I also tend more to aluminum. Any brands or frame models to recommend? They don’t seem popular on alibaba

Hi all

I’m looking for the cheapest options of gravel frames including shipping below 400-500 USD.
It can be alloy, can be heavy, but it needs to be of good quality (safety).

Any ideas? To be clear, I mean the lowest pricing segment, ideally significantly below velobuild and co.

Cheers and ride on

Is there any risk in running non-SRAM batteries?

Any references for chain catchers? Preparing for my 2-by Sram red AXS gravel build...

There's the carbon fiber one for very cheap, light af, but it's attaching the chain guide and front derailleur with only one screw - not sure whether that's really an issue

Wherease there's the heavier and slightly more expensive product below, uses 2 different screws for the chain guide and the FD:

Or this one which is still light...

I'll run 30/46 chainrings so another question is whether this would even be effective with such small chainring.

I have not used Uno stem on internal routing frame (GF002) but I can imagine its going to be a pretty ill fit. For one, the spacers are kinda rectangular shaped to accommodate for the cables to go thru them. Are you trying to not route cables through the stem but still hide them somehow? Look at FSA SMR ACR stem and Kocevlo spacers underneath to almost fully conceal the cables.

Yes that's what I was aiming for. And there's one more complication: I want to keep the flexibility of adding stem-mounted aerobars (FALCON MINI CLIP-ON (Stem Mounted)) for ultra distances.

Your proposed FSA SMR sounds great indeed!
Do you have experience with it? Would you expect that the FSA SMR stem+cable channel could be clamped with the aerobars (max 5nm)?
Looks like the cable channel is also made from alloy and is screwed into the stem, so it looks stable at least...EDIT: just called FSA and they confirmed that the cable channel's made from plastic.. so not really an option for clamping an aero bar on it unfortunately.

The visually sub-par Uno stem combo would work for sure with the stem-mounted aerobars, routing the cables below/around the aerobar clamps.
But yes I guess it will look a bit ugly, the Kocevelo spacers would be at least 6mm wider than the Uno stem... and I'd need to drill 2 holes into the top spacer to let the cables in.
I found some ppl at WW who run a "normal stem" like the Uno and route the cables internally into the frame afterwards. Looks surpisingly ok I think: https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=170873&sid=56ca16bdbbd72e2dc28b62bdfa46eb98&start=15

I'm a bit torn between the options now.
Considering the low price point of the Uno stem, I might also just give it a try. Curious to hear what you think  :)

Have you actually tested it?
It looks very fragile and I can’t imagine it would offer a lot of protection

Seeing this now. I have size 56 frame, if you are still waiting for these dimensions I will let you know by tonight!

Thanks coffeebreak! I received in the meantime:

For future reference, in size 56:
1. The inner top tube length measures around 48-50cm (it’s bent at the head tube)
2. The inner seat tube length is about 44cm
3. The inner down tube is around 58cm

A question regarding UNO Stem users with integrated frames:
How is that stem covering your spacers? Or how do you do it?

Especially if it’s a frame for fully internal cable routing like the vbr 168, 177 or GF002, I assume that the spacers would be misaligned with the stem on top, as in not perfectly overlapping/covering the spacers probably.

My plan is to use the Uno stem, drill 2 holes into the stock spacer on top  and then route the cables through the drilled  holes into the frame.

Alterntively, maybe sth like this could work? https://www.bike24.com/p2532375.html?sku=1819122

Component Deals & Selection / Re: 3D Printed Saddles

I think it’s more about Q factor and how your leg movement is spaced. When my legs go straight down, they ever so slightly touch the saddle nose where the bib wear appears. The riyet 3d saddles are wider than many non 3d saddles at the nose, that’s a fact. Whether it’s an issue or not could depend on your frame essentially and Q factor I guess

Im afraid I can report the same issue but nowhere as problematic as shown above

Did anyone mesure the frame triangle inner dimensions in size 56?
Planning on getting a full frame bikepacking bag, either off the rack or custom.
My frame will hopefully be on the way soon!

This RIRO 3d printed saddle has recently caught my attention. The honeycomb structure looks to be more robust than the Ryet/Lexon saddles available. I'd give it a try, but I already have too many saddles laying around.

Got this one and it’s firm in the back, softer in the front in summary.
For my liking, it’s still a bit hard in the back, but that might be due to my weight 68kg

Any take or experience on seatpost clamps?
Weight imo is secondary as primary goal is the seatpost never slipping into the gravel frame, potentially damaging it.

Options I discovered out of Carbon fiber (to avoid galvanic corrosion right away I didn't select any Aluminum parts)

My 2 cents on bottles and I don’t want to open a discussion about health here…

but with all concerns about BPA and it’s modifications and health concerns, I’m not exactly trusting entirely unregulated plastic bottle manufacturers from Aliexpress. I’m all in for unbranded Chinese products otherwise, but feel like that in this case it’s not exactly worth even the potential risk. After all normal branded bottles are so cheap in absolute terms.

I bought the 48-32 version - came warped from factory. Not minor either, you could see the rings weren't perfectly flat. Sent back. I have now ordered GXP to 110 BCD 5 arm adapter from Fovno. Just gonna use some good ol' FSA rings that were put out of commission by Pass Quest chainrings a while ago.
The adapter in question  - https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805156905073.html $8

Sorry to hear. I remember tracevelo also marked them as trash along some other brands.

Buying some spare 30-46 chainrings from Senicx sounds reasonable just to make sure.
