Re: LCFS947 - 160mm 4-bar 27+/29 Looks like a standard straight hanger, so it can take SRAM derailleurs directly or Shimano ones with the horizontal extender link that Shimano includes.

Re: AM831 competitors? Help knudge me over! I’m pretty sure that’s a typo and he really meant 230x57.5.

I’ve never heard of a 230 shock with less than 50mm stroke.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread! I could be misremembering — this is the stuff I’m trying to think through before I commit to one or the other — but I believe a 947 from Light Carbon is $620+100 shipping, whereas an 831 from the Tideace store on eBay is about $1000.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and have the money in time for an 831 group buy; I’m a suspension geek/gearhead of many years and would rather have that efficient low slung VPP swingarm.

I can probably learn to live with a 2.4 rear and the other little compromises the 831 requires….but I also have severe arthritis and do quite a bit of jumps etc despite it so a little extra tire is always appealing. And I’m trying to hit the value sweet spot with this build — being able to reuse a DPX2 Factory shock I already have on the 947 is hard to say no to. One less thing I’d have to sell in order to fund the build.

Since I’d probably be getting a Large, is the whole crown race spacer thing even an issue for me?

Re: Which crankset fits BB92 Bottom bracket for AM831? Probably the best option is a thread-together BB92, like the one Wheels Mfg makes. Reduces your chances of creaking. The only reason to get a regular press-fit is because they can accommodate a 30mm crank, whereas thread-together BBs are limited to 24mm.

Re: Modern geo. Fat frame? Keep in mind, fat geometry is a bit different than regular geometry. Particularly if you’re riding in ungroomed (or poorly groomed) snow.

You don’t want quite as much long-low-slack in that case because it will tend to get thrown off line, dig into the snowpack, and have huge float imbalances between the wheels (forcing you to manually balance the bike by leaning forward more or standing up). So if you’re new to fat bikes and are looking for “progressive” geometry, don’t get to attached to the latest enduro-like numbers. Something more balanced tends to be the most practical bike for snow riding.

Re: Which crankset fits BB92 Bottom bracket for AM831?
Guys,

This one already comes with a threaded BB but would the crankset work with a press fit BB92 bottom bracket?

thx!

Yes, that should work with any BB that supports a 24mm crank axle.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
I am buying a dvo topaz t3 from a guy who took it off his ibis, just fully serviced as well. Accessing the pump valve doesn't really bother me as I like to adjust the shock once and leave it as is haha..

The problem with that is that the bladders are known to lose air slowly over time so you have to top them off every few rides, or at least once or twice a month, just to be sure.

But if you’re able to figure out a solution we’d be very interested to hear about it. Right now my next best alternative is either an unknown tune Super Deluxe Select+ off Ali for $422, a 2018 Bronson tuned (Low damping) 210x55 Super Deluxe Ultimate for about $600, or a stock Medium tune Fox Float X for $520 (Performance Elite)-$600 (Factory). Not really sure where to get a custom tuned Fox shock out of the box these days, and it’s hard to find even the default tune 210x55 in stock right now.

I’m looking for something to pair with a Marzocchi Z1 most likely, and want a piggyback with a good damper (so no RS Select or Fox Performance stuff, only Select+/Performance Elite or better) but I’m trying to keep this build under $4000 without cutting too many corners….so being able to use any old 210x55 Topaz would be nicer than any of the other options I see so far. Who knows when the second generation T3 will be available.

Re: How to know which shock mounting hardware?
From searching this site, looks like others are actually using ones that are larger than what the dealer is saying.  They're saying using these two.

1. M8x22.86 - https://thelostco.com/products/the-real-2021-fox-mounting-hardware?variant=32303772631121
2. M8x30 -  https://thelostco.com/products/the-real-2021-fox-mounting-hardware?variant=32303770370129

Let me know if this is incorrect.  Thx.

I stand corrected, 22.86 (aka 8x23) should be the right size.

Re: Lexon "Riot 10"
As mentioned from my earlier post, I plan on carrying over some components from Specialized Crave:
-Reba fork, going to upgrade the shaft so I can run it at 120mm vs the 100mm (trying to decide wether to upgrade the damper to the charger or not - kind of expensive and not sure it is worth it - Please post if you have any experience with the charger damper or considered it as well).

SRAM is so weird about this — the names have always been confusing but particularly so now, where they’re called “Charger 2” (basic but decent IFP damper, known for not being very supportive) and “Charger 2.1,” their bladder damper which offers much more support while being even more plush than the IFP for the usual reasons.

If your fork can take a bladder damper upgrade, they are 100% always better than IFPs. Usually by a lot.

Re: New Enduro Frame FS830
I'm blown away by how well it rides. slightly naughty paint job.
It climbs as well as my sonder transmitter hardtail and descends a whole lot faster.
I've bashed it through Scotland and down some big drop offs without any concens. Its not has a few stone chips and not looking quite so pretty.

Chainring was slightly awkward as I had to run zero offset to get everything inline, good excuse to buy a nice oval cnc one.

I'm still waiting for a new one up dropper post but everyone seems out of stock. Also if anyone can recommend any good carbon wheels  (30 -35mm internal width)

Still happy with your 830? A new group buy thread has sprung up for it and with all the complications of the AM831 situation, it’s a tempting alternative to a four-bar like the FM1002.

I prefer 2.6 or at least wide 2.5 clearance, but otherwise on paper this seems like one of the best options out there.
