I find it interesting that I've had two Chiner bikes with BSA bottom brackets, around 3500 miles combined between the two bikes over the 2-3 years of ownership, and I never replaced the bottom brackets.  Everything was running smooth when I sold them.  Bottom brackets were nothing fancy, just $30 SRAM GXP parts.  I ride a variety of conditions from dry and dusty, to damp or muddy.  I wash the bike after really muddy rides or when it starts getting mud and dust caked on.

Same here! I have always used BSA bb on my Chiner frames both road and mtb and have never had to replace them. Plus i never experienced any creaking  ::)

The one concern i have is, given the fact the geometry is very similar to the Santa Cruz Tallboy 3 but doesn't have the VPP suspension, how is it going to handle and pedal? Is it just losing some of the pedal efficiency but most other characteristics are the same? This is why i'm cautious about being a guinea pig  :-\

Where is it possible to buy this frame? Can't find it on aliexpress

Their website is Workwellbikes.com.

I'm looking at this bike too! I currently have a CS-057 and love the bike but i'm thinking about having a FS again in my quiver. According to my research it has geometry very similar to the new Santa Cruz Tallboy 3 (except for the VPP suspension of course). The SC has received very good reviews as a one bike quiver killer on everything but the most extreme AM/Enduro drops. I'd hate to be the guinea pig but i might have to pull the trigger on one. BTW does anyone know anything about Workswell? I don't know anyone that has purchased from them..........

I'll third the remarks regarding the CS-057! I've had mine for about 4 months now and love it!!! The handling is crisp and precise for a 29er, something i was concerned about coming from a 26er FS. I feel the CS-057 handles better than my 26er ever did. Build quality of the frame is excellent and as many can attest to, Peter is very good to deal with. A comfortable thought considering you're sending money half way around the world..........

Any specific questions please ask or even PM if you'd like.

i am really fond of the Bontrager XR2... and it comes in a 2.35 (i measured it and it is right on 2.35...)

I've been reading all the reviews on the XR2 tire and it might be what i'm looking for. The question is width: 2.2 or 2.35......hmmmmm  ::)

So CD, since you are now riding a 29+ plus bike can you give a brief review on how it feels and what conditions it's best for? I did read that you mentioned after switching to it there's no going back  ::)

As always, thanks for the info CD! I'm still debating on whether making a change is viable. Some of what i'm feeling might be just the fact of being a hard tail. This is the first one I've ever ridden.

So, speaking of larger tires, any word on the new Stache copy that Peter has? Hell, if you're going to go larger might as well go to a 29+....no???

29er / CS-057 Tire Choices
« on: July 13, 2016, 04:08:08 PM »
Hey all,

I recently built a CS-057 and have been riding it for a few months now. I have to say i love the bike!!! Coming off a Giant FS 26er is like night and day  ;D

One question i have is with tires. The bike now has Maxxis Ikon 2.20s front and rear. There are times where i feel i need more plushness or versatility. I built the bike as a XC bike but to be honest, i mostly do trail riding with it. I do have rear grip issues especially on roots and rock (more so when they're wet). I am thinking about switching to Maxxis Ikon 2.35s front and rear. I hear they are a much different tire than the 2.20s. My thought is the extra volume might be just what i'm looking for. Help make the bike a more "trail bike" than a pure XC bike but without losing too much in the speed/efficiency department.

Also I've been reading about how some people classify XC bikes in 3 different categories: XC, Aggressive XC and Trail. Does anyone have any thoughts on these classifications? I guess in a perfect world i'm trying to turn my bike into an Aggressive XC or even a Trail bike. Makes sense???

Hey everyone,

Just completed a new build of a 29er hardtail from Carbon Speed CS-057! Peter was an absolute pleasure to deal with and the transaction went flawlessly. Peter was very professional and took the time to answer all of my questions without hesitation! The best part was it only took roughly 8 business days for delivery and i was pleasantly surprised as i ordered a road bike from another manufacturer that took over a month. Packaging was great and the frame was perfect when it arrived. The build list is as follows:

CS-057 frame large
Sram X9 1x10 drivetrain
Raceface Turbine DM crank
Raceface full carbon cockpit
Easton EC90 wheels
Maxxis Ikon tubeless tires
Shimano XT brakes
Xfusion Trace 100mm fork

Haven't put much time on her yet but so far it has been awesome!!! The frame is so stiff and all of your energy goes towards propelling you forward. This is my first time on a hardtail so i'm adjusting to that but, the ride is not harsh at all. It is very damp and quiet. I was expecting to loose some agility compared to my 26 fs but i must say it is actually more agile! There has not been much of an acclimation period. I've felt comfortable form the first time i rode the bike. Very happy with my purchase and i'm looking forward to many fast miles ahead!!!

29er / Tubeless Tires Discussion

No worries with ranting...lol! That's what forums are all about  ;D

I am appreciative of any advice i can receive or give. There is no such thing as too much knowledge! My wheels are Easton EC90. They are a UST specific made wheel. No holes for spokes. Seals the tire with just a hand pump. The tires are Maxxis Ikons and are also supposed to be "tubeless ready". They do offer an extra protection version which i did not get because i don't live in an area with thorns and such. Hind sight being 20/20, maybe i should have sprung for the extra protection. I'm not that much of a weight weenie so the extra weight would no bother me. Live and learn i guess  :-\

Good news though. The front tire seems to be holding pretty well. I added an ounce yesterday right before a ride and it seemed to hold pressure all through the ride. This morning it's a little soft but not flat. I'm riding tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. You're right about the patience part. I'm trying not to get too frustrated with the process but i figure if it pays off in the end i'll be happy not running tubes. I already prefer it!

How much sealant did you put in?  Maybe add 2 oz. more to help the sealant flow around the bead.  What type of sealant are you using?  Sometimes, if the sealant gets under the rim tape, you will not be able to get the tire to hold air, if that's the case you will need to break the wheel down, remove the old tape, clean the rim with some alcohol, and install new tape.

Well the situation is this, these are UST rims which do not use tape. There are no holes in the rims except for the valve stem. Getting the tires to seat was no problem. I was able to accomplish that with just a hand pump! When i realized the tires were leaking air i put them in a tub of water to expecting to find the beads leaking. To my surprise they were bone dry. All of the air was seeping through the tire itself  :-\ The tire is actually porous especially the sidewalls. Reading some blogs online it sees to be quite common. I used 3 ounces originally and am going to put in another ounce today before a ride. We'll see what happens.........

I have not been on the bike since i used the sealant so hopefully some riding will help. I'm using Stan's sealant.

Welcome adbl, glad you like your CS-057, I built mine about 3 years ago and it's still going strong.  As for tubeless tires, make sure you shake and spin the wheels around flipping them over and doing so on both side.  It's good to also leave them lying horizontal for a few ours, flipping them occasionally.  If they hold air overnight they should be ready to go.

Please post a picture in the 29er picture thread when you get a chance.

Yeah, I've been doing the rotation sequence every few hours. The front seems to be sealed up pretty well but the rear is almost flat after pumping it up last night around 7:00pm. I purchased Easton EC90 wheels and Maxxis Ikon tubeless ready specifically for tubeless use. They are both supposed to be UST specific. This is my first venture into the tubeless realm so i'm learning as i go along.

Hey everyone!

Just joined today and am happy to announce i just finished building a CS-057 carbon hardtail!!!
