Sales & Classifieds / LTWOO eRX Group with box and batteries - $700CAD
« on: December 28, 2023, 07:12:50 PM »
Hey all,

It's been a minute since I've been on the forums.

If anyone is interested,  I'm selling some LTWOO eRX groups on my site this week for $700CAD (~$530USD)
Free shipping within Canada, but you gotta pay your GST/HST.

As far as I can tell, this is a fair bit cheaper than any vendor on AliX with a fraction of the shipping time, and without the potential communication issues or the hassle of having to source batteries (you are on your own for mineral oil though)

I'm just shooting it out here, as if there is any crowd that understands the pros and cons of this set, it'd be this crowd.
I'm torn in this group as the issues exposed do not align with my user experience. I am using the group myself and love it,  but I've only used it for a couple hundred kms. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt.

They are all new and come with manufacter warranty.

DM if interested,  or just go to https://1sigma.cc/products/copy-of-elitewheels-marvel-road?_pos=1&_sid=280809a86&_ss=r

Cheers
Alan

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Tubeless Wheel Plugs.
« on: October 02, 2022, 02:00:27 PM »
Anyone use these? Silicone plugs instead of rim tape
Are they any good?

https://a.aliexpress.com/_mssGPni

I'm pretty adept at taping rims, but world rather not if I don't have to.
Apparently good up to 400PSI and reusable

I’ve been using one of cheap carbon mounts for awhile, but I gotta change it.
It doesn’t dampen vibration, or simply transfer it.  Rather it seems to amplify it.
This season I’ve broken three mounts, and lost a bike computer because of it.

Almost lost my brand new Karoo 2 today, if not for the tether.

For those running integrated aero handlebars, what are you using?
Are there any good carbon ones, or should I just get an alloy one?

So this is my fork, at the bottom. Where the steerer is joined to the rest of the fork.
Visually it’s always bothered me, but it hasn’t caused any problems, or shown symptoms of weakness (like creaking or flexing).

I personally think it’s fine, but a sloppy job.  Interested to hear what you all think - if it is a cause for concern, or if this is perfectly normal.

After The Ride / Chinertown Strava Group

Looks like someone started this some years ago.

Putting the link here.  Maybe we can get this re-booted

Question for the mechanics:

This only applies to mechanical groups.
I enjoy the look of full internal routing, but removing the fork or handlebars for inspection/maintenance/travelling is a pain.

In theory, could one connect in-line barrel adjusters around the head tube as disconnection points for cable housing?  Sure, you’d still need to pull out the cables, but if you could make it all fit, you could leave the housing intact.

Am I being stupid or crazy here?

After The Ride / Classified Powershift Wheels

Putting this is this forum, as it’s not a Chiner thing
Just giddy with excitement and wanted to share.

I’ll be getting a set of these wheels to test out:
https://v1.classified-cycling.cc/en/wheels

It’s sort of answering a prayer for a 1X person like myself, and can’t wait to try them out!

Do any of you have go-to vendors for cheap and/or consumable parts of AliExpress?

If so, who and why?

After The Ride / Road Tubeless Sealant Question
« on: May 01, 2022, 04:14:01 PM »
What size tires do you run, how much sealant do you use and why did you choose that amount?

I run 700x28, and use 40mL. Seems like the default low-end, if you want some level of puncture protection.
Wanted to try less, but seems like a regret waiting to happen

***EDIT: Noooo! IG Reels cuts off the end that actually shows the weight difference!  I updated the link.
Before ready-to-ride weight (incl. bottle cages, pedals, and computer mount) = 7.71kg
After ready-to-ride weight = 7.29kg
“Showroom” weight = 7.02kg***

Hey all,
Just wanted to share my spring upgrade with you all.
Changed:
Cassette - weight savings
Chain  - weight savings
Wheels  - weight savings
Tires - weight neutral
Jockey Wheel  - weight savings, but honestly cosmetic
Seat hardware  - weight savings, barely
Bottle cages  - weight gain
Handlebar tape  - weight gain

Made a video of the process:

Hey All!

So, a little while ago I took delivery of 5 sets of Elite DRIVE Wheelsets. I've been delaying posting here, because they forgot to send valves and warranty cards.  Well, they've arrived, so I am posting them.

They had a secret menu option of 45mm, so that is what I got. It's kind of a sweet spot rim depth for all purpose use.

I have 3 sets left, and if anyone is interested  i am selling them for:
$1,240 CAD
$985 USD (at current rates)
Shipping is extra, but you'll definitely dodge any taxes and customs if you are Canadian.  Most likely dodge them in thr US. It probably won't make sense for any of you living outside of US and Canada once you factor in shipping.

In the box, you get:
-The wheels (obviously...)
-2 rolls of rim tape
-Tubeless valves
-Cycling socks
-Tire levers

Not included: spare spokes.  They announced they will start including spare spokes in May.  So, unfortunately these boxes were left out.

Here is more info on the wheels (keeping in mind they are 45mm, and about 20g heavier)

Component Deals & Selection / Christmas in March!
« on: March 18, 2022, 09:17:38 AM »
I just bought a bunch of parts and junk from a mainland distributor.  A bunch are just consumables for me or for a build for a friend, while others are for resale locally (like on FB markets or something)

Check it out!

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / SUNRIMOON Helmets
« on: March 09, 2022, 07:14:55 AM »
So, I think I'll try a Chinese brand helmet.
Looking at the SUNRIMOON helmets.

Looking for opinions.

Trying to choose between their
TS-98 Model - lightweight, more ventilation
https://www.sunrimoonhelmet.com/collections/adult-bike-helmets/products/sunrimoon-adult-bicycle-helmet-road-bike-helmet-for-man-and-woman-cycling-helmets-helmet-for-adult-ts-98-angel-isaac-2021new

TS-42 Model - more aerodynamic, less ventilation but looks better IMO
https://www.sunrimoonhelmet.com/collections/adult-bike-helmets/products/sunrimoon-adult-bicycle-helmet-road-bike-helmet-for-man-and-woman-cycling-helmets-helmet-for-adult-ts-42-saint-michael2021new

Some context: my current helmet is a CCM-branded helmet.  This is akin to something from Walmart, and probably lower quality than something from Decathlon.  I already assume it is a low-quality Chinese helmet. Pretty much anything would be an upgrade for me.

Not concerned about safety.  I know some folks get pretty protective about helmet choices (see what I did there...), but it is basically just a piece of injection molded foam shrink wrapped in a thin shell of plastic.  Sunrimoon/Cigna's core business are helmets, so I assume they'll pass muster.

I'd be forgoing MIPS and premium retention systems provided by top-shelf helmets, but as I said - anything is an upgrade for me.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / IIIPRO Hydro/Mech Calipers
« on: March 03, 2022, 01:03:09 PM »
So, we all know Yokuzuna and Juin Tech are the same caliper, just re-branded.
What about the IIIPRO?
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003502235198.html?spm=a2g0o.search0307.0.0.61e52c29rDjck8&algo_pvid=d1dd6d93-e294-4acd-96a0-477dc84cec36&algo_exp_id=d1dd6d93-e294-4acd-96a0-477dc84cec36-14

Is it the same manufactured caliper as the Juin Tech F1 and re-branded, or is it just similar?

After much humming and hawing, I decided to pulled the trigger on their 2022 Elite DRIVE Wheelset.

You can find it on their AliExpress storefront, but oddly it is not yet advertised on their official B2C website.
Even on the AliExpress site, its a bit buried: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003763694064.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_home.0.0.267ed0edTPNtBU
The glossy marble-like design won't be for everyone, but I dig it.

I got 5 sets, which got me some discount but not a ton - since the shipment is small, I can't have them sent by freight.  They are being sent by EMS, in which case I do have a fighting chance at of at least being spared taxes and duties
And, on the plus side, I will receive them faster - probably just before the Spring riding season begins (here in Toronto, good riding doesn't really start until at least all the salt and gravel from winter is swept away...)

Once I get my hands on them, I'll let you all know how they fare!
