Re: Forum name?
Is Chinatown offensive?
Although I don't really know what "Chiner" is supposed to mean in this context though..

It comes from 29er I think.

Titan Cycles - Gravel frames In my pursue of getting a gravel frame, i have considered carbonda cfr696 and china made custom Ti (Waltly or Titan). What im looking for is probably a road bike with bigger tyre clearance (40c), and of course with tweaked geo to make it more stable off road. This sorta rule out cfr696 as it looks like a pure all out gravel frame. So i have decided on Titan cycles. Waltly was considered but they’re not taking orders so the decision to go with Titan came pretty easy.

I work with Eric on geometry details. I provided all info about the frame i have in mind  in my initial email and Eric did consider every little details into the drawing - i was quite pleased.

Geo was approved by me on 1jun2021 and i expect it to be completed and shipped by end of august.

I have decided on:
Sram force 22 mechanical (shifter, RD, FD, cassette, chain)
Praxis Alba X 48/32
Juintech GT-F
Fulcrum Rapid Red 5 wheels
WTB Riddler tyres
Shimano Deore spd pedals
Cane Creek 40 headset
Deda Zero2 stem and seatpost
Arundel stainless steel cages
Handlebar - undecided yet. Not sold on flared hbar if im honest. Maybe just 12deg of flare only?

Will post as and when theres updates!

Titanium Gravel bike: PYTitans build thread I felt tempted to build a Titanium gravel bike after checking the offers of on Aliexpress, I decided to pull the trigger on following PYTitans frame in October:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001085459477.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.7cfc1333bqHRlA

It took until beginning of January to arrive, but the seller was communicating clearly it would take more than two months for the frame to be ready to ship. Communication with the seller was good.
The weight including seat post clamp is just shy of 1600g.

Below some pictures of the frame.

Re: Himalo Frames? I stumbled across the odd e-bike build with it, as well as some very close derivative frames. Or at least frames that use some of the same base tubes. While I've not seen anyone openly raving about it, I've also not been able to find any complaints.

I went ahead and ordered one. Will keep everyone updated

Re: Himalo Frames? Frame showed up yesterday

Initial impressions: Feels pretty solid. Seat tube is 1.8" aluminum. Other sections are 1/4"

All pivots are sealed ball bearings like what you would find in a skateboard

no rattles or loose bits in the frame

The frame was tweaked about 2mm in shipping. Unknown if this will cause issue or not. Going to build it this weekend and determine more at that point.

Welds all check out. Some of the finish work regarding the paint isn't perfect, but it's nothing I'm concerned about either, especially in the context of a $300 frame.

Included headset is actually pretty good quality. Sealed bearing variety. Press-fit parts all have good tolerance.

The seller indicated that the fork should be 120-160mm, so I'm guessing it was designed around 140. I'll be putting a 160 on it.

Rear travel measures out at approx 130mm

My largest complaint during assembly was on one of the rear pivot arm for the suspension. There are some included shims for the bearings that are a bit fiddly to install.

Included hardware feels a bit cheap, not certain if it's stainless or just chrome plated. But it's nothing that appears proprietary. Looks like m4/m5 hardware.

I am concerned about the rear derailleur hangar. The positioning of the bolt holes appears that it might have a propensity to snap instead of bending. This isn't inherently a bad thing, however, I've been unable to locate a replacement for it thusfar.

Re: Is there a Chiner version of Whisky's Milhouse handlebars?
Topic pretty much says it all. I'd like to try these out but $235 is kind of steep. I've looked on eBay as well.

No sure about the Milhouse but there is a Surly Corner Bar copy made in the Philippines called the Kanto Bar

Re: Is there a Chiner version of Whisky's Milhouse handlebars? Searched: bmx handlebar carbon 31.8 on aliexpress. This isn't a copy of the Milhouse. The closest ones are for bmx 25.4 stems.

Hope this helps you find what you're looking for.  You'll have to figure out length sweep riser you need.

Re: Is anyone aware of a cheap/Chiner wheel dishing gauge? If you have a few tools, you can try making one.

Re: Is anyone aware of a cheap/Chiner wheel dishing gauge? I made my own as well using some scraps of particle board. It works quite well and I see no need to buy one.

Roger Musson has plans for an even simpler and better gauge in his wheel building book.

Re: Is anyone aware of any frame designers that would assist with a custom design? If you know your fit i.e. your preferred geo with stack, reach, STA, HTA, etc - your frame manufacturer can draw the frame for you. You can change and adjust until you approve the drawings. You’d be surprised the drawings is much more detailed than you can see from US or european builders.
