Hey all,
I've bought plenty off of AliX but usually don't spend enough at one time to warrant waiting for a good price on a particular item. Money is tight currenty but I'd really like to pick up a set of GRX 810 shifters and levers? Going rate on eBay is about $275-300 on the lower end after tax/shipping. I've lost 2-3 auctions now bidding in that range.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to best keep an eye out for a good price during the upcoming sales?

I'm not sure if it's going to happen though as the current AilX prices seem to be about $100 higher than eBay.

I'm still building my Framed CFR696 bike up. While bikepacking I ride in a lot of different conditions, some are pretty messy. Also, bikepacking bags can cause wear on a frames finish in pretty short order (dirt/grit/mud gets between the bags and frame and acts as an abrasive with the vibrations). On my last frame I bought a 3"x 30' roll of 14 mil tape from Amazon. That $64 roll is is not $73. Seems like there has to be some cheaper options.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the 8 mil thickness of helicopter tape? The 14 mil has held up very well but it was difficult to install in highly contoured areas like the bottom of fork arches and inside the chainstay arch. I'm thinking the 8 mil might be easier to work with. Granted, I've since learned to use soapy water and a squeegee and heat to apply it so I might get better results if I were to use the 14 mil again.

Component Deals & Selection / Need front derailleur recommendations
« on: April 11, 2023, 11:13:03 PM »
Frame is the Framed Basswood/Carbonda CFR696 which has provisions for a direct mount FD with cable routing for a downpull setup. I'd like to be able to run 2x rings in the 44 big / 28 small range. While I'm sure I could fab a workaround to use a clamp mount FD, the seatpost tube doesnt have a round profile in the this area.

Also, if anyone knows what the untapped third hole below and inline with the two tapped direct mount frames holes is for I'd like to know too.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi all,

I've finally settled on the specs on a friction shifted 2X mut of drivetrain for my do all bikepacking/commuter/gravel rig but I could use some help on a couple of key pieces.

Rear derailleur
I have a medium cage (GS) Shimano M8000 RD. I need the long cage version in order to make full use of its 47t capacity. I'm aware that I can buy the Shimano cage halves separately but I was wondering if there are some aftermarket options available. I'm aware of Garbaruk's offerings as well as the knock offs but Garbaruk specifically states that their cages are for 1x use only. I'm really hoping to find something with color options (purple would be great), an oversized pulley and, of course, 2x compatible.

Cassette:
10-42 Can be 10 speed or 11 speed. Would really like to find a microspline option as that is what I have and an XD driver for my I9 Hydra hub is $$. As far as XD goes, I do know Sram makes the 11s XG-1150 (396g and approx. $85). I thought I recently saw a Sram 10s 10-42 option but, if that is the case, I can't seem to find it now.

Any help?

Check my Pinkbike link for pics... https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3391755/

Located in Wichita, Kansas, USA

Price includes CONUS shipping and secure transaction fees.

Unused take off, 110mm (boost) spacing, fits up to 3” tires on 29” rims. Steerer tube is 8-7/8" (225mm) long. If you look up the serial number on the Rockshox site it’ll indicate that this is a 2017 model. The manual in the link also infers that this was a current design until at least 2021. Got a chance to use one of these at a bike shop. They're pretty dang nice but $150 for an 8 piece set is a deal breaker. Even the knock offs on Amazon are $70. Has anyone seen anything similar?

It seems the Chinese titanium build houses are pretty decent at building what you ask for. But what do you do if you don't know what you want? There are a few European outfits that specialize in the design work and then contract the manufacturing to the Chinese to build their custom designs. The issue with using them is that someone like Spanner Bikes wants the equivalent of $2200 USD plus whatever the shipping charges would be from the UK. Other outfits can do the same thing for significantly less so it seems that there is some money to be saved by dealing directly with the manufacturers.

I'm in a unique position of having engineering drawings for a custom design but I'd like to change some of the details on the front triangle (fork A-C and stem length mostly) and still maintain the same fit. Even on a a well planned Chiner budget a custom frame is still a big purchase for someone like me. I'm willing to pay some to make sure the fit is as good as possible but I'd also refer not to double the price of the frame just to get some experienced input.

Thoughts?

The available wheel dishing gauges seem a little overpriced for what they are. Seems like such a simple tool would lend itself to something you could easily find on Alibaba. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck locating one. Any help?

Topic pretty much says it all. I'd like to try these out but $235 is kind of steep. I've looked on eBay as well.

Fat Bikes / Chiner carbon fat fork options?
« on: January 28, 2020, 03:37:13 AM »
I'm looking for a fork comparable to Lithic's carbon fat fork. I see several options on eBay does anyone know of any that check all of these boxes:
1) approx 485mm axle to crown height
2) 51mm offset
3) T800 carbon
5) 150mm through axle

It seems all of the options are either 45 or 56mm offset

https://otsocycles.com/collections/lithic/products/lithic-carbon-fat-fork
680g with uncut 275mm steering tube
15mm through-axle x 150mm hub spacing
Tapered steer tube, 1 1/8"-1 1/2"
Max tire clearance 26 x 5.0
485mm axle to crown length (suspension corrected for 100mm Rock Shox Bluto)
51mm offset

Hi,
I tried to search and couldn't find anything definite. I recently received 4 rims from Carbonspeed. They look great but I haven't been able to find any tension specs for them. I've built wheels before and realize that this info is typically supplied by the manufacturer. Communication with Peter at Carbonspeed hasn't been the most reliable so I thought I'd check here first to see what you guys thought before I contact Peter and possibly wait for a response that may never come.

If it makes any difference the wheels are

29er / Need recommendations for Chiner 29er carbon rim
« on: March 05, 2019, 02:58:00 PM »
Short and sweet:
I'm looking for a vendor to supply an offset, 29-30mm internal, T800 rim.

TLDR:

I've emailed Farsports a couple of times. I got the usual short non-confidence inspiring replies. I asked specifically if a particular model of rim was made of T800 and the response was  "Yes, we made the rims with special material T800 to be Ultralite." Honestly I don't trust that to be the case so I'm reluctant to buy anything from them ...my spreadsheet says they don't have a non-T800 rim to fit my needs anyway.

I've pored over the 29" MTB rims on Carbonspeed's clunky site and couldn't find anything either.

In your guys' experience if a product is made from T800 do you expect it to be labeled specifically as such? As a retailer or manufacturer I would make it obvious to my customers. The material is more expensive but has advantages so it would be in the best interest of the seller to let folks know what they're buying in my opinion.

Hi all, I'm not well versed in all of the fat bike standards so I have several general questions about that which will hopefully lead me picking a chiner frame to build.

What I want (...or what I think I want unless you guys give me better advice)

Honestly I DO NOT think I want an actual fat bike, but I do want a bike that will provide LOTS of tire clearance (for fenders and mud) for up to 3" 29er tires.
1) Could I build a fat bike with either 27.5" or 29" and mount 3" tires on it? Realistically I'd more than likely run a 2.2-2.6 29" tire but I'd like the option to run a 3" and could buy a 27.5 wheel set if necessary.

It seems symmetric 170mm rear hub frames are the direction things are going toward now.
2) Is there a symmetric, hard tail, 170mm frame with a 100mm BB available?

Heck, for my needs I could likely do well with a narrower 142 or 146mm rear hub but I'm assuming they don't make a fat bike frame that will take such a hub.

Are there any other options I should be aware of? I'm assuming 100mm is the narrowest BB width for a fatty but my preference would be to go as narrow as possible.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Need vendor recommendation for hubs
« on: November 04, 2018, 04:37:12 PM »
Hi all,  this isn't carbon related but I'm guessing I could use something from the same vendors. Can anyone recommend a good brand/model hub set? Need a pretty standard QR 135 rear, 100 front, 10 speed and disc compatible. Needs to be gold anodized and preferably 36 hole. I've seen some options on eBay but I'm not sure about the quality of any of the given options so I was hoping for something with an established track record. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Aaron
