Title: Peter @ Carbon Speed, no replies
Post by: ro7939 on April 28, 2020, 03:55:17 PM
I want to buy a frame from Peter.  No replies to my emails 2 years ago; yesterday I messaged Peter @ FB, no reply.  Also noticed the last FB post is 2-3 years old.

Anyone know what's up with Peter?  (Love Peter's wheels I got a couple years ago.)

What Chinese carbon frame do you recommend for these parameters?

Hard Tail
29+ (installing 2.6 "Wide Trail" tires on Peter's Carbon Speed rims which IIRC have 31mm internal width; I presume I need a 29+ frame, and 29 standard chain and seat stays are too narrow.
Boost hub
Tapered head tube
Clydesdale heavy weight rider (no/few jumps, moderate trail use)

Peter changed his job few months ago.
You'll need to look around here for another vendor.

Too bad for me, but hopefully good for Peter.  I'm not surprised about Peter; too good to last.  My Carbon Speed wheel set cost half of retail replacement wheels.  Thanks very much for this info.  Can you recommend another vendor, or a specific sales person @ Carbon Speed?

Carbon Speed lists 4-5 "29er" models, none specify "+" or "Plus."  Only one specifies maximum tire width of "2.35" which is too narrow.

New OEM frames are too costly, and used are rare in my XL size.  The only known OEM frame w/my specs is Trek Stache Carbon (which I test rode and love).  Specialized makes Fuse Carbon HT 27.5+; 29 x 2.6 fits but more clearance is more bettuh.

I thought for sure at least one Chinese vendor makes a 29+ HT.

Finance wise I take a huge hit if I buy an entire bike; every component on my current bike is upgraded except the crank and frame.

My preferred seller for frames is now carbonda.com, serious and high quality frames.
They have the same 496 model, Peter was selling, but kind of hidden from their web site links:
http://www.carbonda.com/mountain/mtb/cfm496.html

You may ask directly to Wing at sales1@carbonda.com if they still make it, or have other options for you.

Sometimes these Chinese sites block vpn servers or if they think you are an ip from a vpn. It's part of that whole totalitarian regime restricting information access to the masses strategy.
