Title: Yishunbike R1058-D
Post by: Goe on May 28, 2023, 03:49:27 AM
Hi All,

I have pulled the trigger on pre-ordering this [/https://www.yishunbike.com/product/r1058-dperformance-road/] .

Melinda tells me it is still in development but that it has passed their quality test and will be dispatched in 3-4 months. It's 1070g for a 54cm so is pretty light, they advertise a lighter version at a claimed 900g for 54cm which would put it in roughly the same category as a seka exceed for a third of the price. However, Melinda tells me this version did not pass the QA tests and anyway requires a minimum order of 10 units, I expect this version to be available next year. It lists something called 'One-piece 3D latex mandrel' aswell as one-piece molding which I assume is how they will achieve the lower weight, this feels like a new technology and evolution from EPS? Anyone know anything about it?

Yishun say: 'The newest latex 3D mandrel monocoque technology improves the strength by up to 30% when using the same material due to the smoother inner wall without wrinkles inside.'

'700c Full Carbon Performance Road Bike Frameset

– One-piece monocoque moulding

– One-piece 3D latex mandrel

– Fully internal cable routing design

– Max Tire 700*30C

– Max Chainring 55-42T'

Looks-wise I think it resembles an SL7 with slightly more relaxed geometry. The resemblance is not surprising after reading on their website that 'The R&D product chief manager had worked as one of the product managers in the Specialized OEM frame factory for 6 years and gained experienced skills in designing and producing carbon frames.' I'm guessing this would be Ten Tech Composites?

They also say that they OEM for '-several well-known brands around the world, such as RIBBLE, BERRIA, MENDIZ, MAGEMO, BOTTCCHIA, DEROSA, and so on…' which is encouraging.

On paper this should be a great frame, however it's obviously a bit of a gamble and the first frames in particular may have issues however it appears like they have solid quality control and testing aswell as warranty. You can pay 20% more to get a 5 year warranty which is a nice touch assuming it will be honoured if something doesnt go to plan so I have opted for this option.

Standard version without handlebar and 5 year warranty: 718usd, shipping 185usd, there are also different charges for payment methods. 5% paypal charge and 30usd bank transfer charge. Will update along the way if anyone is interested.

Fingers crossed!

I generally like the geometry of this one. However, I would like it better if there was higher offset fork option or even better if they made the fork with multiple inserts so the could vary the offset/rake across the size range from 45-50mm

If they OEM for Ribble does that mean they could potentially create the same frame+handlebars as the Ribble Ultra SL R?

Looks good. Would you mind sharing the cost + shipping?

I've been casually eyeing their R086-D frame for a while (402 reach 549 stack for a size 54  :o)

Would prefer a frame with a lot of reach rather than using a long stem. Thanks!

@patilean: I ordered a R086-D a few months ago. The price was €715 incl. prepaid tax shipping, extra spacers and derailleur hanger.

The quality was excellent, but do keep in mind that the stack measurement doesn't include the headset top cap, which is about 15mm.

Yes I paid similar. 758usd without handlebar. Would be about 100usd more with the bar. Shipping was 185usd. This model is a bit more I’m told because of the one piece moulding, 3d mandrel technique. I also paid more for 5 year warranty (20% more). UD gloss was 20usd more than Matte also, not sure if they just made that up though

Yes quite possible! I was trying to find this out actually. I may ask them directly but it’s certainly possible.

I have been trying to contact them and have been ghosted at least 3 times

@Goe @curvenut

Pic below. The build went smooth. I only struggled to get the Di2 cable through the chainstay, but that was because the guide tubes were removed before painting. Other than that, no issues whatsoever.

@neobiker For me, they usually reply after 1-2 days, expect during holidays. What exactly are you asking them about?

I wanted to ask for the pricing of the R1088-D.

They replied to me over WhatsApp: it is not available to individuals…  >:(

I received a similiar answer. "R1018, 1058, 1088-D, frames, we do not open to retail orders."

So I asked for R068-D instead and received the following..

Many new models we sell to wholesale customers actually, R068 as well.
But since R068-D we have frame stock on hand.
Unit price USD609/set (frame/fork/seat post/clamp/handlebar/headset/front and rear skewers/stopwatch holder)
I suggest to add one spare rear derailleur hanger: USD10/PC
WXY delivery cost with prepaid duty taxes: USD85
Paypal fee 5%
Total amount is USD739.2

Really curious about the "stopwatch holder" :D

@neobiker: Yishun is a really big OEM. If they create new models, those are initially open to OEM customers only, as they take up all the capacity anyway. Only when initial OEM demands die down, do they become open to retail customers.

@ENEP: Yeah, "stopwatch" is just bike computer :D It's just the standard carbon mount. Works fine, but it's easy to overtighten the little screws that hold in the adapter plate (for switching between Garmin, Wahoo, etc).

How long do you usually have to wait before the demand dry down?

It would also mean we should see some of the frame in some OEM maker soon

Hey! Sorry for the slow reply. I did ask them directly and they refused to tell me hahaha. They confirmed that they oem for Ribble but said they couldn't tell me which models, they even asked me where I'd heard about them producing for ribble (their own website lol) and asked to send them the link. Their reaction actually made me think that they probably do make this model, either way you wouldn't be able to buy the bars by the looks of it unfortunately.

This is interesting! hadn't thought of that. I wonder which brand and model my 1058 will become hahah. Interesting you can't order it for retail now. They must have enough on their plate. I emailed asking for photos and they said they didn't have any yet still.

For anyone that's interested I asked them the type of carbon they will use on this model and the said a mix of T700 and T800. Headtube, dropout, BB, joints of top tube, seattube and seatstay are made of some T800 is what they told me.  I assume it is the same across their otehr newer 2023 models. I know that the older lightcarbon models are T700

@neobiker what the attraction to the 1088? Do you prefer it over yishun r086d and why? Did you ever get the 1088 and if yes how is it. They now offer it for individual sale

It looks like a Pinarello Dogma F.  ;D

It is also less aggressive than the 086.

Yes, I ordered a size 53, and they should send it to me tomorrow

Hello,

What's your height in CM? I do plan to order Yishun 1088-D. Other choices are R086D and LightCarbon LCR0XD. I am planning to rule out R086D because it's very aggressive and my body might not like it even if i go to a bikefitter but I want to know more information about 1088-D before ordering because I am also confused on their sizing. Closest to the geometry that my current bike has is size 560 (which has CF of 530) so I am really confused right now lol.

BTW I asked if their frame 1058-D is available but here's the response from Melinda

"Dear friend,
Pity that R1058D size 54cm is still not available.

The mold has a small problem, we are now still repairing it in order for smooth production running.

Best regards,
Melinda"

178cm, 83cm inseam, rather flexible. I basically went with the geometry of a bike I already have and that I like. [BMC Teammachine SLR02 size 54]. I went with a smaller size than recommended, because recommendations are usually too big.

Thanks for the response!

So base on the geometry sizing, you ordered Size 530 right?

Ey looks like we are looking at all the same frames. The geometry table for the 1088 seems to have a mistake in it, so I'm just clarifying with them. Will update here when I hear back from them.

Ello, My R1058D has finally arrived. Size 59cm. They also said there was a month delay because of that mould issue. Ordered about 4 months ago. Ordered in gloss black. Ordered without handlebars (plan to order the lightcarbon superlight T1000 bar as it is the same price but lighter and they are all made in the same place anyway). Comes with thru axles, compression plug, headset, spacers, seatpost thingy. Quality is great, everything has been faced and masked when painting. BB is perfect. Theres a small amount of roughness in the headtube which I will sand, asked Melinda about this and she said it is ok. Plenty of clearance. Photos with a 28mm tyre.

@Geo has the light carbon handlebar worked with that 1058 frameset? Though I like the weight, the shortest one is 40 cm when I would prefer a 38 cm
Title: Re: Yishunbike R1058-D
Post by: Goe on December 08, 2023, 03:54:20 AM
@chughes  So I actually went through the same dilemma and wanted a 38cm bar assuming Lightcarbon made them as they do in the other bars but the superlight one only went down to a 40cm. I went on the hunt for a different bar and ended up settling on a random one on aliexpress with good reviews which has arrived. I'm really pleased with it, it's very very still, has the grip dimples on the tops like an EXS bar and was also the cheapest option. The reach and drop were good and it's only a -6 rather than -10 so fits well with the measurements from a bike fit I did. I'd recommend. I' m going to see if I can remove the weird logos somehow (acetone, heat gun/hairdryer) because the look a bit shit and the rest of the bar looks great and finishing is great.

In terms of ride and feel, it's not been built yet, I have been sourcing other parts and tools but will be building soon.

Yes went with the sep bar stem from Yishun. However would go the one piece route if there was substantial weight saving and ofcourse good quality.. There is  Avian Falcon II Integrated Handlebar which is about 285 grams in comparison to Yishun's 410 gram. Problem is they have informed me that they do not offer the headset spacers for it to fit Yishun frameset

Well, today I received the first pictures of my frame, paint job was done by Yishun and don't ask how I got them convinced to do so ;)
Unfortunately I am not able to upload the pictures as attachment, so here are the links to my drive.

Design was inspired by: Pinarello Dogma F Framekit 2023 Disc Electro Violett

I will share the complete build somewhere end of January when frame has arrived and I will share my first thoughts and more pictures while building as well.

Stay tuned!

So the build went pretty well, I had some minor issues inside the bottom bracket area, which I provided to Yishunbike for a safety check, but it seems that these are only Resin bubbles on the connection from the back triangle & I had to sand down the headset plastic bearing cover as Patrick did on his Yishunbike.

Overall I can confirm the build quality and facing on all relevant areas. The bike is very well made. The paint job which I get Yishunbike convinced to do is fantastic, no spots or anything compared to the paint job I get done by my other Yoeleo G21 bike!

Due to weather conditions I could only ride 150km on my Tacx Neo, but it feels quite stiff when putting 1.200 Watts on the pedals. I hope I can get outside soon and will update my ride feel accordingly.

I am 193cm tall, 93kg, 91cm inseam, 59 size on my R1058D with 110 stem length and it fits pretty good to my measurements.

Do you have a build breakdown? That's a beautiful bike! That was my first choice from Yishun but the size that I want was not available

I've not made pictures during the build. What are you interested in?

BTW Kitty mentioned if I've done my build I should spread the word and she will make sure to get what you want from Yishunbike. Well...let's see if you could count on her, but worth a try. In case of interesst I could DM you my name for reference when exchanging e-mails with Kitty.

Would you mind telling us what the final price of the frame (+paint+shipping) was?

Like the breakdown of parts that you've used and the wheelset. I already have a Yishun agent (Melinda) and she's really nice and helpful. I ordered R086D and RSL50D wheelset from her.

Shipping cost is from china or did you order from yishun gmbh as i saw you're in europe?

Can you potentially put 32 tires or 30 is the max as advertised?

By the way i'm waiting for the first ride review of this frame ;)

Shipping costs from China. you could order via the German entity but this would cost you more for the parts due to different taxes as yishun would ship from China to their entity then forwarding it towards you.

32 will fit easily.

I will give you a ride review when ice & snow are gone  ;D

Finished the build this week and took it out for the first spin today. Feels stiff and responsive without being uncomfortable. Fast on the flats . Really solid overall and pleased with it. The build went pretty smoothly, was a bit of a nightmare internally routing the handlebar however it wasn’t a Yishun one. There was a very small amount of paint overspray on the rear calliper mount that I sanded easily and was fine .

I had to sand down the headset plastic bearing cover as Patrick did on his Yishunbike.

Mine had a huge gap, too. Until the headset was compressed and it went away entirely.

If you've sanded it, might be worth checking that you're getting enough compression and your fork isn't knocking. Hold the front brake and move the bike back and forth and make sure there is no play.

Thanks mate, no play at all. I've had too much compression, so that the first plastic bearing cover got stuck on the frame, now it works perfectly.
Meanwhile I did 400km on the Indoor Trainer and wow am I looking forward to bring it outdoors.

Do you know the weight of your frame / fork / seatpost
Thank in advance

I haven't weight the individual components as for me with 94kg it's not really relevant. ;)
I ordered the normal version; but as my final build with a mix of Sram RED, Force components is at 7,8kg I would guess it's close to what's mentioned on their website.

Ah nice. Mine was a bitch to compress. Used a quick clamp in the end, which got it sorted.

Thr first top cap I sanded just a bit and it ended up too close to the frame. The next one I didn't touch and it lines up well.
