Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame I would like to say that I'm not at my first build, almost 10 bikes (road, MTB, chinese, branded, Dengfu, Cannondale, OPEN Cycle, etc...)

To resume, I cut the fork steerer under the top of the stem and when I put the expander there is more or less 3mm free, to the top of the stem, so enought to compress the headset.
There is no spacer installed under the stem.

For me this flex is coming from the stem

Apart from that, a photo of the bike under construction (size 56cm, color blue chameleon)

And a little hack on the seat post (gain 28gr)

My bad dude. Didn't mean to insinuate you didn't know what you're doing. Was just giving my observation.

I did,  however, go check my own bike, velobuild r099 , and actually I have a pretty similar amount if flex in the stem too. I guess it's been fine but for some peace of mind looks like I'm taking my own advice and getting the FSA  ACR headset and stem now
No worries Snacks, i understood  ;) ;). My goal was to explain my situation and my experience in bike building, just to say I'm not a noob  ;D ;D

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Hello was only a silent reader until now. I ordered 2 frames 168 from Curis are on the way. The video with the handlebars and that it is an experienced self-builder scared me. I already got an answer from Chris

I don't even know what that means exactly, I don't even see how it goes on

My handlebar is the new version HB011, with the two bolts.

Chris answered to me after my message with the video and picture, that is his response:

Hello

Thanks for the bar picture

Please rest assured the bar tested .The moving from video seems not locked tightly enough ,not bar flexibility

Chris

To be totally clear and honest, I decided to do cross-tests with different stems and handlebars (3T, rotor, ritchey, deda, chinese ...) and also to scrupulously reinstall the HB011 handlebars (with a few shims under the headset top cover and that make difference) . Of course, the HB011 isn't the stifer solution, but neither is it the worst that I have tried by far.
Finaly, I just finished the build an hour ago and did a quick ride of half an hour (15km and 320 D+).

Thus, this ride was short, but I can tell that:
  • I confirm the handlebar is not the stiffer one that I have tried, but honestly it's less worst than can be imagined with the video (I think this static test is not representative of the pressure aplly during the ride for my gabarit 67kg), it was not a big deal during the ride (of course that needs to be confirm with longer ride test
  • The Juin Tech GT-F brake are a good surprise, of course they need to be lapped, but the power and the feeling is good for me  ;D ;D
  • The wheelset Llightbicycle AR465 in Flyweight are very very good and responsive
  • I need to reajust the position of my saddle  ;) ;)
I hope these clarifications will help and reduce the doubt that I've maybe created to you and me :-\ :-\

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Do you have a link to the Chinese Ti Speed Play pedals you're using? Do you recomend them?
I bought these pedals https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002304240956.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.25176c37RuykzV
For the moment, I need to try them more and to lapp them, because currently it's really difficult to clip on

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame A quick return of experience after some rides, during the last one I lost one part of the bike who is holding the derailleur hanger  >:( >:(

I imagine there was not loctite on this scerw, so it is essential to put some on it to prevent this problem.

I've ask to Chris to send me this set of spare parts, I'm wating his reply.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
My suspicion is that if you change the wheel enough that thing will loosen up without Loctite, since I get a lot of flats in my region and I use a smart trainer, I remove the rear wheel many times a week.
That's not my case, I never removed the rear wheel since I built the bike.
In my case, I think that the cause is just the vibrations on the road.
