a better fitting of the calliper in my small size 52 rear triangle. I was fearing the slightly bigger new calliper would not fit, since the ZTTo once only barely fit, but the lever of the new calliper falls on the inside of the frame so the small angle of the rear triangle is no longer a problem.

I only tried the brakes on my driveway and the front one already seems a lot better than the ZTTO one...

I managed to f*ck up the rear brake by contaminating it with oil so I can't comment on that one. I was trying to get some (...a lot) of oil in the cable housing of the rear brake because the movement between cable and housing seemed rough and I guess it must have gotten on the calliper and pads... Turns out my rear brake cable was also worn where it enters the frame in the front, so I immediately ordered a compression-less Jagwire brake-cable set (the old was not compression-less) I am going to install in the next days. I will keep you updated...

Re: ZRace Disc Brakes So, I did my first ride with the new Onirii BR-05 brakes. 100km on asphalt... The front one is still with the standard housing and pads. For the rear one I used the compressionless housing and metal pads. They are a HUGE improvement over the old BR-02 brakes. In the past I was never able to lock up the rear wheel not even on gravel. With the new brakes, I have to modulate braking to NOT lock up the rear wheel.

The front brake is not as strong, so I guess this will be because of the pads and/or housing. But they still work nicely.

Re: Black Friday There will be sales on Aliexpress starting tomorrow. Elitewheels normally has some promo's, but don't expect too much :)

You should be able to find sensah parts cheaper from tomorrow. There is also 5 USD off for every 30 USD spent (max 15 usd) so that will give some extra savings.

Re: ZRace Disc Brakes Did my first offroad MTB-tour yesterday. 40km offroad and afterwards 30km road to get home. Still no complaints about the new brakes...

Re: Chinese forks
After taking a chance on a bolany boost 100mm fork for an xc build (no jumps or drops) as it's weight is quite impressive (1800g or so), for just under 130euro. Most likely pure shit but it's worth a shot on a bike that will only be used for longer less demanding rides.
First thing I'll do though is dismantle it and grease the inners (I'd assume no point putting oil in the lowers as it won't hold

Any feedback?

Re: ZRace Disc Brakes Another update after a 50km MTB ride and a 130km road ride with 1500HM...

I changed the pads in the front to metal and this also has made a very big difference. Still very happy with the BR-05 brakes :)
